it is saturday, june 24. thanks for joining us. let's start with the weather. we know pride is this weekend. lots going on. >> i know you were asking me and temperatures will be cooler than average. starting off with a lot of cloud cover. you can see it here. it will take a while for the clouds to clear as i show you this shot from the exploratorium. you see clouds over san francisco. even by lunch time, it's going to be cloudy in san francisco and at the coast. temperatures will be in the 50's for the next couple hours. by this afternoon, breezy conditions. the sea breeze will keep things on the cool side. inland areas, mid 70's. at the beaches, near 60. sunsets at 8:35. more sunshine inland. tomorrow, i will have the forecast for the pride parade coming up. >> thank you.

he want to know all about that. an arson investigation is underway in san jose after multiple townhomes caught on fire around 10:00 last night. firefighters say up to 40 people had to find another place to stay and five homes were heavily damaged. the complex is on lou's avenue. one resident said he barely had enough time to get out with his family. >> given what -- i managed to take my mother-in-law out. the windows were cracking. was not able to get anything out of the house but my mother-in-law and daughter. >> nobody was hurt, but some people who live there have reported missing pets. we told you about this story first on our abc7 app. to get breaking notifications like this one, download our abc7news app.

lasers are lighting in san francisco for pride month. the grand finale is happening this weekend. the rainbow art installation returned last night to the plaza in front of the san francisco ferry building. mayor london breed and nancy pelosi attended the ceremony. the lights are supposed to create the largest pride flag in the world when they point up market street. hundreds of people showed their support for san francisco's 20th annual trans march. as abc7 reporter tara campbell tells us, it was marked by celebration and protest. >> a celebration of the transgender community. hundreds marching from san francisco's park to the castro. >> it's important to be with people like you. it's important to embrace who you are and it's easier to do that when you see other people doing the same. >> there's joy we have a lot of negativity and we don't hear enough about joy. >> that shining down on dolores

march and heavy pride. >> tara campbell, abc7. >> we are just a day away from one of the biggest pride celebrations in the country. san francisco's pride parade kicks off tomorrow morning with a festival that will follow. there's a big lineup of performers who will hit the main stage. sfpd says there will be available officers on duty during the festivities. they say while there are no specific threats against the celebration, they do want to make sure that safety is a top priority. >> this is about community, unity, inclusiveness, and it shows whatever city is all about, so we want to make sure this is a great event and everybody is safe. >> about 500,000 people or more are expected to watch and take part in the pride parade. it is scheduled to start at 10:30 in the morning. public transit is one of the most convenient ways to join the festivities. b.a.r.t. is adding more services than ever before with five lines instead of its usual three

second robbery that happened the same day angel was hurt. tim johns talked to her friends about what she would have wanted. >> performance after the death of jin angel, the police department announcing they have a suspect in custody. in february, angel was dragged by a car during a purse snatching and died days later, an incident that drew headlines and saw an outpouring of support for her friends and family. >> she loved supporting her friends and her community in difficult moments. i would talk to her when i had questions or needed advice. >> she's one of several people calling on local authorities to pursue an alternative to traditional prosecution. >> i believed that we address harm and create accountability that is rooted in looking at the root causes of why harm happens. >> she says angel disagreed with the criminal justice system and would not want her alleged killer to go to

prison. >> locking somebody in a cage. is that going to bring her back? >> instead she says she would have liked a form of restorative justice to happen. they have been working alongside the nonprofit restore oakland. >> restorative justice is about healing and healing begins with telling the truth and our current criminal justice system robs any opportunity of truth telling from all parties. >> the case will the alameda county district attorney's office. she hopes angel story can make a difference. >> almost 600 people showed up at her memorial. i think that is the impact she had had. >> tim johns, abc7. >> the latest on the father's day shooting that left four people injured along the embarcadero. san francisco's district attorney is discharging the case against a 33-year-old pittsburgh man arrested that night. he was wounded and being held on

gun charges. with a case discharged, he has been released from custody. the da says he could be charged down the line because the situation is ongoing. the national transportation safety board is joining the investigation into what led to the implosion of the titan sub. officials say they believe the deadly implosion happened sunday, when the sub lost contact with its mothership on his way to see the titanic. the loved ones of the five people on board are now speaking out about the sudden loss. >> it is sad. but also amazing also brought the world together. >>'s dream was to explore the titanic -- his dream was to ask for the titanic. >> some experts say the disaster may have been preventable. the sub is the only one like it that was never certified. but the cofounder of the company is defending the ceos commitment to safety.

it may seem too early to be talking about christmas but one major southbay event is in jeopardy. christmas in the park organizers say organizers are considering pulling out because of unpermitted vendors. as reporter lauren martinez explains, they want the city to step in. >> we are talking about christmas in june, san jose's massive event at risk this year. third-party companies are hesitant to return because they say vendors that surround the event have become too big of a problem. >> due to the fact that the unpermitted vendors that are causing accessibility issues to the ice skating rink, local businesses, our event, blocking crosswalks, sidewalks, it's gotten to the point where we have reached out to the city to ask for help. >> in a letter to the mayor and council members, christmas in the park explains they are at risk of losing winter wonderland, a partnership for more than 23 years.

winter wonderland contracts with butler amusements. >> not having anything, none of the rides or carnival games, what actually -- would actually impact our revenue to a minimum of $55,000. >> the spokesperson said b amusements will not return given the current landscape. there is still hope for them to return if the city can guarantee pd will enforce their own codes, which should be protecting the vendor area. >> we feel that if they get a clear message from the city that action will be taken in the form of code enforcement, then our hope is that they will return. >> organizers estimate 40,000 on permanent that 40,000 impermanent -- that 40,000 impermanent vendors surround the event. >> the majority of event goers

cah llas at 4th street. southbay reporter zach fuentes got inside look at the location hoping to change lives. >> this way. >> volunteers are hard at work preparing each of these 94 units for their first residence. those who are said to call the units home are people 55 and up who have at one point experienced homelessness. each item and piece of furniture lovingly put in place. >> i'm getting emotional. >> one of those volunteers has been following the progress of the project for at least a year. >> to see it finished and painted and staged for people to come,.it's exciting >> it broke ground in august of 2021 and services are provided by the nonprofit past. the project received funds from sources like voter approved measure a, dedicated to affordable and supportive housing. each resident who moves and is referred by the office

of supported housing. >> if a resident earns my hundred dollars a month, they will contribute one third of their income to the rent and the housing authority will subsidize their rent, but if a resident is earning may $200 month. >> each is outfitted with everything a resident will need. but more than just providing a place to live, the site hopes to provide a place of community through common areas like this dog park and the kitchen. >> we may have documentary nights and movie nights and bingo nights and karaoke seems to be a popular activity as well. >> the first residence are set to sign leases in early july. the hope is this community will be another model of what she says is an effective solution. >> we have seen across our community that 95% of people who move into supportive housing are able to stabilize and maintain their homes and thrive in their new communities.

>> zach fuentes, abc7news. >> san francisco home and business owners are frustrated with activity along one loan street. the trouble area is on willow street near van ness avenue. one restaurant owner had bars installed on the front door after several safety concerns. >> every single day, the same thing. never change. >> residents say there's been ongoing activity of drug dealing, substance use and public misconduct among homeless people. they say even after filing multiple complaints to the city, nothing is being done about it. the state attorney's office told abc7 there's only so much they can do when the law prohibits enforcing action against sitting, lying or sleeping on public property. couples in san francisco celebrated pride by tying the knot at city hall. more than 250 couples said i do with a special lgbtq+ pride
