the next thing you know, the fire is on the patios. windows were cracking. wasn't able to get anything out of the house but my mother-in-law and daughter. ama: no one was hurt but some residents have reported missing pets. our crew is still on the scene and we will bring you any new information as we get it. good evening and thank you for joining us. let's move on now to pride. the lasers are lighting up the night in san francisco. the rainbow art installation returned to the plaza in front of the san francisco ferry building. london breed and nancy pelosi attended the ceremony. the lights create the largest pride flag in the world when they point up market street. hundreds of people took to the streets of san francisco for the 20th annual trans march. eric campbell shows us, this year's march was marked by celebration and protest. ♪ reporter: a celebration of the transgender community.

hundreds marching from san francisco's dolores park to the castro. >> it's important to be with a bunch of people just like you. it's important to embrace who you are. it easier -- it's easier when you see other people doing the same. >> it's vital because there is joy here. there's a lot of negativity. reporter: the joy sounding -- shining down on dolores park with music and dancing ahead of the march. >> i think it's important to be with a community of people who look like you and think like you and have your same values. reporter: support from within the community and beyond, from four-legged allies to their owners. >> i think pride is important for everybody. all lives matter and people are here. they are welcome and they like to protect each other. reporter: this march falls as the community is under attack. the aclu is tracking nearly 500 bills taking aim at lgbtq+ writes. many of them targeting the

transgender community. >> trans lives are human lives and we have to fight for ourselves and our girls. reporter: grace lawrence is the founder of a nonprofit working to protect transgender women and she says seeing this kind of support gives her hope. >> the crowd has gotten so huge. all i want to say he happy trans march and happy pride. reporter: sarah campbell, abc7news. ama: the traditional trans brunch took place this morning to bring the older and younger generations together. it honors those who have struggled with barriers and discrimination because of their sexual orientation. attendees shared stories with each other about things they've been through. >> i was very young when i started telling people i was a girl. i was four years old. that was here in the bay area. they didn't know what to do about that so they put me in a place in los gatos, a mental hospital for children. >> a lot has changed since then.

we have more access and ability to do the things that everybody else does. being a trans person, that's liberating. ama: the brunch is a reminder that family is comprised of you are.ho accept you for who see the san francisco pride can parade broadcast live. will be on a or wherever you stream abc 7. it's a busy weekend with lots of pride events going on including that parade. let's get a look at the forecast with sandhya patel. sandhya: we have some fabulous weather for pride festivities this weekend. let's take a look at live pictures from our tower cameras. visibility is still fine even though we do have low clouds out there. that's how it will start off sunday morning at 9:00. clouds and fog, mid-50's. there will be peaks of sun for the early afternoon.

partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 60's. later on at night, clouds will increase again, dropping down to 59 degrees. big changes coming. let you know when and what those changes are in just a few minutes. ama: thank you. developments in the death of an oakland bakery owner. a man has been charged with murder and robbery. angel died in february after being dragged 50 feet by a car. tim johns joins us live from the newsroom with reaction from some of angel's friends. reporter: that person charged is is male birch. the 19-year-old was charged earlier this month with angels murder and robbery as well as a second robbery that occurred the same day angel was injured. i spoke to friends of angel about what she would want to see happen next. four months after the death of angel, the oakland police department announcing they have a suspect in custody. angel was dragged by a car during a person snatching and

died days later. on incident that drew national headlines in sans outpouring of support for angel's friends and family. >> she loved supporting her friends and her community. i would often turn to her when i had questions or needed advice. reporter: angel's friend is one of several people going -- calling on local authorities to pursue an alternative to traditional prosecution. >> angel believed that we need to address harm and create accountability. that's rooted in looking at the root causes of why harm happens. reporter: angel strongly disagreed with the current criminal justice system and would not want her killer to go to prison. >> locking someby in a cage is not really going to bring her back. reporter: angel would have liked to form a restorative justice to happen. friends have been working alongside the nonprofit restore oakland. >> restorative justice is about

healing and healing begins with telling the truth. our current criminal justice system robs any opportunity of truth telling from all parties. reporter: the next steps in the case will be decided by the district attorney's office. she hopes angels sorry can make a difference. >> there were almost 600 people that showed up at her memial from all over the country. i think part of that is just the impact that she had. reporter: she's currently being held without bail at santa rita jail in dublin. the district attorney's office disc -- declined to comment on the case tonight. tim johns, abc7news. ama: san francisco police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting near the balustrade bart station. police arrested a 19-year-old man from sacramento. officers find -- found him in a taxicab. the shooting was an isolated incident that happened after the victim gave a complement to a woman the suspect was with.

an update on the father's day shooting that injured four bystanders along the embarcadero in san francisco. the district attorney is discharging the case against a 33-year-old pittsburgh man arrested that night. he was wounded and was being held on five gun charges. he is now being released from custody. the da says he could still be charged down the line because the investigation is still ongoing. questions remain about what led to the implosion of the titan submersible. the national transportation safety board is joining the investigation. officials believe the implosion occurred sunday when the sub lost contact with his mother ship on its way down to see the titanic. the loved ones of the five people on board are now speaking out about the sudden loss. >> [inaudible] >> his dream explore the titanic. unfortunately, that dream turned into a nightmare. ama: some experts say the

disaster may have been preventable. the sub is the only one like it and was never certified. the cofounder of the company is defending the ceos commitment to safety. it may seem too early to be talking about christmas but one major southbay event is in jeopardy. christmas in the park organizers say partners are considering pulling out because of unpermitted fetters. -- vendors. they want the city to step in. >> -- reporter: we are talking about christmas in june. san jose's christmas event is at risk this year. third-party companies are hesitant to return because they say unpermitted vendors that surround the event have become too big of a problem. >> due to the fact that the unpermitted vendors that are causing accessibility issues to local businesses, art events, blocking crosswalks and sidewalks, it has gotten to a point where we've reached out to the city to ask for help.

