7:38 am
bunker fish and baitfish that were at that location. that's what we see happening. the larger fish, the sharks are coming closer to shore, and when these bites occur, they are mistaking them for food, baitfish or bunker fish. so that's why we are seeing an increase, and we believe it to be the new normal that sharks will be coming closer to shore now. the water temperatures, in addition to the baitfish, that's what's doing it, so we are reacting to that, again, to keep the swimmers as safe as we can. >> so, if this is the new normal, what advice do you have for beachgoers? >> basically, only swim wear where lifeguards are on duty. they are there to protect you. they are watching over the waters. they are making sure you are safe. only swim in those areas. when you are out swimming, don't go into murky water or water where you see bubbles, where you see baitfish. because that's where, in all likelihood, the sharks will come. again, they'll mistake you for food, basically. and then, swim with a buddy.
