>> it is our top story tonight -- the speeding shoot out along the san francisco waterfront. >> only on 7, new video >> bullets flying as they sped down the embarcadero. four people were hurt by the time it was over. one person was arrested, but police say the people inside that white car are still out there. >> tonight, i obtained a brand-new surveillance video from across the street from pier 39 being used by police to find the suspects. a vehicle shows the -- a video shows the vehicles involved. a passenger in the backseat of the sedan suddenly climbs

halfway out the window and shoots at the suv. it appears the driver also sticks out an arm to open fire. the video also shows multiple civilians diving and ducking for cover. >> this francisco police say the speeding shoot out started and ended. j.r. stone has been pushing leaders for answers on this case. he is with us tonight with the latest on that part of the story. >> i did reach out to the mayor's office for a response after the shooting. nothing. i also reached out to the police department for an update tonight. nothing. it is a holiday. one person who was vocal today, former mayor willie brown. it is this image, seemingly being chased by a white sedan sunday night in san francisco that is etched in the mind of many in the well-known

tourist area who ran for cover. the video shows what police say was a roving gunbattle. witnesses say the incident started near the pier 39 parking lot and ended a mile and a half down the embarcadero at howard street where two of the gunshot victims were found. >> it is another black eye for the city, but it is not unusual for incidents of a similar nature to occur in any major american city. >> former san francisco mayor willie brown is not shying away from the cameras. the 89-year-old is advocating for the city, saying this is not just a san francisco problem. >> one somebody says to me, how do you stop that? if the guns were not in the hands of the people, it would not happen. >> this video posted online also shows the moments where a 10 and 16-year-old girls who were walking their bicycles were clipped and knocked down by the

racing vehicles. san francisco's supervisor compared the scene along the embarcadero sunday night. >> we start hearing pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, and it did not stop. >> to an old west shooting, saying more officers are needed in san francisco. >> we are severely by independent analysis. this is not something in my mind that is debatable. >> brown believes sunday's shooting is further proof in the need for another nationwide assault weapons band. >> they do it by having legislators, both at the state level and at the national level, do what dianne feinstein did in washington and what mark bruce did in sacramento signed by the governor at that time, and it was signed by clinton at the time.

as it could have been, a grand theft auto-style shootout rolling down the embarcadero between fisherman's wharf and the ferry, two of the most iconic slices of real estate you will ever see, could have been worse. >> bill went on to say, bottom line, san francisco needs something that will stop this narrative, and right now, he doesn't think city leaders have any viable solutions. >> that gets us to our deep dive at 11:00 where we are able to focus in on an issue we feel is worthy of a little extra attention, and tonight, it is larger, worsening problem of gun violence not just gripping the bay area, but the entire state and the country. there were 10 shootings yesterday alone, including not just the one in san francisco that we have been talking about, but another in oakland. this is according to the gun violence archive that monitors real-time data from across the u.s. the data shows just on sunday, there were 140 three separate shootings in america with seven

being mass shootings. those are defined as minimum for people shot, either injured or killed, outside of the shooter. for the most part, they are only an american numb and on. among those shootings yesterday, a juneteenth celebration in willowbrook, illinois, turned deadly. police are trying to figure out how many suspects are responsible for the shooting. >> it is kind of becoming something where it is like inescapable. >> in washington state, at least two were killed and three others injured including the alleged gunman at a music festival. a 17-year-old was killed and nine other teenagers injured in st. louis, missouri, when a gun man open fire in a party. in detroit, four teenagers were shot on sunday evening. for more, we are giving you the power to look through crime rates where you live thanks to our abc 7 news neighborhood safety tracker. this interactive tool is on the front page of your website.

there's data for san francisco, oakland, and san jose. we are working now to add other cities. >> let's turn things over forecast. the past couple of days have been windy. >> sure has, and a little bit cooler. that could be easing up. spencer christian is here with our forecast. >> it is still quite windy across much of the area. here is a look at surface wind speeds. we had gust up to 40 miles an hour earlier in the evening. other locations wind ease up a little bit. it is also a few degrees cooler in most locations then what we saw last night. as we go into the overnight hours, notice clear skies. notice the absence of clouds. temperatures will drop into a cooler range than we have seen of late overnight and we will start the day tomorrow with sunny skies once again. here is a look at our day planner. tomorrow morning, sunny skies.

