solutions, this is abc 7 news. kumasi: is dead in alameda county with the shooting involving the sheriff's deputy. and we are on the way to the scene with the very latest. julian: celebrating the fourth of july holiday by hitting the slopes. those from the bay area heading to tahoe to ski for the fourth of july. kumasi: an animal control officer helped rescue this bird who got trapped in san francisco. julian: it is mond kumasi: we want to know more about this forecast. drew: it is hot. not as hot today, but we have a live look from the camera showing you the cloud cover. not a staggering layer this morning.

numbers in and then inland we are 60's low 70's. hour-by-hour we show you with the fog along the immediate coast line. the warmest cities inland go into the 90's. and 70's and 80's around the shoreline. we take a closer look at these temperatures with cooler weather and we will check back soon. a monday holiday. a lot of those have to work today. we are checking the commute from the e short freeway. we have reports of a fire eastbound of i 80 on the right hand shoulder. i do not see smoke or slowing. a heads up if you see an emergency crew there. 25 minute ride from hercules all the way through the toll plaza to san francisco. no metering lights and it is

smooth sailing. just a few brake lights as you make it right toward the san francisco side getting off at folsom street. otherwise you are in good shape. kumasi: developing news in east bay one person has been killed after an alameda county sheriff's deputy open fire during a traffic stop. they say this all started in chp started following a car that was speeding on eastbound i -- interstate 580. it exited at 160 four ave. and then it crashed. -- 160 four ave and then it --164 avenue and then it crashed. the person got out of the car and started to run and two of those people got in a struggle with a chp officer and tried to harm him. this is according to the sheriff deputy. the chp officer fire during the struggle and one of the suspects were killed.

two others were arrested. the other is inspected to be ok. we will track the story and give you more information as we get it. julian: we feel the heat across the bay area. coping with the heat, it led to problems with others. pg&e said more than 11,000 customers were without power over the weekend. a lot -- things are a lot better now. there are a couple green dots on the outage map representing fewer than 50 people in the dark at this hour. and scattered dots in the east bay right now. kumasi: it looks like all san marone -- has power without being -- being without it said saturday. that is a kfc showing us they were hours away from having to throw away all of their food. the walnut creek shopping center was filled with businesses and restaurants that looked like a ghost town with all the closures. and those that mike brewery

they do not have a suspect right now but there is an official fireworks show tomorrow night for the fourth of july holiday but it isn't we are if the fire will affect show. in hercules we saw a small grass fire starting by the waterfront yesterday. not just because of the heat, fire investigators say the initial evidence show fireworks sparked the three acre fire around 2:30 yesterday afternoon. luckily, firefighters were able to get this out before the flames got out of hand. the police department will have extra releasers -- resources today to prosecute sideshows, and they say if you are caught, you could have your car on hold for 30 days. and they hope to punish spectators with a $100,000 fine or jail time. they hold a second final vote in their meeting on tuesday. kumasi: new this morning, at least four people were hurt in

-- when a building exploded in downtown tokyo. police got the call early this morning and when they got there they saw shattered does and smoke spewing from the building. they believe the lit cigarette on the building second floor may have caused the whole thing. there may have been a gas leak at that time as well. julian: 75 million americans from organic to georgia art -- oregon to georgia are under a heat alert. people have been flocking to the beach to beat the heat. and cooling centers have been opened in atlanta, georgia. the heat has been blamed for 14 deaths in the south. they -- the first responders are encouraging those going outdoors to drink water. >> have you ever experienced he like this before? >> no. >> there's a lot of dehydration. julian: in other parts of the country it is not the heat that is causing concern, a downpour in chicago, leaving drivers stranded. trains were -- interstates

workload -- forced to close because of that. there is a nascar race on saturday, and the city of chicago has more rain this weekend than them out of may and june combined. kumasi: a live look right now at sfo. all of the weather is causing issues for people trying to get to where they are trying to go for the fourth of july weekend. according to the flight website, flightaware, there's already more than 12,000 delays today and 500 canceled flights. and storms through the rockies and midwest and even the mid atlantic are to blame. and the airlines are seeing the brunt of the issues that could be a problem for those in the bay area. aaa predicted that those in travel this holiday weekend and it will break records. julian: a lot of us are thinking about hitting the beach today, others are thinking about hitting the slopes instead. there are individuals going to lake tahoe this morning.

