conventions will account for over 663,000 hotel room nights in 2023. >> morning for passengers on board a cruise ship in the san francisco bay. any on the ruby princess experienced what the coast guard calls a hard landing when the ship bumped into the dock. from the peer. she spent the day talking to passengers who felt the impact. that ship is still behind you. > it is still there. there are thousands of passengers on the ruby princess. they have been here since 11:30 or so and they are waiting for their vacation to begin but there is no telling when the cruise ship is going to leave. it was supposed to leave two hours ago. a lot of those passengers that got onto the boat saw the damage done to the boat. i did not stop them from boarding. -- that did not stop them from

boarding. take a look at the damage done to the ruby princess cruise ship. what do you think? >> concerning. >> it looks pretty ugly. >> despite the visible damage done earlier this morning, there were long lines this afternoon for travelers to get back on the same ship on for alaska. around 6:00 morning passengers say the ship had a hard landing at pier 27 in san francisco. >> you just feel that your room was moving to the left into the right. >> it was a rough landing. >> paul was also on the cruise ship. >> i noticed we were spinning pretty quick to be that close to the dock and i was midship portside. looked out the window and we smacked into the dog. >> the ship operator told us ship made unexpected contact with the dock claiming there were no injuries and no one was ever in any danger. the ship wrapped up a 10 day cruise to alaska with more

determined at half an hour ago we heard a couple of announcements over the loudspeaker. we are not clear what time the ship could be leaving and why the departure has been delayed. we are live at pier 27. >> the cruise ship watch continues. we reached out to sf port authorities but they did not comment about what happened at the port. and in the meantime we are learning more about the ruby princess pilot. we continue our team coverage with melanie woodrow. >> in some ways this is an elite group. there are not many bar pilots. just more than 50 at the moment with four trainees in the pipeline according to the board of pilot commissioners executive director. an investigation into what went wrong with the ruby princess during docking at san francisco's pier 27 this morning is in the early fact-finding phase. >> it appears the port qua of the ruby princess made contact with pier 27. >> coast guard wood is assisting in the investigation said the pilot as being drug and

this is one way to stay on top of breaking news as it comes into the abc7news room. >> two people were killed in separate incidents on caltrain tracks today. most recent incident happened when a pedestrian was struck the south down train at east meadow drive in palo alto. 68 passengers were on the train. no one was injured on board. another person died when they were hit overnight in mountain view. the two fatalities bring the total number of deaths on caltrain tracks this year to four. we are of any more about the injuries caused by fireworks during the fourth of july holiday weekend in san francisco. officials at zuckerberg general hospital said they received six patients with fireworks related injuries between july 1 and fourth. five patients are in serious condition for one patient was discharged. they include blast injuries to hands and eyes >> i the south bay police recovered 40,000 pounds of illegal fireworks ahead of the holiday weekend. that is among the largest halls of a little fireworks ever seized in the state.

police say two separate investigations led to the biggest busts. one of those investigations was in north san jose where a man named mark espinoza is accused of selling large amounts of illegal fireworks. police say he had 1000 pounds of those illegal fireworks in storage so the in no pitas. >> i'm not sure how he was connecting with his customers but he was distributing it throughout the bay area. they were commercial style fireworks illegal in california. >> the video you saw shows a second fireworks bus stemming from a massive fire that erupted on blossom hill road in san jose. police discovered 38,000 pounds of fireworks on june 14. police also tell as a group of fireworks enforcement officers issued 11 criminal citations for the use or possession of illegal fireworks on july 4. >> coming up, a post-pandemic first in san francisco. glide brings its free male

>> in the north bay some missing pieces of history have been returned to a landmark cemetery where some of california's first settlers are buried the recovery of the long missing tombstones is a significant find for the volunteers maintaining the graveyard. cornell barnard has details on where they were found. >> this one is cleaning up really good. >> volunteers are revealing someone forgotten history and three inside santa rosa's real cemetery where many of california's early pioneers are laid to rest. >> we could not have read this before and this is rebecca fulkerson. she was born in 1818. >> the first burial took place in 1854 but over the years many tombstones broke or went missing. >> we don't often get stones back in this area when i was a boy people would take the stones home. they would use them for landscaping in their backyards.

they would use them for bookends in their homes. >> imagine the jonathan and his cemetery crew got a call regarding some long-lost tombstones. >> we figured we would never get those back and we get this call and recover these tombstones that are almost perfect. >> three tombstones and eight foot stone suddenly recovered. >> this is a headstone of george locke. >> he says the stones were discovered by homeowner inside the garage. they had likely been there for 30 years. he said the person's name will stay anonymous. >> we are happy to get them back. as i say they had all the best intentions. they were not stolen. they were taken and then forgotten. >> the work to a restore the missing marble has begun. >> we are going to place that stone together. >> volunteers believe there are many more missing headstones. some where in the committee.

>> oakland police chicago to arrest a man suspect of killing someone who is just delivering flowers in oakland. he is accused o and killing mathew guide us on 26th street. police believe he is the man walking some dogs and then arguing with him just before the shooting. police were previously searching for a woman who had been walking with the shooter. investigators say she is no longer considered a person of interest. >> san francisco police are asking for your help identifying the person who assaulted in 83-year-old man in the u.n. plaza area last month peered the men suffered broken bones in the june 20 attack. here's a closer look at a few photos of the attacker. police say the person is a man between the age of 35 to 45 with light colored hair. if you know this person, san francisco police would like to hear from you.

>> today marks 10 years since the deadly airlines crash at san francisco international airport. the boeing 777x slammed into a runway seawall while trying to land. there were 290 one passengers and 16 crew members. three passengers died in the crash including a teenager from china was run over by two airport firetrucks after the crash. federal investigators blame the three pilot saying they flew to low and too slow. the company behind the submersible that imploded on a voyage to the titanic has suspended all operations. ocean gate ceo was among the victims on board the titan. all five passengers were presumed killed when the sub imploded two weeks ago. even though operations have ceased, ocean gaetz website still features descriptions of the expedition that offered including tours of the titanic wreckage. >> twitter is considering legal action against meta
