inland areas. let's take a look at the high temperatures for today. 102 in livermore. 105 in fairfield. not yet the coast. we had the fog around. we are holding onto warmth earlier today. inland in the 70's and 80's. heat advisory until 11:00 sunday for a limb end -- all inland areas. high temperatures will be in the mid 100s for the hottest spots. here's your next 24 hours. morning fog. temperatures will rapidly rise. noontime, 90's inland. soaring to the triple digits. this isn't where you're temperatures actually end up. i will be back to let you know when you will get a break this holiday weekend, coming up. dion: in east

scorcher for those who decided to start their holiday weekend at the alameda county fair. for those who went tonight and sweated it out, they got treated to an early fourth of july fireworks and drum show. here's tim johns. reporter: the temperatures were in the triple digits when we arrived at the alameda county fair earlier today. a lot of the people we talked to said they had a plan to stay cool and they wouldn't let the heat ruin their holiday weekend. it was a busy friday night at the alameda county fair. people coming out from all over the bay area to start their fourth of july weekend. >> we come to the fair every year. it's been a family tradition. my grandmother always brought us. reporter: the heatwave is supposed to last for several days. >> it's a lot. first heatwave of the summer and it's intense. reporter: people won't let the rising temperatures stop them from having fun. many of the water rides were packed. some choosing to go on more than

once. >> at least 10. reporter: they were only one draw friday night though. after the sunset, there was a firework and drum show, the biggest one that organizers have ever done. >> last year, it was 100 drones. reporter: the fireworks bring out crowds every fourth of july. a lot of folks are just as excited to see the drones. not only physical technology but also because they are a safer way to enjoy the holiday. >> wildfires are a big risk. luckily we are escaping the smoke from the canadian wildfires. i'm hoping we can keep that going. reporter: the fair will be open to visitors saturday, sunday, monday from noon until 11:00 and then again on the fourth of july from noon until 8:00. tim johns, abc7news. dion: in the north bay, the marin county fair opened today in the heat. they return full-scale for the

first time since 2019 which means indoor air conditioned exhibit halls are open. temperatures reached nearly 90 degrees today in san rafael. that didn't stop the lines to kick off the fair today. >> we did bring our umbrella. we made sure to put on sunscreen. we have caps. we have a portable fan for a breeze. >> a guy took the bandana an coded it in water. i tried it. it works pretty good. dion: that's a good idea. fair organizers are doing their part to make sure people stay cool. water stations are set throughout the fair grounds to keep people hydrated. there are still a handful of bay area cities that allow snd sane fireworks. the cities are here on the map. newark, gilroy, san bruno, rio vista, sisson city, cloverdale. if you are looking for fourth of

july events, head to our website . we have a list of parades and fireworks along with displays and celebrations all listed for you. crews battled flames from the ground and air in the north bay today. they put out a grass fire that flared up this afternoon outside of petaluma. it burned through grass and brush near san antonio road and d street. several buildings were threatened. 24 acres burned in total. firefighters are staying on the scene to contain the fire and put out hotspots. new developments now with a huge fire in san jose that raced through dozens of storage units across but -- a couple weeks ago. two people are under arrest and tens of thousands of pounds of illegal fireworks have been confiscated. southbay reporter lauren martinez spoke to some of the people who lost everything in the fire. reporter: the investigation into an explosive fire in san jose storage let authorities to

uncover a number of crimes. on june 14, a storage unit had a large amount of fireworks that caught fire. the fire was so intense that it burned the entire building including everything inside. two weeks into theinvestigatione arrested two suspects after seizing 38,000 poullal fireworks with an estimated value of $2 million. >> they were taken out from additional storage units that did not catch fire or else the devastation could have been more tremendous. reporter: this fire chief said 38,000 pounds of illegal fireworks is enough to level a building or bring one down. a massive amount now off southbay streets. >> it's the largest in san jose and one of the largest in california. >> that's insane. not just people getting fireworks for themselves. that's a whole operation. reporter: bryce's family had everything in their storage unit because they were weeks away from moving.

