loss of his beloved cat. his cat was brutally attacked and later died after a dog charged while walking by. the man says he considers his cat his only family member. ama: lauren martinez has more about what happened. >> the dog saw her as it saw her, it bolted and shook her around like nothing. lauren: animal control is investigating this dog attack that happened in san jose. the surveillance video was hard to watch. a girl gets pulled by her dog who lunges after eight cat. the owner of the cap tries to intervene. >> i keep getting the images in my head of her in his mouth being shook around vigorously. lauren: the cat succumbed to her injuries later that day. he says saying goodbye was externally hard. >> i lost my best friend, my companion. the only thing i had. i am heartbroken.

traumatized by the whole event. >> the owners left after the attack. the deputy director with animal services says what is important is finding who the owner is an finding out if the dog has a history. >> we can pursue a dangerous dog hearing and if the dog is deemed a dangerous dog, it will have to undergo some pretty strict restrictions. lauren: it is important for dog owners to have control over dogs in their normal state and when they get excited. >> with mainly large dogs, you want to make sure you can physically control that dog because as you can see, from what i've seen so far on the video, there is definitely a loss of control. lauren: fowler was spreading the word so no one else goes through this. >> i feel for them and the animal as well. there is going to be consequences. i just want awareness and accountability. lauren: animal services is encouraging the dog owner to come forward. >> what would you do if this was

your kid or your animal? she was my everything, my companion, my best friend. being without her now is hard. lauren: lauren martinez, abc7news. ama: san francisco police are investigating three robberies and luxury stores that happened this week. the most recent was the gucci store at stockton. sfpd and chp gave chase down the peninsula and sunday afternoon, there was also a theft at louis vuitton in the bloomingdale's downtown. employees believe 10 people were involved. on july 6, sfpd says a single suspect is believed to have stolen merchandise from the burberry store in union square. sfpd has not announced any arrests. multiple sources tell me the estimated valley was around six figures. we are giving you the power to find crime rates where you live by using our abc7news neighborhood safety tracker.

massive cause of concern for educators as well as parents. >> you can see drugs. we don't see it and not even the administrators are aware of what is going on. tim: the fentanyl crisis is widespread. since 2019, fennel related deaths have more than tripled in california and more and more of those cases are among young people increasingly. people in attendance were each given doses of narcan to have at home. a good idea that helps destigmatize a problem that has touched so many communities around the bay area. >> i think it is important that we are telling it in education systems and spreading awareness early on so that something -- it is in the kit's mind for the future. tim: she believes as we continue to navigate this epidemic, discussions like these will only become more important. that is why she says this event is just the initial

number is growing and is greater than 50% in densely populated san francisco. mike bealer of the power delivery intelligence initiative is an advocate for underground power distribution and reacted to news of the two explosions. >> the challenge is these systems are old. they have been in their 30, 40, 50 years. that equipment gets old. sometimes they do reach end-of-life and sometimes they do fail catastrophically. j.r.: in a statement, pg&e says the root cause is under investigation. referring to saturday's explosion and fire, witnesses described multiple explosions that damaged this tesla and broke at least a dozen windows in the area. >> utilities do a great jobin maintaining reliability. they try to do preventative maintenance, but sometimes things happen. they will happen and cause an

explosion like it did in san francisco. j.r.: he says underground power distribution is safer than above ground wires, despite the two san francisco incidents in less than three months. professor daniel kirsch of the university of washington agrees. >> it makes for a reliable electricity supply because less things can go wrong. but when they do go wrong, you are in a situation like what happened. j.r.: in april, some were without electricity for a week. last saturday, the damage to the neighborhood was extensive. the challenge for these companies is this -- you don't want to replace wires to early, that would be very expensive since they last for decades and cost more. but you do want to eventually replace them so you don't see major problems. bealer tells me with two major explosions in less than three months, pg&e is likely closely surveying many underground locations in san francisco.
