enough to show these people that we are here and we are going to stay here. ama: tonight, pride festivities are underway in san francisco as the city continues its month-long celebration of the lgbtq+ community, culminating with this weekend's big parade. i am on a dates. julian: i am -- i am ama daetz. julian: i am julian glover. you begin our team coverage with abc 7 tara campbell, who joins us live from dolores park, where the 20th annual trans marches at to begin in about one hour. give us a sense of the excitement. tara: out here. the trans march begins in a couple of hours, but, first, dancing, music and resources for the community. the march falls on a time when the lgbtq+ community is under attack. the aclu is tracking nearly 500

bills taking aim at those rights, many targeting the transgender community, and speaking with people here today head of the march, that is top of mind. >> i think it is important to have more events like this. also, i think it is vital because there is joy here. we have a lot of negativity, and we do not hear enough about joy. >> i think it is really important to be with a community of people who look like you and think like you and have your same values. like, i mean, it is so rare to be surrounded by people like of your ilk. >> you can shine a light on the negative, but i think it is important to have the opposite and think, you know, all the happiness and community with everything. i think it is important to have good notes, as well as looking at what is also bad, trying to stop that, but also bringing light to everything. tara: this march gets underway in a couple of hours, starting

here at dolores park. people will be marching into the castro, so plenty of time to take in the festivities. everyone from dogs to pets, it is a really joyous time, people soaking up the sun ready to march for rights. julian: a packed crowd behind you, we appreciate it. before the trans march kicks off, another event got things started earlier today. the trans brunch took place as a way to bring the younger and older generations together. abc 7's we are melendez spoke to a few participants about the lessons learned. >> they say family is comprised of people who accept you for who you are. >> where we can celebrate our resiliency, beauty and joy, where we can come together as a family and not be so isolating. >> pride, pride, yea, yea, pride. >> every year on the friday of pride weekend, there is a gathering to honor those who struggled with barriers and

discrimination because of their sexual orientation. >> i was very, very young when i started telling people i was a girl, i was four years old, here in the bay area. they did not know what to do about that, so they put me in a place in los gatos, a mental hospital for children. >> it is those stories that are shared with younger trans people. >> a lot has changed. we have more access and ability to do the things that everyone else does. being a trans person. that is liberating in itself. >> we definitely cannot let our guard down. it is very scary to see what is happening in florida and other parts of the country. >> and be part of a community opened up a needed path for maceo. > when i can see people who are elders in the community finally a light clicked for us, ok, life is possible. >> when you come out finally and say i am who iam, dam it,

does that feel? >> amazing. be yourself and be who you are. ama: police will be staffing for san francisco pride weekend, including officers coming in on their days off. officials say they will be on hand at all pride related events, including the civic center area and at sunday's pride parade. police say they are not aware of any specific threats but are alert to increased rhetoric nationwide and are working with other law enforcement officers to monitor the situation. police say they do not know of any planned protests either. >> if we have people who decide to counter protest pride, one of my recommendations is, do not engage with them. you know? ignore them. they want the attention, do not let them have it. ama: the department will participate in sunday'se. julian:e would like to give you a look of the ro the

parade.it starts at bill street, making its way arke ending your 8th street, for the celebration. this means street closures in the area for the parade and surrounding event. ama: public transit is probably the most convenient way to joint activities. art is adding more service with five lines instead of the three at 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. extra trips will be operated on the oakland and alameda routes. caltrain is adding four trains that run northbound into the city. three lines will be rerouted around city center plaza because of the parade. the detours are in effect the entire weekend. julian: this june gloom has been hanging around and so many folks are wondering what will the weather be like for the parade this weekend? ama: sandhya patel might have the answer. sandhya: absolutely. i figured you guys are used to june gloom by now. it has been cooler than average

sunday at 10:00 a.m., and you can watch us on abc7news.com /pride or wherever you stream abc 7. ama: turning to more news tonight, new details on last nights deadly shooting near the palace street bart station in san francisco. take a look at an image from a cell phone taken shortly after the incident. police announced the arrest of 18-year-old davey and crawford. they say when officers arrived at the plaza outside the bart station, they found a man with gunshot wounds. he was taken to a nearby hospital where he died. the suspect was found inside a taxicab with a young woman in the mission district and taken into custody. >> we do not tolerate this type of behavior, and this department, this police department will do everything within its power and legal authority to make sure people are held to account. ama: police say this was an isolated incident following a dispute between the alleged suspect and victim. a witness said it resulted in a shooting after the victim gave a compliment to the alderman. julian: four bystanders were

injured after a shooting today. the district attorney is discharging the case against a 33-year-old man from pittsburgh who was arrested that night. he was wounded and was being held on five gun charges. with the case discharged, he is released from custody. the da says he could still be charged down the line because the investigation is ongoing. prosecutors say multiple crime scenes and significant evidence needs to be catalyzed -- categorized. ama: authorities told our media partners, the east bay times, that a 19-year-old man is accused of driving a getaway car fothe person who grabbed angel's person downtown oakland back in february. angel got tangled in the door as the car drove away and was dragged 50 feet. she died two days later. the suspect was linked to a second robbery. angel owned angel cake bakery and favored restorative justice over incarceration.

