will be in the mid-50's for the next few hours. we will finally get sunshine in the afternoon, but only warming up to the low 60's. gloria: we are celebrating pride month here at abc 7 in san francisco, we are counting down to the grand finale, the pride parade happening in just a few hours. this as celebrations have been going on all weekend long. hundreds took to the streets for the annual dyke francisco. tara campbell talked to people who say the crowds are extra meaningful this year. >> countless steps taken from dolores park to the castro. san francisco's decades-old dyle ke march as meaningful as ever. marching and fighting for their rights. the aclu is currently tracking nearly 500 bills taking aim at the lgbtq+ community. the majority, introduced this

dion lim talks to the daughter of the owners that says something needs to be done. >> just before 1:00 a.m. friday, you can see three individuals open colonial doughnuts. as soon as the cashier approaches the trio, one after another jumped the counter, firearms in hand. >> they are yelling at him, pointing the gun at him. >> demand demand three bakers lay low while they search for a safe. with no luck, they returned to the front of the shop and entered the contents of the cash register. this location has been owned by the family by nearly 40 years. she describes the small business as her mother and father's american dream. she says they have survived a recession and the pandemic and share this story with the community and local leaders to hopefully make change. >> i hope they know that small businesses are part of oakland's community and we are looking for help and we are suffering in many ways, feel defeated at

times. i do not know what the answer is, but i think something has to change. >> colonial doughnuts remained open friday. they hope they will not help them -- have to shorten their hours in the future because of crime. opd says there have been no arrests made. gloria: she says she plans to speak about the incident at the next lakeshore merchants association meeting later this month. oakland mayor zhang tao is expected to be there. today on the peninsula, the san mateo county sheriff's office is hosting its first ever firework ibach program. the no questions asked event is a chance for people to earn extra cash and gives deputies a chance to help get illegal fireworks off the streets. >> the goal is to provide people that they safe way to dispose of fireworks, rather than setting it up or throwing it into a dumpster. gloria: people interested in the buyback can bring unused or

unsafe fireworks and can get up to $75. the event starts at 10:00 this morning and goes until 3:00 in redwood city. san jose mayor matt mahan is making it clear that drugs on city streets will not be tolerated. during a press conference, he joined the police chief and sheriff's office to promise that drug dealers will be put in a jail cell and said his office is focus on helping users at the treatment that they need. >> nobody is buying it, nobody would be doing it. last year, we had 240 six people die on our streets. that is more than double the number who have died in our city from homicides and tractor fatalities combined. there are way too many people out on the streets to say that is their choice, i do not think that is common sense. gloria: the mayor says san jose is the safest big city in the bay area and he wants to keep it that way. a check of your forecast with

simon, 18 we profiled last has died. zion was legally blind after shot in 2021 and continued his dream to become a professional skateboarder. his family called abc 7 and told us he passed away in his sleep last night and they are planning a celebration of life for him this coming monday along with a balloon release at ocean beach. the investigation into the titan submersible continues. the polar prince, the canadian ship that launched the sub returned to port in newfoundland. investigators plan to collect data from the data recorder on the conduct interviews and recover audio recovering. it could take up to two years to investigate why the sub imploded, killing all five passengers on board. the u.s. coast guard is deciding whether to recover pieces of the sub down on the ocean floor. a local deep-sea engineer out of alameda says ocean gate ceo

ignored early warning signs that the material used to build the summer civil was not safe -- submersible was not safe. reporter: long before a titan submersible carrying five people on a quest to see the titanic wreckage lost all communications before later imploding came the early warnings. >> we told him, someone is either going to be killed in this thing and you've got to not do it. reporter: ocean gate ceo stockton rush paid a visit to alameda in 2015 while in the thick of building his submersible to meet with liz taylor. taylor is a deep-sea engineer and president of d.o.e. are marine operations where a their own submersibles. he wanted to hear her findings from a research project. >> stockton felt like he was pushing the envelope, using new materials. reporter: that is what tailored specifically advised against the use of carbon fiber as it is still experiment and has not been tested over time in extreme

depths of the ocean. >> it being hollow on the inside or one atmosphere on the inside and having the pressure of the ocean, trying to push in on it is not the right material. reporter: in 2018, the man submersible to many of the marine technological society backed her up, writing a letter urging rush not to proceed, ignoring all warnings he moved forward. >> where this went askew was, i do not need them. i have done the math. i am confident in my engineering. reporter: taylor says rush cut obvious corners like not building his sub to have rescue capacity, a remotely operated vehicle that can serve as a self rescue tool. >> there was no second summer civil. reporter: she says because rush was technically operating in international waters, there was no way of stopping him. >> when this happened through this combination of hubris,

