ahead. plenty of sunshine by this afternoon. temperatures in the 50's and 60's out the door. we have strong onshore flow that will bring our temps down and make it sunny for us. you will feel the winds in the afternoon. for now, not bad. most of us seeing calm conditions. san francisco, the winds in the teens and even breezier in fairfield with gusts over 20 miles an hour. expect to see that pickup over the day. we will see gusts upwards of 30 miles an hour. a little bit of a breeze monday and cool temperatures the next few days. we will break down when and where you are seeing the winds, plus your seven-day forecast. all of that coming up later in the show. liz: thank you. drivers miraculously survived a fiery car crash that involved a gas tanker in rodeo just after midnight. the tanker was damaged spilling

diesel fuel towards the two burning cars. fire officials say person was pulled free from one car and they quickly put out the flames. >> it is amazing people escaped both crashes relatively unharmed. we had one moderate injury being transported currently. there were no fatalities at this time. liz: it happened on the westbound 80 freeway causing lane closures for over two hours. the gas tanker spilled across the right lanes of the freeway. they were able to mitigate the leak and reopen traffic. alexis' famil giving the public one last chance to say goodbye. the family had been waiting until all of her remains were located. ryan curry spoke with her family who said the service was not only about reflecting but moving forward. reporter: months of sorrow and grief is now met with closure.

the family of alexis ga prepared to lay her to rest as they held a celebration of life a. >> i'm just glad we can also bring her home. reporter: she was last seen leaving her boyfriend's house in late 2022. police believe her boyfriend killed her. police killed him as they were serving an arrest warrant in june of last year. the tip in november led investigators to her remains outside sacramento. with her remains back in the family possession, they are choosing to remember their favorite moments together. >> she is gone with a bubbly personality. she is very funny. she is the jokester of the family. she likes to make fun of everyone, especially her mom.

reporter: dozens showed up to the funeral home. the memorial was open to the public. they say community support has helped them through the most difficult time in their life. >> they have been a support people can lean on. some people have gone through similar things, a lot family members, children. having people who get it i think has been very helpful. reporter: the family says focus turns to finding justice for alexis. they want charges filed against jones' mother for allegedly helping up her murder. >> we are not done. we are going to try to get that justice for her. reporter: monday, there will be a funeral procession starting at this memorial home and ending at the castro valley crematorium. the family says anyone can join the procession. they say only the family will be allowed inside the crematorium. they say they want alexis all to themselves on her final day. liz: in the north, a

napa county is 65% contained this morning. cal fire says they are busy shoring up containment lines and putting out hotspots. the fire started friday n and have burned 103 acres. no buildings damaged or destroyed. the cause is under investigation. the special fire town hall about planning for evacuations and what to do after fire. there was special emphasis on preventative efforts. >> it has been departments can do everything in their means but the reality is we cannot be successful if we do not have partnership with the individual citizens. the individual citizens in all communities respectfully doing

their part. liz: they say residents can help stop the spread of wildfires by keeping grass and weeds cut. a man faces charges accused of starting last year's oak fire. friday, investigators arrested the 71-year-old on several felony charges. he lives in the area of the fire. the wildfire destroyed 127 homes along with more than 60 other structures. smoke prompted air quality advisories for the bay area left to lie -- last july. in the bay area, pride month events were met with protests where protesters pushed back against the drag story events for children which they believe is inappropriate. reporter: this large protest was happening outside the petaluma library where drag story hour

was happening in side. she brought her child. >> kids love them, they are larger-than-life. they are fun. reporter: this group of demonstrators disagree. they believe drag performers should not be reading to kids. >> i am against exclusive sexuality, gay or straight, being put upon young, innocent children. >> i feel like we are losing moral ground in our country. this is not right to do this to children. >> ♪ i'm going to let it shine ♪ reporter: folks supporting the event were also here and seemed to quickly outnumber drag protesters. >> if you feel there is something not right about bringing children to a drag story hour, don't bring your children. reporter: of laws being passed across the

country, events like this need community support. >> people opposing this are sending a message they think it is unsafe or somehow i don't or sexualizing simply to be queer or trans in public and that is not the case. reporter: library director's say they were prepared for the protest and notified petaluma police to help keep the protest full. >> libraries across the country are experiencing these kinds of challenges. it has been ramping up in the last year. >> i am scared of school shootings. reporter: drag king vera declined to speak to us about the story hour event that was closed to the media. they say they plan to protest at future events. liz: demonstrations began a year ago when five men disrupted drag