julian: oakland police are investigating a serious death not far from the zoo. a goatherd or found a man's body while the goats were doing brush mitigation at nolan park. the remains was near a small creek. investigators have not determined if there was a crime involved. ama: oakland police are looking for a man who shot and killed a flower delivery person. julian: this happened on

telegraph avenue in the uptown district. deo shows the two men getting into a confrontation which led to one pulling out a gun. ama: ryan curry has the details. ryan: a man and woman walking her dogs goes by a person carrying a base of flowers. the delivery person and demanded exchange words and it escalates quickly. the vases throne and the man pulls out a gun and shoots the delivery person. moments later, the woman with him runs back, grabs one of the dogs and then runs away as the delivery person suffers from a fatal gunshot wound. >> i feel it is a tragic and unfortunate incident that is senseless. ryan: sherry showed us this video, and she runs the korean benefit district, coalition that organizes friday gatherings in the neighborhood. she told us she recognizes the shooter and believes he has lived in the area for a few months and is known to carry a gun because he is protective of his french bulldogs. she says there are cameras everywhere in the neighborhood.

>> we have over 60 cameras already. we have about six intersections completely covered, and we are going to cover six more. ryan:ryan: oakland police confirmed the shooting happened for 6:30 p.m. wednesday on telegraph avenue at 20 six st. video from the same shows shattered glass, flowers on the ground, and multiple evidence oakland police have not named any suspects yet and have not shared what was said between the two before the shooting. carol five -- carroll fife "this was a verbal altercation that turned physical in which the victim lost her life. opd's homicide investigation team is currently working on the case and following up on leads. the next of kin has not been notified and therefore identities are being withheld. i'm confident the homicide team will close out this senseless act of violence." she says she hopes this leads them to an arrest. >> i hope he quickly gets apprehended, and no one else gets hurt by this man.

fireworks are the only kind legal in the city. anyone setting up illegal fireworks could face a fine of $1000, and there is also a social host ordinance, which means hosts can be held responsible for fireworks set off by guest and find. fireworks are legal between july june 30 and july 4 if they are safe and legal. julian: to crackdown on illegal fireworks, the san mateo county sheriffs's office is hosting its first ever firework buyback program, like gun buybacks. suzanne phan explains how this works. >> this place goes off on the fourth of july, like boom everywhere. suzanne: fourth of july is around the corner, and maria and others in redwood city say they are hearing the booms from illegal fireworks now. >> i heard them yesterday actually. it was around 9:30 by the 711. it was really loud, just like an explosion. suzanne: illegal fireworks are a

no-no in san mateo county. > there are only a couple cities in our county that allow for safe fireworks. >> i know our law enforcement department gets overwhelmed with the amount of calls they receive. suzanne: that is why the san mateo county sheriff's office is holding a special fireworks buyback program this sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 2500 middlefield road in redwood city. > it is a no questions asked opportunity for residents or citizens to turn in any unused fireworks or illegal fireworks they do not want. we will pay them up to $75 based on the amount of weight they surrender to us. suzanne: the buyback program will be held in this parking lot. >> the goal is to provide people with a safe way to dispose fireworks, rather than setting it off or throwing it into a dumpster where some could pick it up or catch on fire. suzanne: deputies are taking the matter seriously with signs posted at many parks. >> we have had deputies go out to the community, reminding people that fireworks are not allowed in some of our areas. suzanne: people could be hit

but we get june gloom. good evening to all of you. let's check out the pride weekend forecast. it starts out with gray skies tomorrow, breezy in the afternoon for celebrations you are taking part in. sunday is the parade. 53 in the morning with morning fog, followed by 63 in the afternoon. there will be some sunshine, but a good idea to take the layers. as we look at our live pictures from our tower cameras, you can pretty much see a mixture of fog and sunshine. up to the north, on live doppler 7, thunderstorms are erupting over the mountains. locally, we are hanging on to some cloud cover near the coast. that cloud cover advancing across the bay quickly as the wind gusts are onshore to 30 miles an hour in oakland right now. that will help to transport that marine layer. temperatures in the 50's coast side to the 70's inland. not where we should be this time of year. temperatures are from a few degrees to 10 degrees cooler than average. but it is beautiful in santa