julian: this is a video you have to see. a crack in a support beam forced a north carolina park to close its roller coaster. the park closes the tallest, fastest, longest coaster in north america. it crosses north and south carolina. the park says safety is its top priority and the ride will undergo inspection and repairs. the person holding this cell phone spotted the giant crack.

kumasi: welcome back. if you're planning a trip to southern california in the next few days, 15,000 employees in hotels in the area are on strike. the workers union says they have been in talks since april. the employees make anywhere from

$20-20 five dollars an hour and they are asking for a five dollar an hour raise and health benefits and a safe workload. >> during the pandemic we are called essential workers and now that there is no pandemic employers think we are not essential anymore and they think can run without us but wheel no that is not true. kumasi: marriott released a statement saying we remain committed working towards a fair labor agreement and meanwhile have well-established articles in place to operate our hotels and take care of guest in any event of lack of staffing. julian: volunteers help dismantled the iconic pink triangle at the top of twin peaks over the weekend. one of the organizers said they thought about leaving it up for a few more days because of the supreme court ruling because of the lgbtq plus community. >> the supreme court yesterday demonstrates why we still have to have that up on twin peaks. julian: the pink triangle was once used two brand people

drive. highway 24 is looking great westbound all the way into oakland. 580 up and over the ultima westbound is also green as you move into dublin. julian: 6:21 we want to get you back to the developing news where a person was shot -- dad and a chp officer is hurt after an overnight shooting. our reporter is joining us live from the scene. she just got their moments ago. amanda: yeah, we are 63rd and liberty in ashland, right as we got to the scene, we saw there were two separate locations which were taped off. both are connected to the incident that happened earlier this morning, but still very active with both the chp and alameda county sheriff's. i will turn so you can see that activity going on now. that alameda county sheriff's office confirm one suspect is dead and two other people detained. as you mention, one chp officer

was hurt, but is expected to be ok. suffering injuries from a small scuffle with the suspect. we are told the officer was following a car on eastbound 580. the car was said to be stolen. the driver exited on 60 4th avenue in ashland --164th ashland. some got out of the car and started running. at least two of the men struggled with the officer. the sheriff's office described the office tried -- they try to disarm the officer. the chp officer and a sheriff's deputy fired shots but at this point, it is unclear of the rounds hit the suspect. as i mentioned, live. still plenty to go through as i told you, the incident spans two separate scenes. along 163 much of the activity down 163. we will take a walk down there

san bruno. all of them are nonprofits. >> what we raise here is to help us give camper ship to those who cannot afford it. >> it is something our community depends on to raise funds in a short amount of time. julian: a fire marshal inspects the fireworks stands daily. the safety warnings are clearly posted around and the active setting off of illegal fireworks could bring a fine of $5,000 if you get caught. kumasi: kumasi: starting today a new -- strategy goes into effect to stop illegal drug use in san francisco. anyone arrested for drug use or possession a second time will be sent to a drug ordered where they can forgo jail time -- in exchange for treatment, mental health care, and job training. they say they say that will force people into drug ordered after five arrests. the number dropped from three now it is down to two. one nonprofit on the streets as this enforcement could make it

worse. it will drive people underground. >> i expect will happen is that more people will die of overdose because are going to be less physical. kumasi: they say enforcement as a mechanism to get people into treatment is new for us and will take time to catch on, but we are committed to doing our part to address the crisis we are seeing on the streets. abc 7 is looking at potential solutions to the drug crisis. reporter tara campbell traveled to canada to look at the first ever safe drug injection site. she put together a documentary about the experience called injecting hope. you can watch it on our abc 7 bay area streaming tv app. julian: police are investigating to mass shootings. we start in baltimore, police announced in baltimore, police announced an $8,000 award or information leading to an arrest of the shooting that killed two people and hurt 30 others. it took around -- took place

