they are dealing with a ransomware attack that prompted the shutdown of the city website and all online services. officials say that the forensic investigation into the problem is only just beginning. >> there's been no evidence thus far to suggest private or confidential information of employees or members of the public have been breached or compromised. reggie: officials say they will notify anyone if they discover a data breach affecting personal information. a city spokesman told abc news they expect to be able to issue paychex as scheduled. this is the second bay area city to face ransomware attacks. earlier this year you might remember that hackers hit the city of oakland. kumasi: police investigating another rash of robberies at luxury stores in the last week. the most recent was a hoochie store on stockton. -- gucci store on stockton.

bomb. the police were accused of overreacting. yesterday the police chief called the event a riot and gay people more than an hour to leave before making any arrests. he accused people of attacking his officers. >> what is excessive about an officer putting on safety equipment when they have bottles and explosives thrown at them. being punched in the face, spat on. they didn't have those helmets on for these things started to happen. reggie: a few people were seen vandalizing multiple muni vehicles. there was a protest sunday complaining about the police response. supervisor preston is calling for an investigation. kumasi: the alameda county board of supervisors will be taking a second look at an ordinance cracking down on people gathering for sideshows. spectators can be fined or spend up to three months in jail.

agenda around ukrainian -- ukraine's ongoing war. jobina: the capital of lithuania is hosting a history making nato summit. the alliance is set to expand. sweden will join after turkey dropped objections at the summit . ukraine's nearly two year long war with russia is also top of mind. >> vladimir putin has been counting on the west, nato, to crack. the transatlantic alliance to crack. he's been disappointed at every turn. >> ukraine deserves to be in the alliance. not now, there is a war. but we need a clear signal and we need it right now. jobina: though the western allies remain committed to backing kyiv, biden says that backing now is a risk. biden and presiden zelensky are set for talks tomorrow. after the nato summit wraps up, president biden is set to deliver a speech before making

morning, but we do have it along the coast and valleys of the north bay. warming trend continuing this afternoon. excessive heat friday and through the weekend. we have some dense fog there at the three-quarter mile but elsewhere we are doing just fine. a lot of us are already seeing sunshine this morning, meaning the warm up is faster than in past previous days. 90's and the hotspots away from the coast. -- in the hotspots away from the coast. 68 in the city. we will get a fair amount of sunshine today. 85 for the high in napa. a blend of clouds and with excessive heat arriving on friday into the upcoming weekend. that is for a huge portion of the region shaded in red. essentially everyone away from the coast will be under excessive heat watch and for good reason.

this is dangerous heat in many of our in land cities. 100 degrees forecasted in many spots. even along the bay shoreline, oakland to san jose, quite warm in the 80's and 90's. the coast looks like it will stay relatively comfortable, 60's and 70's. that's the place to go to get that natural ac, one of the ways to beat the heat over the upcoming weekend. warming continues over the next couple of days. those numbers really take off over the weekend where the records are possible and we are sizzling in land on the bay shoreline. the coast is staying relatively mild, 60's and 70's. jobina: a couple of issues on the roads to get to right now. there is a sig alert in and a lot -- antioch. multiple lanes are blocked. highway four is backed up as a result. westbound is the side of the car fire. a multi car crash right now in

warm afternoon. 90's in land. the coast, cool in the 60's. excessive heat watches go into effect on friday and it is going to sizzle away from the coast. details on that in about nine minutes. let's check the traffic this tuesday. jobina: there's a positive update in terms of the crash we were following in san jose. 18 miles per hour due to residual delays. there is a signal alert in antioch westbound past summersville road due to a car fire in that spot. drive times are improving but still not great. tracy to dublin, 51. kumasi: today the oakland city council is discussing giving the mayor a $75,000 pay raise today. the mayor currently earns a base salary of 227,000 dollars but the total compensation is closer to $357,000

in retirement and health benefits. for comparison, the mayor of san francisco gets total compensation of $444,000. she is the highest paid to mayor in the state. some people argue that to attract and keep talented leaders, you have to pay them more. >> 400 thousand dollars to be ceo of san francisco seems to me to be quite cheap, to be frank. the residents of san francisco are lucky to be getting such a high quality, high caliber person for that price, so to speak. it's the same argument as being ceo of oakland. that person deserves at least that compensation if not more. kumasi: one councilman said that he is not supporting the proposal, saying that they just cannot afford it with the city projecting a deficit. reggie: we are hearing from the president of the federal reserve

bank in san francisco about the collapse of silicon valley bank. mary daly says the bank failed because regulators were too slow to take action. says she doesn't have a supervising role and that other officials waited too long to take decisive regulatory action. she also says the fed will likely need to raise interest rates a few times to return inflation to their goal of 2%. kumasi: an alert in the south bay, a cat brutally attacked, later dying after a dog charged while walking by. animal control is investigating the attack that happened saturday afternoon in san jose. surveillance video shows the dog holding the girl and lunging after the cat. the cat died later that day. >> i lost my best friend. my companion. the only thing i had. no family. i'm lost. heartbroken. traumatized by the event. i'm sure they are, too. >> if the dog is deemed

dangerous, it is going to have to undergo some pretty strict restrictions. kumasi: the owner, seen in the video, left after the attack. animal control is encouraging them to come forward. reggie: the city of san jose is offering up to $300,000 to help make its cities safer. launching a global traffic safety hack-athon. they are asking for help on how to use ai software and cameras to capture data about the presence of pedestrians. >> using predictive using that we can see what happens before things happen. reggie: san jose has seen 16 pedestrian deaths this year. we have the link on our website, abc7news.com. winners will be announced in october. kumasi: in the north bay, a

black hawk helicopter will be helping to fight the fire there. this is the military aircraft showing off during a recent exercise. it can help douse a wildfire in just minutes. temperatures are expected to spike later this week. the timing of the arrival of the black hawk is key. >> out because of the heat. to have this tool in the toolbox puts us at ease. going into this fire season. kumasi: the department hopes the black hawk will keep every fire this summer to 10 acres or less. jury selection begins in and a case against donald trump. the grand jury is expected to consider if criminal are appropriate for trump in his republican allies for their efforts to overturn his 2020 election lawson georgia.

the investigation started after trump called the georgia secretary of state and suggested he could help him "find" more than 11,000 votes, which would have been enough to help him beat president biden. lawyers for trump have called for a delay on his federal trial around how he handled classified documents. they say it wouldn't be possible to try the case before the 2024 election, saying it could create extraordinary challenges in jury selection. the justice department is asking for a mid-december trial date. he pled not guilty last month and has called the investigation a witchhunt. reggie: they are nose founder elizabeth holmes has had her sentence reduced. she was sentenced to 11.5 years in prison. her new sentence is just over nine years. the bureau of prisons website lists her release date as december 29, 2032.

reggie: l.a. county, more people could be at risk after a massive landslide forced people from their homes. video shows the homes collapsing into a ravine in rolling estates. nine homes are gone. residents are concerned insurance won't cover the costs. geologists have launched an investigation into the cause of the landslide. looking at the possibility that atmospheric rivers from over the winter could be to blame. kumasi: a new docuseries about the infamous zodiac killer looking into if the bay area murders over 50 years ago were all separate crimes or if multiple people wrote the alleged letters and ciphers. two of them -- all but two have
