by the city says the system is not working once again. and the head of instagram tries to clear the air about the connection with threads that many users don't want. abc7news starts right now. >> building a better bay area. moving forward. finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. >> continues to be a royal pain for stranded passengers. the waiting game continues on board the cruise ship, which remains a doctor in san francisco. good afternoon and thank you for joining us. this ship was supposed to be in alaska by now, but a crash damaged the whole of the vessel when it was docked on thursday. a new departure date has been announced. meanwhile, those on board are trying to make the best of it. cornell bernard biz live with the latest. you have been out there for two days straight. what is the mood like this afternoon?

cornell: the mood has gone from anger and frustration to just going with the flow. the ruby princess now scheduled to depart san francisco at 4:00 p.m. on sunday, if repairs to the damaged ship are completed and approved by the coast guard. many passengers are choosing to stay on board. today, they made the best of this waiting game by exploring san francisco. >> stepped off the cruise ship for a little fun. cornell: anita took in a giants game sunday with her friends and husband, but it is not what they had planned. the group was supposed to be sailing to alaska by now on the ruby princess, which should have departed three days ago. >> now, we have decided to stay. make lemonade out of lemons. we are going to go to the giants game and play it by ear. >> we thought maybe it was a bit cursed. we were a little worried. but it is turning out well now. cornell: debbie and anita are

choosing to stay on board, which could set sail on sunday. that is when the coast guard and princess officials say repairs should be completed. the repairs are progressing. but friday, our cameras captured a large gash in the ship's hull, near the stern. sunday, the hull appeared to be sealed. >> we will miss a couple ports, but we will be compensated a certain way. i think it is a pretty good deal in how you take it. there are some things you cannot control. you just go with the flow. cornell: princess are offering passengers two options, stay on board for a shortened seven-day cruise and get a 75% refund and a 75% discount to a future voyage, or leave the ship and get a full refund at 50% off of a future cruise. >> they are not making all the stops, so it is not fulfilling what i signed up to do. cornell: they say they have had enough stress and disappointment for one trip.

they are going home. >> i feel disappointed, and i feel that our mood changed. we will do it a different time when we can get on the boat and have the cruise. >> it's all good. safety is what matters. cornell: others say they are here for the duration. >> we are all from different areas and we have already planned this. why not stay? >> you would pay a lot of money for a hotel room like this, so why not? >> and we have the drink package. -- we sent out this notification. it is one way to stay on top of breaking news as it comes into the newsroom. download the app and enable push alerts. eight boaters are recovering after a water emergency in mccovey cove this afternoon. san francisco fire officials s five juveniles ended up in t water when high winds and strong currents caused their kayaks to capsize. they were pulled to say san francisco fire, swimmers with the fire department. another juvenile and two adult were rescued by a passing fishing vessel. they did not fall i the rescue teams ranged from1 to 15 years old. they were all ok and it did not neatment. it happened during the first inning of the giants game, but does not appear to be connected. six people are dead after a plane crash near a small airport in southern california it happened early this morning near the freh valley airport in murrieta.

thats about 80 miles southeast of los angeles. verside county sheriff's office deputies say the plane was trying to land but crashed shortf the runway and burst into flames. the plane was a cessna c550 business jet. officials say it departed from harry reid international airport in las vegas. the identities of the six ocpants have not been released. th is the second crash this week near the airport. on tuesday, one person was killed and three others injured when a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff. san rafael police are seeking the public's help to find a stolen therapy dog. buddy is an in training therapy dog for a local nonprofit. he is a cavalier poodle mix with brown and white curly for. he weighs 12 pounds and wears a green color. but he was tied outside a bank of america while its trainer was making a transaction on 4th street in downtown san rafael. the owner says two women were

seen taking off with the pup friday during the transaction. anyone with information on buddy's whereabouts is urged to contact san rafael police. city of oakland is reporting new issues with its 911 emergency system today. city officials say calls are getting through and being answered, but the automated dispatch system is down again. as a result, routing calls is happening slower than usual. the dispatch system first failed when a power outage caused all the emergency call centers to go down on thursday. service was fully restored yesterday, but new problems led to the return of manual routing this morning. calling all veterans in the south bay. santa clara county's veterans office is hosting its standdown event for veterans. a two day research's fair has over 50 providers with services ranging from dental, medical, mental, and food, free haircuts

and showers provided for veterans in need. >> stand down event, the context is simply providing a one-stop event that allows all veterans in our county to see all the different service providers that are in existence that can help them directly. everything you can think of. j.r.: the event wraps up tomorrow at the fiesta hall at the santa clara county fairgrounds. it runs from 10:00 to 3:00 p.m. they will provide free rides to the event for those veterans. today, the willow glen post office in san jose held a job fair geared toward helping veterans secure new careers. post offices across the bay area open positions for everyone, but give special consideration to veterans. they say there are many career opportunities for different roles, not just the ones we see day today. >> it is important to understand the post office is more than just a regular job.

j.r.: new details tonight in the investigation into an alarming crack on a north carolina amusement park roller coaster. a damaged support beam was spotted by a concerned dad last weekend. video shows the pillar shifting as a car filled with passengers zooms by. investigators say that crack was actually visible in pictures taken six to 10 days before the

a little too far. good throw home. the catcher throws back and he is out at third. the a's lose the game 10-3. the u.s. women's national soccer team is training in the south bay for the world cup, which starts in new zealand in a couple weeks. megan rapinoe announcing this will be her last world cup. she will retire after the 2023 women's soccer league season ends in october. she has won two world cups and only big gold medals. she is ready to go out on top. >> the best way i could possibly go out is winning. it feels easy to focus and put my all into it. it is easy to be settled and excited for what is undoubtedly going to be the best world cup we have seen. chris: should be a lot of fun. cool to see the women's team. they're playing in the south bay at paypal. it will be fun. j.r.: what a joy it was to watch her for so many years. you know when you can play for for that long, you are pretty good.

member says she will not run for reelection. democratic representative grace napolitano is leaving a rich legacy on capitol hill. also, using art to get it across a message about children's health. a look at a project in t bay designed to encourage childhood vaccinations. join us tonight at 11:00. a driver in arizona is recovering from what you could call a wild encounter with a hitchhiker, one who needed help getting out of the car. these are photos from the maricopa county sheriff's office. the driver told officers he unknowingly hit a bobcat on his way to work. he parked his car, then heard a strange noise. when he opened the hood, he saw two eyeballs looking back at him. a game and fish officers were able to sedate a bobcat before removing it from the engine compartment. it was not injured and was later released back into the wild. could you imagine that?
