police say the people inside that white car are still out there. >> tonight, i obtained a brand-new surveillance video from across the street from pier 39 being used by police to find the suspects. a vehicle sh the -- a video shows the vehicles involved. a passenger in the backseat of the sedan suddenly climbs halfway out the window and shoots at the suv. it appears the driver also sticks out an arm to open fire. the video also shows multiple civilians diving and ducking for cover. >> this francisco police say the speeding shoot out started and ended. j.r. stone has been pushing leaders for answers on this case. he is with us tonight with the latest on that part of the story. >> i did reach out to the mayor's office for a response after the shooting. nothing. i also reached out to the police department for an update tonight. nothing.

it is a holiday. one person who was vocal today, former mayor willie brown. it is this image, seemingly being chased by a white sedan sunday night in san francisco that is etched in the mind of many in the well-known tourist area who ran for cover. the video shows what police say was a roving gunbattle. witnesses say the incident started near the pier 39 parking lot and ended a mile and a half down the embarcadero at howard street where two of the gunshot victims were found. >> it is another black eye for the city, but it is not unusual for incidents of a similar nature to occur in any major american city. >> former san francisco mayor willie brown is not shying away from the cameras. the 89-year-old is advocating for the city, saying this is not just a san francisco problem.

>> one somebody says to me, how do you stop that? if the guns were not in the hands of the people, it would not happen. >> this video posted online also shows the moments where a 10 and 16-year-old girls who were walking their bicycles were clipped and knocked down by the racing vehicles. san francisco's supervisor compared the scene along the embarcadero sunday night. >> we start hearing pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, and it did not stop. >> to an old west shooting, saying more officers are needed in san francisco. >> we are severely by independent analysis. this is not something in my mind that is debatable. >> brown believes sunday's shooting is further proof in the need for another nationwide assault weapons band.

>> they do it by having legislators, both at the state level and at the national level, do what dianne feinstein did in washington and what mark bruce did in sacramento signed by the governor at that time, and it was signed by clinton at the time. needs to be repeated. >> i asked the police chief last night if he had a message for the people who fired off guns, the people who had a total disregard for everyone in the city. he got tough on that question and said there will be accountability, saying, "we will find you and you will go to jail." one person has been arrested and one has been detained. those were also two people who were shot. >> thank you very this shooting on the embarcadero is the latest in a series of unfortunate headlines for san francisco. a little more than a week ago, there was a mass shooting in the city's district, and we have

been telling you for weeks about the change of landscape at westfield mall downtown. >> all that has francisco faces a public relations nightmare. >> right now, it is just one thing after another. this latest incident, for as bad as it could have been, a grand theft auto-style shootout rolling down the embarcadero between fisherman's wharf and the ferry, two of the most iconic slices of real estate you will ever see, could have been worse. >> bill went on to say, bottom line, san francisco needs something that will stop this narrative, and right now, he doesn't think city leaders have any viable solutions. >> that gets us to our deep dive at 11:00 where we are able to focus in on an issue we feel is worthy of a little extra attention, and tonight, it is larger, worsening problem of gun violence not just gripping the bay area, but the entire state and the country. there were 10 shootings

yesterday alone, including not just the one in san francisco that we have been talking about, but another in oakland. this is according to the gun violence archive that monitors real-time data from across the u.s. the data shows just on sunday, there were 140 three separate shootings in america with seven being mass shootings. those are defined as minimum for people shot, either injured or killed, outside of the shooter. for the most part, they are only an american numb and on. among those shootings yesterday, a juneteenth celebration in willowbrook, illinois, turned deadly. police are trying to figure out how many suspects are responsible for the shooting. >> it is kind of becoming something where it is like inescapable. >> in washington state, at least two were killed and three others injured including the alleged gunman at a music festival. a 17-year-old was killed and nine other teenagers injured in

>> happening now, the clock is ticking on a large-scale search at the depths of the atlantic. >> five people on board a submersible the wreckage side of the titanic. >> for the second day in a row, the desperate search continues. >> super uncommon, super niche, and very, very strange to lose contact. >> a small submersible carrying five people was on a tourist expedition to see the wreckage of the titanic when suddenly, it disappeared. the submersible had been underwater less than two hours when it lost contact with its launching ship, about 900 miles east of cape cod, massachusetts. >> there could have been an accident. they could have become entangled in the wreckage of the titanic. it could indeed have had a catastrophic failure.

the answer is we don't know just yet. >> the submersible is operated by a washington-based company called oceangate. the ceo is one of those on board and also a graduate of uc berkeley. in a statement, the company says, "our entire focus is on the well-being of the crew, and every step possible is being taken to bring the five crew members back safely." oceangate assess the submersible only has enough oxygen to last 70 to 72 hours. experts say recovering the ship likely will not be easy. >> it takes a while to prepare and get the equipment to the location. these people, frankly, from what i've heard, might not have enough time. >> the coast guard say they are working around the clock to find the vessel. cal maritimes is the location also creates problems. >> this is a remote area and a super small craft with very
