lawsuits. >> abc seven news reporter dan noyes is back from court. >> oma and down a state law gave survivors of sexual abuse by clergy until this past december 31 to file lawsuits, no matter how long ago it happened. so many new claims came and it drove the diocese to bankruptcy. >> calling line item number one for the roman catholic bishop of oakland. >> the attorney for the catholic diocese of oakland first raised the issue at a hearing earlier this month. >> the notice and confidentiality has to do with what names will be made public. >> and she filed this motion to keep the names and contact information of priests and other diocese staff who may have committed child sexual abuse confidential to avoid the risk of identity theft or harassment. >> we have 50 to a new name so far. >> but survivors of clergy sexual abuse were there for the hearing today, pointing out that oakland bishop michael barber despite claims of transparency

and concern for victims has failed to release important information even on recent cases. >> not one memo has gone out to the parishioners of oakland saying hate fathers so-and-so has been accused. that means there has been no outreach so it is all a sham. >> they give lip service to that but when it comes time to actually take actions to be transparent in their words, they are as transparent as a brick wall. >> the catholic diocese of oakland has posted photos of priests who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor in the names of dozens more problem priests of deacons outside the diocese, older cases but court documents show as of may 4 they are facing 332 separate active lawsuits. now the church is also seeking confidentiality for church officials who may have covered up the criminal acts. >> that has never been requested before in my experience in diocese cases, we have never seen a request that those who

parting san francisco this afternoon for more fundraisers in marin county. abc7news reporter tim johns is live where the president landed just about 90 minutes ago. you saw the motorcade roll through? >> excitement here in the north bay, when the president landed about 90 minutes ago first we saw a whole bunch of military grade helicopters land with some different personnel, then came marine at one with president biden himself. folks were lined up here on magnolia avenue trying to get a glimpse of the president as he was making his way over to the town of kentfield, just one town over here in marin county. he has headed to the home of mark and stephanie robinson. mark robinson is a bay area entrepreneur who works in the pharmaceutical and biotech field. governor gavin newsom is also said to be in attendance at this fundraising event. it is no surprise that the president is stopping here in marin county. this is one of the most

a fighter jet spotted over marin this morning, it was a flying in airspace that was temporarily restricted due to biden's visit, the north american aerospace command said a fire jets responded to three incidents of aircraft violating the flight restrictions in the san francisco bay area. all three incidents concluded without incident. >> before his fundraising events, the future of artificial intelligence was a main item on president biden's agenda today. he sat down with ai researchers and experts from here in the bay area to talk about the benefits and the risks of this emerging technology. abc7news reporter zach fuentes spoke with a member of the president's cabinet about those conversations. >> artificial intelligence is developing quickly and while the benefits are being discovered the risks are also being weighed. dr., the president of science and technology advisor. proxy has been clear from the beginning this is one of the

most powerful technologies of our time. and that means if we are going to seize its benefits we have to start by managing its risks. >> the doctor sat next to president biden in san francisco tuesday to sit with a panel of researchers and experts including top mines from stanford and uc berkeley. >> i want to hear directly from the experts and these are some of the world's leading experts on this issue. >> leading experts and the doctor have diverse viewpoints. >> people who are critics and skeptics of ai as well as people who are very optimistic and building applications they think are going to take us forward into the future. >> biden touted work's administration has already done in the ai field. >> last october we proposed an ai bill of rights to ensure that important protections are built into the systems from the start. earlier this year i signed an executive order to direct my cabinet on the design and use of ai and in may we announced a new strategy for funding for

powerful gusts we had yesterday. the winds are easing up and 24 hour temperature change shows it is a few degrees warmer right now than at this time yesterday as we wind down spring giving us hope for a warmer day to start summer. we are going to have one, here is a look at tomorrow's project at high temperatures. upper 50's at the coast, but upper 60's to near 70 around the bay shoreline. upper 70's at most inland locations to about 80 in the warmest spots. it will be a warmer day than we have had as of late to start summer. on the second day of summer on thursday temperatures will drop sharply. there will be more june gloom in terms of the temperature readings and on thursday and friday, both days will be cooler than we would expect for the first part of summer. however there is a warm up in our future and i will have that in my accuweather 7-day forecast later. >> thank you. today tahoe officials unveiled a lengthy plan to save that hugely popular destination from its

