with your accuweather forecast for what we can be expecting going into the fourth of july. spencer: the good news is those triple digits will be going into the 90's. let me give you a quick look at the high temperatures. we had several locations reaching triple digits. but the good news is things will be cooling down as we head to the fourth of july. right now, we are looking at temperatures inland in the 70's. low to mid 60's around the bay shoreline. here is tomorrow's planner, the 24 hour planner. 7:00 a.m., partly cloudy skies, lingering clouds. temperatures in the 50's. warming up to about 80. late afternoon as we are approaching high temperatures, low 90's in the warmest inland locations. no more triple digits. upper 70's around the bay, mid 60's at the coast. when the sunsets, temperatures in the mid-60's. upper 50's on the coast. i will have your seven-day forecast a little bit later. j.r.: that blast of summer heat

spread wide, as you can see from our east bay camera, north to san rafael and to san jose. while many found fun ways to cope with the heat, it also led to big problems for others. tonight, we mean power outages. pg&e says there are now more than 10,000 families and businesses without power. just about all of them in contra costa county. you are looking at the live outage map right now with those orange boxes indicating severe blackouts. things are slowly improving. about 1000 customers have gotten power back on within the past couple of hours. certainly good news right there. it looks like all of san ramon has their power back after being without it since yesterday afternoon. a kfc in town showed us were hours away from having to trash their food.

tonight, the orchids at walnut creek shopping center was filled with businesses and restaurants that looked like a ghost town with closures. these folks at a brewery described it. >> we were hanging out here, having a beer, then all of a sudden the power went out. i wonder, is the heat causing the power outages? i don't know, but it is crazy how all of a sudden the power went out, and everybody freaked out. nothing crazy, but at the same time, we wonder, what is going on? >> i get it, there is 100 degrees heat. i am from england. you don't get this stuff in england. but you get this in walnut creek all the time, so we did not know why the power was out. j.r.: tonight, more than 3000 pg&e customers were impacted by outages. most of downtown was fully in the dark. out in hercules, we saw a small grass fire start up right by the waterfront. but this was not just from the heat. fire investigators say the initial evidence shows fireworks

sparked this three acre fire sometime around 2:30 today. firefighters were able to get it out before the flames got out of hand. it is always the fire concern this time of year. you already might be hearing some fireworks shoot off in your neighborhood tonight. cornell barnard went to san bruno, where they have safe and sane fireworks. crews there are on high alert. cornell: francisco shows us what her family bought at these fireworks stands in san bruno to celebrate july 4. she says it is all about safety with lighting them off. >> nowhere near the grasp. nowhere near anything. >> a bucket of water, fire extinguisher close by. >> always popular are the packages, which are fountains shooting up about yea high. cornell: vendors are dizzy selling safe and sane fireworks -- are busy selling safe and

sane fireworks. >> the funds we raise help us give camperships to kids who cannot afford to pay. >> it is something our community depends on to raise funds in a short amount of time. cornell: san bruno voters oked the sale a few years ago. >> the things that wake people up at night are the illegal fireworks. cornell: warning signs clearly posted about san bruno's zero tolerance for illegal fireworks, including fines of $5,000 if you are caught. san bruno fire mar -- the san bruno fire marshal examines the stand daily. >> the only legal spot is your property. you cannot go to public parking lots, you cannot go to parks. cornell: san bruno is one of a few cities still allowing the sale of fireworks. other cities and counties have banned them. contra costa fire this week

health programs, and job training. tara campbell hit the streets today and has more on how it might work. tara: the goal is to get drug users off the streets and into treatment. san francisco police making 70 71 arrests in the past month as part of the mayor's crackdown on the open-air drug market. >> none of the people they have arrested have accepted treatment. what do you think of that? >> it is a hard drug to beat, fentanyl. it is crazy. tara: this is the executive director of the project, a nonprofit helping people on the streets, including drug users. >> arresting our way out of this has never worked in the past. why would it work today? tara: yet starting monday, the city is getting tougher on people arrested for drug use or possession. those cited twice will now face what is dubbed drug court, where they can for goad jail time in exchange for treatment. joe says he has been there for a couple of years. >> i am supposed to check my sub

into treatment last week. -- i was supposed to check myself into treatment last week. it is hard. i have done treatment a couple of times, but it was always from jail. checking yourself in his rough. -- is rough. tara: the city was previously forcing people into drug court after three arrests. the district attorney saying enforcement is a mechanism to get people into treatment. it is new for us and will take time to catch on, but we are committed to address the crisis we are seeing on our streets. but princeton fears this type of enforcement could make the crisis worse. >> it will drive people underground. we will expect what will happen is more people will die because they will be less visible. >> i will use her and my friends because i feel safe around my friends.

