dion: an event celebrating month was met with protests today in the north bay. it happened outside petaluma library, where demonstrations -- demonstrators pushed back against the drag story hour event. good evening. thanks for joining us. i'm dion lim. those protesting say the event is not appropriate for children. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard tells us they were met with some opposition. >> hey hey, ho ho. cornell: this large protest was happening outside the petaluma library on saturday where drag story hour with drag king vera was happening inside. >> drag queens are awesome, larger-than-life. they are fun. raters disagree. they believe drag performers should not be reading to kids. >> what i'm against is explicit sexuality, i do not care if it

is gay or straight. being put upon young innocent children. >> i just feel like we are losing our moral values in the country. this is not right to do this to children. cornell: folks supporting the event were also here and quickly seems to outnumber anti-drag protesters. >> my feeling is, if you feel like there is something not right about bringing your children to a drag story hour, don't bring your children. cornell: chelsea says with hundreds of anti-queer and drag laws across the country, events like this need community support. >> the people opposing at are sending a message that they think it is unsafe or somehow adult or sexualizing simply to be here and trance in public, and that is not the case. cornell: library director said they were prepared but just to be safe, they notified petaluma police to help keep the protests

peaceful. >> libraries are expressing these kinds of issues and challenges, and it has only been ramping up last year. >> i'm scared. >> we will never be divided. cornell: drag king vera declined to speak to us about the event, which was closed to the media. in petaluma, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. dion: these demonstrations began a year ago, when five men disrupted drag queen story hour at the sanna marin so library. -- san lorenzo library. they were described as members of the far-right groups the proud boys p our partners that "the standard" report no charges were filed by the da's office because it did not meet "hate crime criteria." in response to the protest, the library kicked off every month is pride month series, and the

cal fire says that fire is 45% contained and started at about 5:30 yesterday and has burned 103 acres. at least 14 engines and a helicopter are now fighting the planes. no word yet a what caused that blaze. to the east bay, where contra costa fire protection helped residents there prepare for wildfire season p special fire town hall taught about planning for evacuations and what to do after a fire. they also had special answers on preventative efforts, spotlighting the importance of keeping your grass and weeds cut. >> the reason i say it is important, is because even if you are able to the home, you leave a lot of potential for that fire to spread and travel quickly because of that type of fuel. you do not want to negate what you have done by not being able to complete all of it. you have to kind of consider that. dion: california has more than 7400 reported wildfires in 2022

alone or the 10 largest in the state all happened in the last 20 years. new developments, a man faces charges, accused of starting last year's oak fire near yosemite in mariposa county grade yesterday, investigators arrested 71-year-old edward wacker men, who lives in the area of the fire, of several felony charges. the wildfire consumed nearly 20,000 acres and destroyed 127 homes along with 60 other structures. smoke from that wildfire prompted air quality advisories for the bay area last july. a driver is wanted in oakland for a hit and run crash that killed a woman. it happened after 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of vicksburg avenue. that woman was crossing the street in a crosswalk and she was hit by a black mercedes. police say the car that hit her was involved in an illegal street race. a high water rescue took a terrifying turn in florida. the shocking moment was caught

caught on camera. a florida sheriff's deputy jumped into action to save a man who nearly drowned in fast-moving floodwaters. this video may be upsetting to watch. this is from the deputy's body camera during the downpour early friday morning. he saw a driver who was trapped in the raging water, and when he rushed to his aid, both were nearly swept away. the video goes black when they were swept into a drainage pipe. >> they were submerged for nearly 30 seconds and traveled 100 feet underwater. they eventually resurfaced on the other end of the roadway, lucky to be alive. dion: the good news, the deputy and the driver did not face major injuries. both are said to be doing ok. new details now, a collapsed structure of interstate 95 in philadelphia will reopen within two weeks. that is the word from pennsylvania's governor. that came shortly after president biden took a helicopter tour over the damaged part of the highway today. mr. biden pledged federal funds

green light for a massive expansion said to be the largest residential project ever in mountain view. city council members approve a redevelopment plan for the north bayshore neighborhood shown on this map. google wants to build an urban village with 7000 new homes, office space, and more than 26 acres of parks. 15% of the units will be set aside for lower and middle income housing. that project is expected to take 30 years. no word yet on when construction will start. over in the east bay, oakland held its 14th annual family am juneteenth celebration -- pham bam juneteenth celebration. thousands turned out. it featured things like dance performances, a skating rink, and as you can see, live music. it was also a day to promote unity and private one vendor says she is excited the celebration gives people an appreciation of history. >> to be able to celebrate it as a stork and something that

the satellite radar image. there's a storm to the north that is increasing the onshore flow, so we are getting a lot of clouds moving in, and we are going to get some blustery conditions, starting this evening. in fact, winds right now, 31 miles per hour in san francisco, gusting to 26 at sfo, even 28 miles an hour in fairfield. they are just going to get stronger you see those great skies -- gray skies, the marine layer with this live shot from emeryville. temperatures will cool down even more the next couple of days. in san francisco, currently 63. oakland 64 peter san jose as comfortable as 73. half moon bay only 59 degrees. here a live look from exploratorium showing you more of those low clouds moving it. santa rosa, novato, napa in the 70's right now. fairfield, 76. concord, one of our warmest spots, 81, but tomorrow, we will not see any 80's. we will be dropping to the 70's for our inland areas. livermore currently 78 degrees.