around midnight saturday in a block party in the southern district. witnesses say that they heard 20-30 gunshot go off. an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old man were -- an 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were killed. they believe one shooter is responsible for the attack but no arrest have been made. >> treat this as if it was your family, your neighborhood, an event in your community. julian: in kansas, police say seven people were shot and two others trampled after a shooting at a nightclub in wichita early yesterday morning. one person suspected of being on of the gunman was taken into custody. kumasi: more migrants from texas are now in los angeles. this is the second bus to arrive from the southern border after greg abbott announced his statement to sending migrants to the city. 41 asylum-seekers percent and saturday they were welcome by a network of nonprofit and immigrant right roots. they say they will likely be in this area for a while.

>> the immigration court system is backlogged. in los angeles there are 100,000 open cases. because of that, court dates can be pushed out. the first one can be several months from now. kumasi: los angeles mayor karen says her mass -- her office immediately works to assist the migrants on their arrival. julian: there are new a at -- new allegations against former president donald trump. sources confirm that he pressured arizona governor at the time to overturn the state 2020 election results. this was first reported by the washington post. they say he asked former president mike pence to pressure this governor for fraud that did not exist. he did not came to the pressure and pence is team has declined to comment on the claims. >> this morning members of lgbtq community on both sides of the political aisle are criticizing

the supreme court ruling as a use of race as a factor in college admissions -- admissions as only 95% approve overruling, there is only -- and division in racial groups on this group was white and asian people approve of that division and only 60% while 65% -- 25% of black people support this. back to the developing news with alameda county. one person is dead after a police shooting during a traffic stop overnight. this happened on 163 avenue near calypso court. and we have a reporter joining us live from the scene. you are learning more information about what is happening. amanda: yeah, if the residents did not wake up overnight to the gunshots, they are certainly waking up to the scene this morning with chp and alameda county sheriff deputies on scene still now for hours. we want to get to the earlier

video describing exactly what happened. alameda county sheriff's office confirmed one suspect's dad, to others arrested. at least one chp officer was hurt, but is expected to be ok after a scuffle with suspects. we are told the officer was following a car on eastbound 580, the car was said to be stolen in the car exited at 164 th and ashland. it crashed. in alameda county. three men got out of the car and started running. two of the men at least drago with the chp officer. the office described as suspect says trying to disarm the officer. >> one of the suspects was trying to disarm the chp officer. what i can tell you is that shots were fired. we have one deceased and to custody. we are trying to work out the details of what all to lace --

place. the suspects were wearing ski masks when the deputy arrived on the scene. there was a period of time where we only knew that there were two suspects, the two that were fighting with officer. one, when shots were fired, one took off. and with the use of our drones, we got a heat source in the immediate area that told us one person was still hiding in the area. amanda: we are officer and a sheriff's deputy fired shots. at this point, it is unclear if the round hit the suspect. and out live, there are two different scenes connected with the incident. one right off of the x that were re-asked wayne there was a rash -- one right off of the exit where there was a crash. and in the distance, you can see that officers are collecting evidence putting together what

oh man, it is a lovely day. here's a live look with the cloud cover over the city right now. we have clouds on the coastal day today. looking at the high today, you can see we will go into the 90's and the warmest pot inland. 70's and 8 -- warmest spot inland. 70's and 80's. no overnight the marine layer will grow and the temperatures will drop into the 50's. let's talk about the forecast for fireworks. as we head into tomorrow evening, the marine your will of the coast line. cloudy on the entire coast. it will likely be cloudy over the city as well. we have cloud cover in parts of the east bay shoreline like alameda and emeryville. temperatures by 9:00 tomorrow evening not too bad in the 50's and 60's.