reporter: christmas in the park explains they are at risk of losing winter wonderland, a partnership for more than 23 years. it contracts with amusements that provide rides and games. >> not having anything, none of the rides or the carnival games would actually impact our revenue to a minimum of $55,000 that we usually depend on for our budget. reporter: the spokesman for the host said, butler amusements will not return given the current landscape. there is still hope to return if the city can guarantee they will enforce their own codes which should be protecting the vendor area. >> we feel that if they get a clear message from the city, that action will be taken in the form of code enforcement. our hope is that they will return this year. reporter: organizers estimate 40

people set off illegal fireworks. the san mateo county sheriff office is hosting its first-ever firework buyback program this weekend. suzanne phan's planes how it works. >> this place goes off on t fourth of july. boom everywhere. reporter: fourth of july is just around the corner. people in redwood city are hearing the booms from illegal fireworks now. >> i heard them yesterday 9:30. it was really loud. just like explosions. reporter: illegal fireworks are a no-no in san mateo county. >> there's only a couple cities that allow for safe and sane fireworks. >> the law enforcement department gets overwhelmed with the amount of calls they receive. reporter: the sheriffs office is holding a special fireworks buyback program. it is this sunday from 10:00 to 3:00 in redwood city. >> the fireworks buyback is a no questioned asked opportunity for

residents or citizens to turn in any unused fireworks. we will pay them up to $ on the amount of weight that they turn in or surrender to us. ama: the program will be held in this parking lot. >> the goal is to provide people with the safeway to the -- dispose of their fireworks. reporter: at many parks. >> we've been having our deputies go out into the community and remind people that fireworks are not allowed in some of our areas. reporter: people could be hit with a hefty fine. >> up to $1000 for illegal fireworks. in certain situations, it's up to $2000. reporter: some people say the program is a good idea. >> it's good, especially for kids. they can get hurt. fireworks are bad. reporter: officials suggest leaving firework displays to the professionals. >> we go to seaport, down

woodside road, all the way down toward seaport and it's a place where people gather. we've been going there since we were kids. >> i don't go here on the fourth of july. i go across the bay. reporter: suzanne phan, abc7news. ama: the finishing touches being put in place for supportive housing in the south bay. volunteers are hard at work preparing 94 units on 4th street in san jose. the first residents are people 55 and older who have experienced homelessness. they are set to sign leases in early july. ease -- each unit has cooking and cleaning supplies. >> to see it finished and painted and now staged for people to come is really exciting. reporter: the residents are referred by the county or -- office of supporting housing. the nonprofit says 95% of people who move into supportive housing thrive in their new communities.

tomorrow marks one year since the supreme court overturned roe v. wade, eliminating the constitutional right to an abortion. president biden and vice-president, harris attended a reproductive rights event today. the president signed an executive order to preserve access to contraception. harris is going to give a speech tomorrow in north carolina to mark the anniversary of the supreme court decision. the cdc is simplified covid-19 vaccine recommendations for younger children. an advisory committee is reviewing a single dose vaccination for children ages two to four. currently, children under five need to or three doses depending on the brand of vaccine they receive. experts told the panel the majority of children under 12 are not vaccinated. the panel did not make a final decision at today's meeting. the agency is taking a look at a longer-term vaccination strategy against mpox. members of the advisory committee on immunization

practices are discussing new information in the fight to stop people getting the disease. the outbreak peaked in august but cases have continued to appear. the current mpox vaccine is highly effective. the vaccine did not stop people from getting the virus but it did help prevent severe illness and hospitalization. couples in san francisco celebrated pride by tying the knot at city hall. more than 250 couples said i do with the special lgbtq+ pride celebration. this comes 10 years after california resumed same-sex marriages. >> we are married on the p lamb. i'm so excited. >> now we have to be more loud and proud and say that we are here and we don't go nowhere. what a beautiful day to show this through love and kindness in san francisco. ama: preparations outside of city hall are under way ahead of sunday's pride parade. abc 7 is the only place you can see the san francisco pride parade broadcast live.

everyone wants to know how the weather will be for the pride weekend. let's get to sandhya patel for that. sandhya: it will be fantastic. not exactly how warm it should be for this time of year around the bay area including san francisco but pleasant. here's a look at the pride forecast. gray start for tomorrow morning. breezy afternoon. 62 degrees for the afternoon. sunday, morning fog and some sunshine. we are looking at temperatures above the same 63 degrees. gorgeous view. sunset at 8:45. we did have clouds on multiple levels but still saw a little bit of color through the high clouds and low clouds. both of those right now on live doppler 7 as we take you back in time just a forte time ago. cloud cover over san francisco which includes the parade route and that's pretty much how it will start out.