are encouraging people who go outside to stay hydrated. >> i see a lot of dehydration. reena: at the jersey shore, people flocking to the beach to beat the heat. and where it is raining, it is not exactly a welcome relief. a torrential downpour hitting chicago. up to three inches of rain falling, stranding drivers, delaying trains, forcing interstates to close. it also halted the completion of saturday's nascar xfinity series race in downtown chicago. the city has had more rain this weekend than may or june combined. reena roy, abc news, new york. j.r.: bad weather still putting a damper on thousands of passengers plans trying to fly to their destinations for the fourth of july weekend. according to the website flightaware, thousands of flights have experienced delays, while nearly 600 were canceled today. strong storms from the rockies, the midwest, and the mid-atlantic are to blame. united airlines has experienced the brunt of the chaos with

canceled flights and delays. aaa predicted that travel this holiday weekend is set to break records. a labor strike is now underway in los angeles and orange county. thousands of hotel workers walked off the job today. workers are demanding better benefits and higher wages from their employers. hotels will remain open with management and other nonunion staff filling in until an agreement is reached. union officials say their members earn $25 to $25 an hour, but negotiators are asking for an immediate five dollars an hour raise, along with other health benefits. the july 4 holiday weekend brought crowds of visitors to the beach in pacifica, despite the winds. it did not stop people from enjoying the sun and watching the waves. >> we always go to the beach together. so we came out. sleeves.

>> the water is always fun and the beach is exciting. so let's enjoy the water and some cold breeze and fresh air. it is a must. san francisco, you come to san francisco and you don't visit a beach? it would be incomplete. j.r.: pacifica is one of the few bay area cities that remained cool today, with temperatures only reaching the mid 60's. spencer christian joins us now. a lot of jealous people are out there inland thinking, i could go for some about whether. spencer: many inland people were headed for the beach today, and rightfully so. we had temperatures 100 in many areas. but it is tapering off now. let's take a look back at some of today's high temperatures. yesterday, we had more numerous locations at or above 100 degrees. we had 405 today, places like concord, fairfield, cloverdale, and ukiah.

the 24 hour temperature change shows the cooling is already underway. most locations are 4, 5, or more degrees cooler than they were this time last night. let's take a look toward the bay bridge, the column bay waters -- calm bay waters. it to upper 60's at mountain view. 54 at half moon bay. here's the view from emeryville. a little bit of fog and low clouds will be building along the coastline overnight. 64 degrees at santa rosa and napa. 61 at novato. mid to upper 70's in concord and livermore. one more live view from our rooftop camera looking at the calm. these are the forecast headlines. the inland heat eases tomorrow. further cooling tuesday under sunny skies for the fourth of july. a cooler pattern will develop in the week. starting at midnight,

fog developing at the coastline pushing across the bay, and there will be lots of drizzle along the coast. some of it will likely move on shore. early morning commuters may encounter a few damp spots as there will be patchy drizzle in the early morning hours. but most of the day will be sunday after midmorning tomorrow. overnight low temperatures will be on the mild side, mainly in the upper 50's to mid 60's, especially inland. antioch, 66. livermore, 63. it will be pretty warm. if you want air conditioning, -- if you have air conditioning, you may want to use it tonight. tomorrow, not extreme like the heat we have had. low to mid 90's inland at fairfield. in the north bay, mainly 80's will be the highs. on the coast, we will see low 60's. as we skip ahead to tuesday, the cooling continues. only mid to upper 80's inland. wednesday, cooler still. thursday, cooler still with

inland highs of the mid to upper 70's, right around the bay shoreline mid 60's. here is the accuweather 7-day forecast. this is basically a week of continued cooling through the end of the week. in fact, the temperature range friday to saturday will bear no rezai bloods to what we have had the last few days -- will bear no resemblance to what we have seen the last few days. we have temperatures barely reaching 80 degrees. upper 50's on the coast. those are the days when people will be leaving the coast to go inland, as opposed to this weekend when they were leaving the inland areas to go to the coast. j.r.: if they want to see fireworks, best bet to go inland? spencer: best bet is to go inland. we have a little fog developing tuesday evening. it will not be a deep marine layer. in san francisco near the coast, you might be able to see the fireworks. they might be obscured a little bit by some thin fog. j.r.: i am a fog fireworks fan. colored fog, i love it. spencer: it is good. j.r.:

j.r.: a favorite among jazz music lovers wrapped up this afternoon in san francisco's fillmore district. ♪ j.r.: they are streets over the return of the fillmore jazz festival, the largest free jazz fest on the west coast. the festival draws thousands of visitors onto a long stretch of fillmore street each fourth of july weekend. the festival is back for the first time since the start of the pandemic. it is providing a boost to small businesses in the area. >> people are so happy. they are coming, they are watching, they are enjoying the music, the weather, the study. i am so happy to see all of

this. j.r.: great times, but this year's production is a little smaller than years past, taking up eight blocks along fillmore instead of the usual 12 blocks, as organizers slowly ramp back up after the pandemic. a bear who has become an international icon is celebrating a milestone. dozens of fans lined up at the crossing in san francisco's rincon hill for a chance to snap up a limited edition real a kuma merchandise. that is a character featured on everything from stationery to keychains and plush teddy bears, as part of a 20th anniversary tour. fans have the opportunity to purchase items at six locations this summer, including today in san francisco. we are getting closer to the start of the nfl's training camp and season, and it looks like quarterback brock purdy of the