he visits the facility every other day to see if he can salvage anything. >> her baby pictures, ultrasound pictures, everything was in there. reporter: the fire destroyed 40 to 50 storage units. the thought of fireworks or the smell of something burning is now a trigger for so many others affected by the fire. >> i didn't lose a life. my loved ones are safe. it doesn't really take away the pain of losing things that you worked so hard for, that you can never get back. reporter: while the actual cause of the fire is still unknown, investigators are continuing their work after searching more storage units and several homes. police seized over 13 ounces of math, 200 grams of cocaine, and one semiautomatic firearm. lauren martinez, abc7news. dion: another illegal fireworks seizure in the east bay. dublin police confiscated over 300 pounds of illegal fireworks

and one handgun. only safe and sane fireworks are legal in dublin. several pivotal decisions out of the supreme court. yesterday, they struck down affirmative action, declaring race cannot be a factor in deciding college admissions. the ruling by the courts conservative majority centered around admissions policies at harvard and the university of north carolina. today came to more rulings. one rejected president biden's plan to wipe out more than $400 million in college loan debt. another sided with the colorado web designer who refused to make websites for same-sex wedding's. lawmakers are taking matters now into their own hands in response to the supreme court's la marque rulings. as tara campbell reports, we can expect to see even more pushback as we head into an election year. reporter: the supreme court with three landmark rulings in just two days. thursday, ending affirmative action. friday, limiting protections for

lgbtq+ couples. the high court also striking down president biden's student loan forgiveness plan. the former dean of the university of san francisco school of law. >> the court is telling congress or the president, they went too far. they don't get the last word though. reporter: president biden firing back. >> we need to find a new way. we are moving as fast as we can. first, i'm announcing today a new path consistent to provide student debt relief to as many borrowers as possible as quickly as possible. >> congress can enact legislation. that will get around and consistent with the supreme court. reporter: that's exactly what the president is trying to do. >> this new path will take longer but is legally sound. it's the best path that remains. reporter: lawmakers on the others of the aisle are saying the decision is back in the proper political hands. >> from our perspective, this

issue is now where it belonged originally, congress. that branch, closest to the people, is equipped and empowered to be able to try to solve this particular question. reporter: as the country heads into an election year, expect more political posturing. >> there is the immediate reaction of, we will undo wha the people supreme court did of the other party. we will take action. reporter: the supreme court likely to become a campaign topic with talks of term limits and expanding the court. >> absolutely. the supreme court's credibility among a lot of people is low right now. again, it's because of the people who lose out of the supreme court, the people who feel the other side is in control are going to say, let's change it. reporter: abc7news. dion: count them down. it's been 23 years since the

his start in show business as a musician. in his 20's, he was the lead singer of a folk group. they popularized the banana boat song. he was nominated for several awards for his role in the netflix series the kaminski method. tomorrow marks 30 years since the 101 california shooting that left eight people dead in what's known to be the deadliest mass shooting in san francisco history. it happened at a law firm at 10. it sparked gun-control legislation nationwide. lena howland spoke with a survivor about that tragic day. reporter: before the route 66 music festival shooting, the polls nightclub massacre, and the uvalde school shooting came one california. >> there was a man walking towards us. he walked up to the young man right in front of us and shot him. reporter: michelle, visiting her husband at the pettit and martin law firm for the day, remembers

running back into an office to hide. >> john was laying on top of me, trying to protect me. i remember just looking up and seeing the gunmen shoot, looking up and seeing the barrel of the gun, then putting my head down until the shooting stopped. reporter: she took five bullets. before she could get on the phone with 911 operators. >> john said, michelle, i'm dying, i love you. reporter: the shooter killed eight people including her husband before turning the gun on himself. >> when our incident happened 30 years ago, it was big news. now unfortunately, it seems like it's become part of our landscape. reporter: in the years that followed the shooting, she mobilized with the victims families and other shooting survivors to demand stricter gun control on a state and federal level. >> legislation that came out of the passion and dedication from

the survivors of 101 california was very powerful. reporter: the brady bill was passed which established america's federal background check system for gun sales. later, a 10 year assault weapons ban was passed through congress. it expired in 2004. >> on the national level, it's worse than it was 30 years ago. i really think that we have to wake up and put child locks on guns, safe storage on guns mandatory background checks, get rid of these high-capacity magazines. reporter: lena howland, abc7news. dion: openai's chatgpt is being sued for copyright infringement and invasion of privacy. a suit filed in federal court claims the program's of data across the internet is copy infringement and theft. the case is thought to be one of the first of its kind.

openai has not commented on the lawsuit. united airlines ceo is facing back last after his actions during a travel nightmare for united customers. scott kirby flew from new jersey to denver aboard a private jet. all while thousands of united travelers were stranded due to canceled flights. kirby took off not far from newark liberty international which is united's largest hub in the center of the meltdown. he issued an apology today, saying his actions were the wrong decision and insensitive to customers waiting to get home. san jose's oldest tourist attraction is reaching a big milestone. the winchester mystery house is celebrating its centennial as museum. on this day 100 years 30, 1923. the winchester mystery house officially opened its doors to the public. the home dates back to the 1800s when sarah mentioned -- winchester began a construction project that lasted for decades.