story hour. men were described as the proud boys. our partnership report no charges were filed because it did not meet hate crime criteria. in response to protests, the library kicked off the "every month is pride month" series and developed a safety marshal program. san francisco's beacon of hope in honor of pride month is shining bright on twin peaks. 450 bright pink tarps to form the shape of the triangle. it was once used to brand people suspected of being gay in nazi concentration camps. now it is a symbol of protest against homophobia. >> take a symbol of hope and turn it into something that means more, that means something celebratory in nature. liz: the triangle installation

included a special dedication ceremony featuring the san francisco lesbian gay freedom band and the country's first ever drag lori yet. this is the first year since 2010 the city has had a brand-new triangle. >> we are the only city with a giant pink triangle for pride festivities, uniquely san francisco. liz: there are 2700 pink lights on the pink triangle. it wil up the rest of pride montil saturday, july 1. the parade is one week away. you can watch the parade live june 25 let's hope things warm up a little by next weekend. shayla: we are moving in the right direction. the warming is slowly happening. plenty of sunshine in stores

liz: google has gotten the green light from massive expansion in mountain view. city council members approved the redevelopment plan for the north shore neighborhood shown on the map.

google wants to build an urban village with more than 26 of parks. 15% of units will be set aside for lower and middle income housing. the project is expected to take 30 years. no word yet on when construction will start. juneteenth celebrations are in full swing this weekend. tara campbell was among the thousands as they took to the streets. reporter: the moves, the music, the food, and the freedom, the freedom festival in san francisco's fillmore district. thousand showing up to usher in juneteenth. >> i live in the east bay now. it means a lot. reporter: the fillmore district is steeped in african american culture, in the 1940's earning the nickname "harlem of the west." he wants his grandson to know it all. >> i would like for him to know his history as he grows because

the past is very important for the present. >> it means a lot to me because i am born and raised here. this is how i know it. reporter: valerie davidson is one of the dozens of vendors spanning eight blocks of fillmore street. >> we are here together, holding hands, talking. reporter: among them, mayor london breed, who was raised in the neighborhood. >> we are bringing juneteenth and black people back to san francisco! [applause] >> it is a way to uplift our community and remember the challenges that still exist but to also celebrate and elevate one another. reporter: across the bay, thousands showed up in oakland for the juneteenth celebration now in its 14th year. >> to celebrate and acknowledge what we have been through is historic and should not been forgotten. reporter: they say it is as

important as ever for the community to unite. >> i know across the nation, there is a lot of turmoil on what should be included in textbooks and businesses. preserving history is important so we know where we have come from and where we are going and we understand our purpose learning from the past. reporter: tara campbell, abc 7 news. liz: people also marked juneteenth in san jose yesterday during the 47th annual festival that celebrates the arts, culture, and heritage of santa clara county's black community and culture. organizers say after the community reemerges after a year of struggle celebrating resilience together is especially meaningful. today is a free park date and celebration of juneteenth. while juneteenth is officially tomorrow, the event is today to serve all visitors. all fees are waived on park entrances, docs, boat launching,

and fishing. today at 10:00, they will be a hike led by a nationalist at coyote hills regional park. you can catch nietzsche hikes tomorrow morning in concord and oak lake. you are saying you have to hold onto your hat it will be so windy. shayla: yes, it will be sunny today but it will also be really windy. expect to see gusty by this afternoon. here is a nice treat, starting off this morning with blue skies, already seeing sunshine. the marine layer is starting to clear because of breezy conditions. the onshore flow moving in overnight. blustery" this father's day, especially this afternoon, some of that will stick around until tomorrow. the warm-up it will be cooler the next few days. a slight warm-up for the first day of summer.

visibility looking good this morning thanks to the onshore flow. some areas seeing limited visibility. half moon bay have to three miles. six miles in santa rosa. overall, not bad. we will see the clouds move out quicker today because of the winds. san francisco already seeing gusts over 30 miles per hour. inland seeing the winds in the midteens. this will increase this afternoon. we start to see the winds pick up early afternoon. gusts getting upwards miles per hour. some seeing gusts over 30 miles per hour late afternoon into the evening. if you will be outdoors this father's day, be prepared for plenty of sunshine but really windy. the winds died down overnight picking up again as we roll into monday, especially along the coast where we see the breezy us conditions. we will continue to see quite a breeze monday into tuesday with

the windiest being today into tonight. with the wind comes plenty of sunshine and cooler temperatures. not quite seeing what we saw yesterday. no one making it to the 80's today. we have the onshore flow and sunshine. half moon bay making it to the upper 50's. temps below average today and will stay this way the next few days. downtown sunset district in the mid-60's. napa ice are at 75 with plenty of sun -- napa nicer at 75 with plenty of sun. brookwood just shy no one has 80's today. it will be cooler 40's and 50's this evening. not quite the marine layer we have been seeing the last few days. because of the wins, we will not see quite as much.