reliance mostly on tourism and to address a number of environmental issues. a stewardship council will be tasked to manage traffic congestion, litter on the beaches and trails, outdoor recreation, and to ensure preservation and sustainability. coming up at 5:30 abc seven news anchor julian glover will talk with a member of the tahoe regional planning agency. >> here in the bay area san jose's mayor has unveiled a plan to address a blight and cleanup of the streets. members of the new focus area service team will walk city streets to inspect areas heavily impacted. fast members will write citations and ensure private property owners will maintain clean and safe structures. the team will also manage graffiti cleanup, overgrown vegetation, trash and more. >> all of us should feel proud to call san jose home, feel proud to run a business here, proud to raise our families here, proud to show off our city. many of us feel embarrassed about parts of our city and we should not.

it is the time for that to end. >> san jose city council plans to vote on the pilot plant -- program tonight and if passed it will begin in august. >> two oakland city council which is expected to vote this evening on an ordinance that will expand the city attorney's powers. there are more than 160 four ordinances in oakland but the city has no authority to enforce more than half of them. that means the city attorney often has to rely on state laws. if approved the city attorney would have more authority to enforce city laws that are already on the books. >> a crackdown is underway on organized retail theft focusing on ending the resale pipeline for stolen goods. the california attorney general's office says it has teamed up with retailers including cvs, walgreens, home depot and safeway. they have agreed to share reports of retail crimes, online retailers -- retailers will increase efforts to stop the resale of stolen items. >> the retailers behind us are fed up with us -- it. they are seeing their product stolen too often and it takes in

>> in the south bay police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run. police say a man was hit by a car before six this morning between capital and alum rock avenues. police say the victim died at the scene and the driver who hit him fled before officers arrived. traffic is now back open but both southbound lanes of capitol avenue been closed from allen rock avenue to florence court. >> this is the aftermath of a nasty crash this morning on westbound 80 in richmond. two big rigs collided near in on-ramp around 1:30 a.m. one was carrying sugar, the other carnival equipment. according to chp. one of the drivers had major injuries and had to be airlifted to a hospital, the collision shut down the entire freeway for a couple hours and lanes are made close into them commute hours. >> terrible i hope the driver is ok. it is time to talk about weather. >> summer is almost here. >> on this eve of summer it is

beginning to feel more like spring. i mentioned earlier the winds are not as strong as yesterday at this time and now two or three locations are as gusty as yesterday at this time. check it out. as we look at wind speeds we have gust up to 39 miles per hour. in oakland we had 40 yesterday, 31 in san mateo but generally speaking although it is breezy not nearly as breezy white -- as yesterday. 24 hour temperature change shows most locations are anywhere from two to 6° warmer than at this time yesterday. that gives us encouragement to it will be warmer tomorrow as summer arrives. here is a view from sutro tower, 65 in san francisco oakland 68, 70 in mountain view and san jose. 72 in palo alto and 59 and half moon bay. a bright and breezy at the golden 74 in santa rosa and napa and livermore, 75 in concord, fairfield 80. one more live view from sutro tower -- mount tam rather.

solstice. longest day of the year tomorrow, nearly 15 hours of daylight. here is the accuweather 7-day forecast. we will have this cooldown on thursday which will make it feel on summerlike but we are used to that because spring has not been so hot either. it will warm up on saturday and sunday will be a pretty mild day for the pride parade. at high temperatures and the upper 70's and even milder -- even warmer i should say on monday and tuesday. by next tuesday we will have inland highs in the mid 80's and mid-70's around the bay. it will start to feel like summer. >> imagine that. >> exactly. >> heads up if you access treasure island from the san francisco part of the bridge. at lower deck side of the bay bridge, the exit is changing beginning on thursday the left lane exit is scheduled to close. that means in order to get to treasure island you will need to take a new year but when i island exit on the right side of the bridge at the end of the