complacency and greed, it was frustrating and sad for the families that they did not have -- maybe they had no idea of the true level of risk they were putting themselves at. gloria: that is what tech billion years elon musk and mark zuckerberg are saying about a potential cage match with each other. the president of ufc david white says he was on the phone with musk and zuckerberg about holding the fight in vegas. musk confirmed it might happen. the quarrel between the two billionaires started on social media and escalated. the white -- white says the match could generate $1 billion. in the north bay, a show of strength in unity yesterday. people took part in a pride solidarity march in santa rosa. the route was between two lgbtq+ owned businesses which were previously vandalized.

the goal of the march was to promote educate and support the lgbtq+ community. a group of richmond kids went on a special learning adventure on the water to see the release of 200,000 fish into the san francisco bay. the salmon started the process of adapting to saltwater, a process called schmaltz vacation. abc 7 spoke to the kids who say they left inspired by the employees passion. >> they showed us because t are passionate about it. when they came up here and spoke about it, i could see they were into it and they were light, enjoying their job. i thought that was pretty cool. gloria: the group spent the rest of their time on the water learning about salmon and the hatchery efforts. this sunday is a big one in san francisco, half a million it affected to be here for -- half a million expected to be here for pride events. francis, you were talking about

a live shot from notice the droplets. not only do we have low clouds, patchy fog, we have drizzle this morning. it is going to be mostly cloudy for the san francisco pride parade and events today. it is going to be significantly warmer, 20 degrees warmer by the end of the weekend. here is the pride parade forecast. today, 9:00, mid-50's. by lunchtime, we start to hit the upper 50's, peaks of sunshine. in the afternoon, we get the most sunshine but it will be partly cloudy. temperatures will only be 62 degrees this afternoon, dropping down into the 50's by the evening. here is the forecast animation as we zoom in around the afternoon hours. you notice a lot of cloud cover along the beaches and parts of

gloria: the federal government warning about imposter scams taking billions of dollars from consumers. it happened recently to an east bay teacher. here is what is worse, she says her bank did not try to stop it. michael finney has her story. >> complete and utter panic. reporter: she still feels the sting of the scam. >> i was literally shaking. reporter: it happened as her students were finishing final exams. her cell phone rang. the caller id said wells fargo bank. >> i am calling from wells

fargo, we are investigating rod that is going on right now -- fraud going on right now. are you trying to wired $20,000 from your savings account? i said i'm not. reporter: a man on the phone told her she better wire the $20,000 to the bank's fraud department where it would be safe. >> i said walk me through this. when that was done he said there is another wire rod transfer coming in now in the form of $5,000 from your savings. reporter: and followed instructions and wired $5,000 more. >> i see the money leave my account and she says it is ok, it is in our fraud department. >> the man said someone was trying to get another $3500 through her zelle account and believed him. >> i panicked someone somewhere in the world had access to my money. reporter: she drove to the nearest wells fargo branch but the man still on the phone told the teller someone was attacking her account.

silently, the teller warned her the thief was actually the man on the phone. >> he mouthed to me, it is not wells fargo and i started to panic. reporter: she pleaded with bank employees to stop those wire transfers fast, but to her shock, no one would help. >> i am sorry, we are backed up with appointments, back to back. you need to go to another branch. we cannot help you here. i was dumbfounded. how can you not help me? >> you have a woman in the process of being defrauded with tears coming down her eyes and you sent her away? reporter: she raised across town to another branch. >> it took time to get through the traffic and road work they are doing. reporter: the banker at the other branch saw her in tears, responded quickly and managed to stop the $5,000 wire transfer. the $20,000, too late. it was gone. wells fargo denied her claim for reimbursement and called her to say she authorized the

transaction. >> he was like, sorry, wells fargo would never call you and i said, you just called me from wells fargo. reporter: we asked wells fargo why banker said they were too busy and tried -- instead of trying to stop the fraud. the bank did not respond exactly but said we strive to do all we can to support scam victims. we take these situations seriously and provide options, including our fraud team contact information. >> you send her away. yeah. that is what is disappointing me most. gloria: still on abc 7 mo the countdown to san francisco's pride parade begins in about an hour. we have a preview from the parade route from