liz: california highway patrol officers are patrolling the tenderloin neighborhood trying to stop the flow of fentanyl. we joined chp is the first tv

crew to get a look at the crackdown. the highway patrol and national guard began the operation to crack down on thin use and trafficking in san francisco -- crackdown on fentanyl use and trafficking in san francisco. we went out afternoon. at the intersection, officers have pulled over a man suspected of drunk driving. they arrest him and then p down the passengers in the car, check the vehicle, and let the men go. this stop is part of the chp's enhanced presence in the tenderloin. since the start of the year, accidental overdose deaths have been going up. almost every week, there is more than the week before. the majority are caused by fentanyl. roughly one third happened in the tenderloin south of market. that is why governor newsom has deployed chp to the tenderloin. they now have six to 10 officers

patrolling daily. is it working? >> it has been six weeks since the crackdown. what have we seen? >> pretty much what we came to do. we are stopping vehicles with hundreds of thousands of potentially lethal doses. liz: according to the governor's office, since the start of the operation on may 1, chp has seized over 1.3 kilos to kill over one million people, almost three times the population of san francisco. they have also seized methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin. the agency has also made 92 felony and misdemeanor arrests including on charges related to possession of fentanyl, illegal firearm possession, driving under the influence, and domestic violence. >> our focus is on traffic. we know as with anything that comes to san francisco, it has to get here somehow.

if we have fentanyl coming into the city, it has to be delivered somehow. very often, that is in vehicles. liz: a behind-the-scenes operation made up of roughly 30 different agencies is also underway. >> i think we finally reached the tipping point in the city with a number of deaths exceeding what anyone can stand anymore. liz: the executive director the federal task force now has 20 national guard analysts working with them to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the bay area. >> being able to understand the networks in such a way that we can get the information back to law forstmann and they can make arrests. liz: the challenge is there is so much fentanyl. >> even if the dealers lose pounds, which is a lot of money, it is like nothing to them. liz:

dealers in the tenderloin are mostly from honduras. most of it is manufactured and brought in from mexico. people buying are from california and even out-of-state. >> the people being people from outside the area. we have to work with those communities as well. liz: back on the streets, we asked the recovery advocate he has noticed an impact. >> there are some blocks in the tenderloin better better -- that are better. the chp is doing traffic stops in the neighborhood. i have also seen drug markets shift. liz: overall, what rating would you give so far -- grade would you give so far? >> incomplete because there has not been enough time. liz: the agencies working on

this acknowledge six weeks is just the beginning. they say their efforts are far from over. >> i will tell you we will be here as long as it takes. that is my commitment. liz: what is your message to drug dealers in the tenderloin? >> you might not see uniformed national guard soldiers on your streets but know that we are behind the scenes. we will figure out who you are, who your bosses are, who launders your money and who gives you drugs to sell in the city. we will come after you and will get you. liz: critics of the operation say they are concerned this could lead to another war on drugs that disproportionately impacts people of color. but supporters like the mayor, district attorney, and the folks in our story say we have reached a tipping point in san francisco that hundreds are dying on the street every year and something needs to change. you can find that story on our website, abc7news.com. still to come, president biden

inland even breezier conditions. also in the upper teens, that will pick up in the afternoon. for father's day, expect plenty of sun and wind. any marine layer is going to clear by this afternoon. then we are talking about breezy conditions. i will break down where and when we will see the wind and look at the seven-day. liz: thank you. president biden's reelection campaign is underway. he traveled to the critical battleground state of pennsylvania yesterday for his first reelection event. chuck seaver steen has more on what the president did during his trip. reporter: president biden kicking off his 2024 campaigned in pennsylvania accepting the endorsement of the powerful afl-cio which represents 60 units and more than 12 million

workers. it is the labor group's earliest ever presidential endorsement. >> i am more honored by your endorsement than you can imagine. coming this early will make a gigantic difference in the campaign. reporter: before the event, president viewed the devastation of the i-95 over collapse. a temporary fix coming much quicker than expected. >> we will have i-95 reopened in the next two weeks. reporter: polls show warning signs for the president's reelection bid finding his favorability is just 31%, down 15 points from the summer before the 2020 election. members of his campaign say he will not hold regular rallies until later in the campaign season. defendant biden goes to california for a series of fundraisers with others scheduled in chicago and maryland before the end of the month.