as a matter of fact, it will be sunny all day. by noon, we will see mid to upper 60's from the bayshore to the inland areas. 4:00, only mid 70's and lynn. pleasant, but way below average. appear -- upper 60's around the bay area. the final day of spring, it will be getting cool once again. i will give you a look at what summer will do starting on wednesday a little later. >> what happened to spring anyway? >> a day one is officially in the books for president biden's visit to the bay area. quite the president still has another day of campaigning scheduled for the bay area. he will discuss how to handle the future of artificial intelligence, and then it is a pair of campaign fundraising events in marin county and san francisco. >> lauren martinez walks us through the highlights of president biden's first day here in town. >> president joe biden ended his

first at three days in the bay area in san francisco. cellphone video shows his motorcade pulling up outside the fairmont hotel. his day started in the south bay when air force one touched down at moffett field this afternoon. his first stop -- the lucy evans nature preserve. quick the impacts we are seeing a climate change will only get more frequent and ferocious and costly. >> the president million in investments in new climate projects. he also said the department of energy is going to announce that it is investing more than $2 billion to modernize the nation's power grid. >> that money can help ensure our electric grid is stronger, the lights and air conditioning stay on during heat waves and storms and other climate events. >> president biden went on to attend two reelection fundraising campaign events with silicon valley's elite. we cut his motorcade leaving an event hosted by microsoft chief technology officer kevin sky.

contact. >> a small submersible carrying five people was on a tourist expedition to see the wreckage of the titanic when suddenly, it disappeared. the submersible had been underwater less than two hours when it lost contact with its launching ship, about 900 miles east of cape cod, massachusetts. >> there could have been an accident. they could have become entangled in the wreckage of the titanic. it could indeed have had a catastrophic failure. the answer is we don't know just yet. >> the submersible is operated by a washington-based company called oceangate. the ceo is one of those on board and also a graduate of uc berkeley. in a statement, the company says, "our entire focus is on the well-being of the crew, and every step possible is being taken to bring the five crew members back safely." oceangate assess the submersible only has enough oxygen to last 70 to 72 hours. experts say recovering the ship

davis student -- his accused killer was a former uc davis student. >> happening tomorrow, it is world refugee day, and more than 40 major companies are making a vow to hire more than 13,000 refugees in europe over the next years. amazon, hilton, starbucks, and marriott are just some of the companies participating. it is part of a pledge the united nations reports 2022 saw the largest movement of refugees since world war ii. >> we work hard in this country, a lot of hours, but new evidence shows people are finally beginning to cut back on those extra hours. more people trying to create a better work/life balance. they are now saying no to overtime or even working 40 hours a week. data shows the average number of hours worked drop to 33.3 last month, below the pandemic

average, and now that summer vacation is underway, some businesses are turning to teenagers to fill those open roles. >> teenagers are relatively low-paying compared to other workers in the labor force and that will be an advantage for employers. >> teens and states including california, nevada, and arizona will see some of the highest paychecks thanks to higher minimum wages. the first of its kind orchestral concert is happening this week in san francisco featuring nearly 80 musicians. each is a member of the lgbtq+ community from different parts of the country and the world. ♪ >> those sounds the international pride orchestra. they are participating for their first performance happening this thursday at the san francisco conservatory of music. the orchestra wants to raise awareness and funds for the queer community through music. some participants travel from as far as new zealand and peru to

everywhere right now. here's the view from the bouncy mount tam camera up there in the higher elevations where it is even windier. other readings, mid to upper 50's, so fairly narrow range of temperatures at the moment. looking from the emeryville camera along the bay bridge toward san francisco, mostly clear and breezy overnight, but the breezes will be diminishing. summer officially begins wednesday morning at 7:57, and we can expect below average temperatures for this time of year for the weekend, and of course through the first two days of summer. overnight, very few clouds, lots of clear skies. temperatures dropping to the cooler range. it will be breezy but not gusty, and then we will have a mainly sunny day. low temperatures mainly in the upper 40's in our inland areas to 51, 50 2° near the bay at along the coast and tomorrow's

highs, 59 at half moon bay. this time of year, especially going into summer, last day of spring tomorrow, and lend these areas will generally see high temperatures around 80, 82, 83°. only mid 70's tomorrow. it will be a pleasant and sunny day, but temperatures will be well below average. wednesday, first day of summer, we will see an increase in high temperatures in inland areas up to about 81, 80 2°. not much of an increase anywhere else. thursday, temperatures plummet once again, dropping eight or 10° in those inland areas, so getting off to a cool start for summer. sunny skies with the first couple of days. maybe som the coast, and then a sunnier and slightly milder weekend going into sunday, which is sf pride day, and we will be right