sunday. we are starting this half-hour with a look at the weather. frances, we know it weekend here in san francisco. half a million people are coming for pride. frances: we have lots of clouds over the bay area including san francisco. bundle up if you are coming into the city or have a few layers. 9:00 this morning, temperatures in the 50's. we are starting to see drizzle. it is going to be sunny inland by lunchtime. it is going to take until the afternoon hours for some sunshine to break through a long san francisco and the coastline. lots of clouds all day long. inland areas will be below average, mid-70's with that breeze picking up around the bay, mid 60's at the beaches, upper 50's. we have a few more cool days before a big warm up, which i will tell you about in the accu seven whether -- gloria:

forecast. gloria:pride has finally arrived with the parade starting in less than an hour. the 53rd annual san francisco pride weekend kicked off yesterday with musical performances, dance venues, drag shows, street vendors and more. the festivities at civic center and through six club p.m. followed by the 31st annual dyke march in dolores park. throughout the city, local bars and clubs are hosting special events and activities. if you are going to the parade -- not going to the parade, abc 7 is the place to be. we will bring it to you live starting at 10:30 this morning. right now, we are going to reggie aqui on the parade route right now. we know you are one of our hosts for today. we won to know how the energy is -- one to two know how the energy is now. >> this is our second year doing this parade and we have a major upgrade to our platform. i am excited to see you this

health care? reporter: recent poll by abc news, 78% of americans say the decision to have an abortion should be left to a woman and her doctor including 58% of republicans. >> it should be what everyone is focused on. gloria: governor gavin newsom released his statement yesterday, he said in part in california, the right to an abortion -- abortion care is embedded into our constitution and we are leading a coalition of 22 governors to defend this right across our nation, putting women above extremist, minority views. authorities identified some material that leaked when a train derailed in montana saturday. the rail link train was on a bridge crossing the lodestone river when it collapsed and several tanker cars ended in the river. those cars contained molten sulfur and asphalt. montana rail link says nobody was hurt.

athletes and coaches. they compete in swimming, tennis and track and field. the summer games gives athletes with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to play and learn important lessons. >> the coaches are my role models and mentors. i look at our special olympics athletes. we build relationships these athletes and it means everything to them. gloria: athletes of any age can participate. they are given awards at the end of the summer games. in the north, a bay area dollar is back home to help his community celebrate. he hosted a basketball tournament on their newly renovated basketball court. hometown hero darian trammell helped lead san diego state to the finals of the ncaa tournament.

11 was the magic again, right? they picked up jet howard. that is who it was. number 11. >> that is impressive, that is your look at sports. let's send things back to you. gloria: bay fc, the bay area's newly named women's soccer team is set to start playing next year. the question remains which city will serve as the team's permanent home. according to our media partner, the mercury news, san francisco, oakland and san jose are all vying for the spot. they are gearing up with discussions with bay fc. we had video from a recent event. the newspaper says the team will likely play its first match at a temporary location in the south bay but will one its own stadium in the long-term future. it is still unclear where that will be. let's get a check of that forecast.

we were talking to reggie earlier at the pride parade. he said it was drizzly out there, is that going to clear up? frances: we have drizzle right now. it is going to take a wild to clear up, especially in san francisco. we have widespread low clouds, but there is brakes in some of that marine layer. a live shot of san francisco where it is still right. temperatures are generally in the 50's, though it is climbing to 61 in palo alto. mountain view and san jose at 59 degrees. see that flag blowing, the winds pick up this afternoon. still cloudy over the golden gate ridge. most of these temperatures also in the mid to upper 50's. concord, a little warmer degrees. from emeryville, you see some ripples and the waves on the

water caused by the light breeze. we have low clouds, patchy fog and drizzle this morning. mostly cloudy 40 sf pride parade, but we will have brakes and sunshine this afternoon. significantly warmer by the end of the week. i will show you that. a look at the pride forecast. overcast conditions for the next couple of hours. by noon, we will get mostly cloudy conditions, sunshine and more likely afternoon is when we get more sunshine. it will be breezy. we will see temperatures hit the low 60's and cooling down quickly to the 50's in the evening. he forecast animation shows a good onshore push. by this afternoon, clouds stick around the beaches, even parts of the peninsula. elsewhere, inland locations and the east they will get sunshine although the breeze will push those clouds right back in this