liz: florida governor ron desantis hit the campaign trail yesterday. he continued his war on woke and said the u.s. is off the rails. >> leftist government is destroying cities all over our country. it is destroying other states. i think what we will see in this election coming up is america has got to make a decision because we need to restore sanity in this country. liz: he made no mention of fellow republican candidate former president trump. desantis is scheduled to visit san francisco tomorrow for a fundraiser. days dond trump was indicted on 37 counts, this morning at the fallout, the gop reaction, and the impact on the 2024 race, plus the republiccing off against tr

there will be one candidate facing many of those questions. asa hutchinson will be joining. you can watch that at 8:00 on abc 7. u.s. secretary of state antony blinken has arrived in china. it is the start of two days of high-stakes talks in beijing in an attempt to ease tensions between the u.s. and china. his first meeting was with the chinese foreign minister. he is set to follow up with him tomorrow and meet with one of china's top diplomats and possibly present xi jinping. he is the first secretary of state to travel to china in five years. his main goal is to reestablish normal channels of communication. he will primarily focus on military to military communication. in the south bay water restrictions are back in santa clara county despite drought conditions ending earlier this year. they say water conservation must be a way of life for the community or they will face fines. dustin dorsey explains new rules in effect.

reporter: things may not be as dry right now in the bay area, but that has not stopped valley water from looking ahead. during the drought, santa clara residents saved more than 10 million gallons and converted more than 3 million square feet of lawn into water efficient landscaping. valley water is calling on the community to make conservation a permanent way of life. >> our community is always under the threat of drought paired with climate change, the droughts will become more severe. we need to make sure we keep up the good habits of water conservation developed during the drought and continue those. report upon this week, the board of directors instituted new rules venting water waste in community. effective immediately, residents can no longer use sprinkles between 9:00 and 6:00 or water within 48 hours of measurable rainfall, use potable water to wash cars or homes without a shut-off nozzle, or wash

sidewalks or driveways for reasons other than health and safety. >> this is a set of comprehensive, feasible restrictions that will make sure water is not wasted in our county because we have a limited water supply. reporter: if you do not comply with immediate restrictions, you will receive a warning from valley water. if you continue to neglect conservation, that could result in a fine from your water company. residents we spoke with our split on the decision. >> i think it is a good decision for the most part. we keep coming into drought. every 10 or 15 years, we get more rainfall. >> the restrictions never end. with all the rainfall last winter, i would have thought we would be out of the drought and maybe have a lot more water to play with. reporter: valley water says reservoirs are in better shape but restrictions can keep the water supply full in the case of future droughts.

liz: we have heard this before but it appears we are in the midst of a sriracha chip shortage -- sean tucker shortage -- shuruaat chuck shortage. restaurants, some people have resorted to stealing bottles from the san francisco restaurant. in oakland, a bottle of the sauce was going for $30. the demo tape that kicked off the career of music legend prince is about to go up for auction. it has long been hidden in the attic of the music executive that signed him in 1977. fans will have a chance to own the tape that landed him his first contract and eventual stardom. it is still in the original custom packaging and features unreleased music. it is part of the modern auction that runs until thursday. still to come,

reporter this bling ring on amazon. >> i thought that would be a really fun thing, so i ordered it. reporter: it was a small ring studded with sparkling rhinestones that fits around the car's ignition. >> it is cute. you stick it on your car. just fun. reporter: she stuck it on, went to bed, and the next morning set out in her car --or tried to. >> ridiculous and so irresponsible. reporter: her car would not start, so she recharged the battery. nothing happened. >> i called my neighbor. he could not get it started. reporter: she had the car towed to a metallic -- mechanic. >> he could not figure it out. reporter: she had the car towed all the way to a dealer in you kia. no one could find the problem. >> they tried all their

troubleshooting and nothing worked. reporter: in passing, she mentioned the bling ring on the transmission. quick piece that we have seen that before. reporter: he simply peeled it off and the car started right up. >> i was blown away. it was ridiculous. reporter: what is going on? >> if that signal gets blocked -- reporter: the locksmith in arizona sees this happen often and wrote articles about why a little sticker can disable a big car. >> if the bling ring is around the ignition, the signal cannot get past the ring so the car will not start. >> he says it is because of the antitheft system in most of today's cars. here is how it works. your car sends a signal to the antitheft system. if it is the correct key, it starts and you drive off. however, the bling ring has a metal backing. if you put the sticker over the ignition, it blocks the signal so the antitheft system thinks

someone is stealing a car and shuts down the engine. could this little piece of bling disable a car? let's test it out. first, i start our car without the bling ring. it starts fine, no problem at all. let's apply this. now, i stick the bling right over the ignition. looks good. now, the big test. it then it dies. the car ignition starts to turn but then shuts down, again and again. >> somebody will say it is just a sticker, a decorative thing. it is not a good thing to put on your car because the vehicle will not start. >> who would think that? reporter: she wishes she had known about this before spending hundreds of dollars on mechanics. >> i was without a car for 12 days. my car was towed twice. reporter: amazon does have a