>> building a better bay area. moving forward. finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. j.r.: it is what we all fel outside, and the story behind this holiday weekend, we are talking about the bay area heat wave sitting over most of the region. you are looking live from our live cam at sfo tonight as the attention turns to those july 4 plans. let's get another quick check of your forecast from spencer christian. any relief in sight from those hot temperatures? spencer: yes, that is the main answer to the question. it will be significant relief. let's take a look at the forecast headlines right now. you can see that the inland heat will ease tomorrow. there will be further cooling under sunny skies for the for the july, and much cooler weather will develop in the week. we will see the marine layer developing, pushing locally across the bay. there will be drizzle along the coast. highs tomorrow, no more triple digits. sunny skies with highs in the low 90's and the warmest inland

the shooting took place around midnight last night at a block party in the city's southern district. hundreds of people were there when witnesses say they heard 20 to 30 shots go off. an 18-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were killed. investigators say they believe more than one shooter is responsible for the attack, but no arrests have been made. >> treat this as if it were your family and this was your neighborhood, if this was an event in your community. j.r.: meantime in kansas, seven people were shot and two others trampled after a shooting inside a nightclub in wichita early this morning. one person, who is suspected of being at least one of the gunmen, was taken into custody. new at 11:00, u.s. treasury secretary janet yellen is headed to beijing later this week. her trip will be part of ongoing efforts by the biden administration to improve communications with china. yellen will be the second

cabinet member to travel to china this month, after secretary of state antony blinken in testimony before congress in april. yellen stressed the importance of maintaining ties with china. yellen will not meet with the chinese president during her trip, but biden says he hopes to meet with him soon. tesla is reporting a record spike in car sales compared to a year ago. the company says second quarter deliveries rose 83% from a year earlier. that is after cutting prices several times on its four electric vehicle models. tesla reports selling a record 466,000 vehicles worldwide from april through june, nearly doubling the number from a year ago. the vast majority of the sales were tesla's model 3 and y versions.

this is cable car 42, the one and only that used to run along a route that was discontinued years ago that included jones and hyde street's. during the first sunday of the month through october, cable car 42 will take people from the cable car museum through chinatown to aquatic park. limited time rides have cable car enthusiasts excited. >> i have been waiting about a half-hour for the 42 to come, which is one of the very originals that was built in the late 1800s. it feels like a tiny community for 20, 30 minutes when you are on the cable car. i ride the cable cars every chance i get. j.r.: every saturday through october, they are also offering people rides on the big 19, the biggest and oldest cable car. many dog owners try to multitask while walking their furry friends. but experts say that can lead to a number of issues.

fun. but today started with a more serious tone as mayors from the nation's largest cities gathered to talk about some of the biggest problems facing our communities. anchor rachel brown from our sister station in los angeles shares more. >> we have people rachel: a meeting of the minds as five of the nation's mayors gathered for a discussion at the black economic forum at essence fast. the leaders addressed some of the biggest problems facing our cities. they say homelessness and the asylum seeker crisis are threatening to undermine our nation's progress. >> all players must come up with a clear urban agenda on how we should -- the resources coming into the state find their way into the cities. that is so important. the migrant asylum-seekers issue, every mayor should lift his voice. >> i am very worried about us repeating something that happened in the 1990's, and that

is the criminalization of black folk. in the 1990's, folks were criminalized because of crack. my worry now is people will be criminalized because they are living on the streets. rachel: economic empowerment and supporting black businesses also a theme for the day. we spoke with a couple who started their own cookie company and received report from a new espn initiative, champion black businesses. how did it feel to be spotlighted as one of the champion black businesses? and what was the impact? >> it was huge. we were just so lucky because our business was still in underlay stage. we were able to apply so much of the knowledge we learned from that program. >> one of the biggest parts of being a small business owner, specifically a black business owner, is that less than 1% of black-owned businesses -- they stepped in and give us a $10,000 grant. rachel: thousands coming from

a fun night down at stanford stadium for the california classico between the earthquake and galaxy. nearly 43,000 fans treated to great soccer, and an amazing halftime performance. as for soccer, that match ended in a 2-2 draw. with oakland on the brink of losing its last professional sports franchise another team is trying to dig in its roots. many fans have been hoping a certain baseball franchise would be put up on the market for a while. as casey pratt reports, this is a different story of how two teams are trying to bring their fans into the ownership group. >> sell the team! casey: sell the team has become a popular refrain in oakland. the roots and soul thought, why not? >> the oakland resume soul club will create a community around, which means members of the public and community will be able to invest in the club as
