>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7news. ama: b's everywhere and this is just the aftermath. an elderly man is injured after a swarm of attacked him while he was trying to retrieve a model plane. lakeville highway in sonoma county. thankfully the man is going to be ok. ama: j.r. stone went to the scene. here's what witnesses and experts are saying about this scary situation. >> when we saw him staggering back here and he collapsed. reporter: bees landing on his face as we asked about bees that attacked an elderly man in this

area of sonoma county near highway 37 and lakeville highway on wednesday. >> the bees picked on him. when we came back here, they followed him. they attacked all of us. reporter: the victim crashed his remote control airplane near these hives. >> when he went over to pick up his plane, the bees swarmed him. reporter: susan kegley says after looking at this video, it's clear that this was no normal swarm. >> it's not a normal reproductive swarm. it's likely that they were associated with hives that have been moved. they don't have any place to go back to. they are angry about it. reporter: unclear what these beekeepers were doing. the victim was stung multiple times. >> the bees attacked him. >> when the crews arrived, the

bees were on and around the head, neck, chest of the patient. reporter: cpr was performed by witnesses and fire crews continued lifesaving measures after shooing the bees away which ended up saving the man. >> this is the area where the bees attacked that man. you can see all of the hives that are out there in that field. i was here six hours after the attack happened and the bees were still flying all over the place outside of my vehicle, to the point where i didn't feel it was safe to get out of the car. reporter: this beekeeper says you can't rule out africanized honeybees but those have not been found in sonoma county. still, and answered questions on why the bees were acting like this. >> if you disturbed bees, they will be angry for a little bit but not like this. reporter: j.r. stone, abc7news. ama: news out of richmond where police shot and killed a man. it happened inside a home in

point richmond. the bomb squad had to be called out after officers thought they found explosives. tim johns was there and has this update on the investigation. reporter: 10 hours after officer shot and killed a man, several neighboring houses were evacuated. the evacuations were a after police found possible live explosive inside the house. police arrived at the home around 9:00. officers were there to serve a warrant. police were looking for a suspect accused of pulling out a gun over the weekend and opening fire during some sort of fight. a spokesperson says the man was armed and officers opened fire because they feared for their lives. >> i didn't hear anything as far as a gunshot or anything. when i was in the front of the how dubs -- house upstairs, i could hear the truck. that's when i saw the ambulance and fire trucks. reporter: the investigation centered on illegal high-powered

stops in the bay area. the driver of the truck was sent to a nearby trauma center and 15 passengers suffered minor injuries. a passenger was with her son when the train came to a halt. >> out of nowhere, really severe impact. then a bunch of jolting and things flying through the air. i saw that video of a tanker five through the air. ama: a small fire ignited. a spokesperson says traffic arms did not come down before the truck crossed the railroad. it's unclear why. i'm interested in connection with a deadly shooting last friday near the pala street bart station is not going to face charges at this time. the san francisco district attorney's office referenced self dispense law and said it came to the conclusion that it would likely not be able to prove the suspect was guilty of murder. but the investigation is still

ongoing. an 18-year-old from sacramento was taken into custody in the case. san francisco police said the shooting happened after the victim gave a complement to a woman who was with the suspect. dan: new developments with the doomed tourists up to the titanic. a ship carrying debris arrived at a port in canada today. the u.s. coast guard believes it includes the remains of the five people on board who died when that sub suddenly imploded on its way to tour the wreckage of the titanic. as the first debris from the titanic sub is lifted to short, the coast guard announcing that investigators have found human remains that have been carefully recovered from the wreckage. it comes as cranes wasted large pieces of the titan wreckage with cables and wires. a panel from the exterior of the summersville along with one of the caps. >> it will take months to go through all these bits and pieces and thoroughly analyze all the failures.

ama: nasa rolled out its new moon rover. it is supposed to head into space for its lunar expedition in 2024. it will be controlled by nash ames. lauren martinez was there as wiper was put to the test. reporter: before the robot can drive safely, it's undergoing test drives on earth inside this research center in silicon valley. viper hunting robot. >> we will put people on the moon. we will build a base on the moon. we can use water that's already there. we don't have to bring it up there with us. reporter: it moves one centimeter per second and is designed for earth's gravity so

it weighs 1/6 of the rover which weighs half a ton. engineers are testing its ability to dissent from a ramp on a lunar lander. >> driving down and showing that we can get down safely. reporter: griffin lander will transfer it to the moon surface. >> the final flight build has two ramps on either side so that viper can see which ramp it might be grass or exit safely off of one tickets to the -- lunar surface. reporter: the mission is to explore the moons south pole. it will drill and collect samples of waterice. >> we will bring it into the sun. it evaporates quickly and we will measure what comes off of that. it's mostly ice but there's a lot of things in there. it tells us a lot of science about the moon and what has built up there. reporter: nasa's first robotic moon rover. instead of astronauts, drivers will be navigating it from a building on this campus. >> sometimes the sun goes down and we will have to park the rover and put it in hibernation

pandemic. >> all you need to do is have one or two people nearby that breathe that in, get infected. as we know from covid, one person becomes two becomes five. dan: officials expect to have three million square feet of lab space coming into the city but it will not be used for high risk lab levels. ama: madonna's upcoming celebration tour has been postponed because of a severe bacterial infection. it was expected to kick off in vancouver on july 15. madonna's manager wrote on his instagram today that the singer has been in the hospital for several days. she was rushed to the icu after being found unresponsive on saturday. her manager says she's under medical care but is expected to make a full recovery. the source of the infection isn't clear. from what's been publicized, the singers recovery sounds promising. >> it sounds like madonna responded quite quickly so a full recovery is certainly possible. that recovery might take weeks

to months. ama: a new start date for her tour has not been announced. dan: president biden has recently started using a cpap machine to treat sleep apnea. after indentations were seen on his face, officials confirm the president did in fact start using a machine in the last few weeks. 30 million americans are known to be affected by sleep apnea which can lead to other health risks. the president has a documented history of dealing with the condition dating back to 2008. cpap machines use air pressure to improve breathing during sleep. ama: let's get into tonight's abc 7 news advancer. away we like to get you ahead of some stories you will be seeing more of in the days to come. california reparations task force will rollout its final report tomorrow. the report is the first of its kind in the entire nation. it will cover the states role in racism against african-american residents and lingering effects
