and still get the trouble when you're exposed to heat. >> we are getting the warning before temperatures hit dangerous possibly record-setting levels in parts of the bay area. >> thanks for joining us. temperatures are going to keep climbing into the weekend raising our risk of wildfires in power outages but only parts of the bay area face triple digit temperatures. >> let's begin our team coverage with spencer christian to show is where it will sizzle. >> it is sizzling in the southwest and that he is moving in our direction thanks to this high-pressure that has been building in the southwestern u.s. and is pushing into the bay area. we have an excessive heat watch that will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. friday to 8:00 p.m. sunday for virtually all of the bay area. with the exception of the immediate bay shoreline and the coast. during the three days, we can

expect high temperatures ranging from upper 90's to nearly 110 degrees in the hottest areas. low temperatures overnight will be in the upper 60's in our valleys and low to mid 70's any the higher elevations which is uncomfortable overnight weather. this kind of extreme heat increases the risk of heat related illnesses. the entire state of california, much of it will be under an excessive heat warning so we have a watch in the bay area. it will be a warning for the central valley and most of interior central california. i will give you a closer look at our forecast for the next seven days in a few minutes. >> this weekend's hot weather has state officials concerned. they held a meeting today to warn people what to expect and how to stay safe. anser hassan joins us live from walnut creek with the details. >> good evening. it is actually kind of nice here in walnut creek. we have swim lessons going on at larkey park swim center in wanda

creek. health officials say we have had a mild summer so many of us have not been acclimated to the extreme heat and that is about to come. it also likely means firefighters will have a busy weekend. these vallejo fire recru spent the day training at the facility in hayward. >> usually in the academy would give the lessons and we give them a test. >> this is basically a test that is teaching them the lesson. >> today may be practice but the threat of a real fire is way up as we head into the weekend. the national weather service has issued an excessive heat watch from friday till late sunday. >> there is a lot of potential this time of year. relative humidity's that drop down and the moisture poses a challenge. want to make sure we stay ahead of these fires before they get large. are forecast to soar to triple digits. hitting 110 in places like livermore. the impacts can range from wildfires to problems with the

power grid. >> the extreme he is a killer. when a disaster we face we see more fatalities from heat. earthquakes and buyers are more dramatic but not nearly to the extent heat impacts our state every year. >> state agencies are coordinating with local agencies throughout california to prepare for this weekends extreme heat. the national weather service protects record-setting temperatures. >> we are expecting a significant round of heat that will steadily build across our state into the weekend and early next week with some locations experiencing their hottest temperatures so far this summer. record hot temperatures are likely in some spots across the state could very hot and dangerous temperatures in the triple digits. >> california's natural resources secretary says heat waves are becoming more dangerous and extreme. he says the extreme heat along with wildfires, flooding, sea level rise in coastal erosion is one of five climate related

issues having unprecedented impact on the state. >> extreme heat may be the most dangerous toward public health and mortality of any of these climate driven impacts. it is literally invisible compared to a wildfire or a drought. >> i spoke to contra costa county fire officials. they say another big issue, all the vegetation on the east bay hills, some of it is five feet tell her this year compared to last year because of the wet winter. love the dry brush that firefighters will have -- all of the dry brush that firefighters have to contend with. >> knew details tonight about the refinery release in martinez involving a material called coke dust. the road leaf dexter released lasted for 30 minutes. yesterday contra costa county health officials said the release only lasted one minute. the district received five complaints about homes -- action

stolen in fremont. san ramon police say they have a solid lead into who broke into several storage units and stole more than $11,000 worth of gear set aside for kids in foster care. lena howland talked with the nonprofit about how the theft is impacting their mission. >> from kids clothing, blankets, backpacks, sneakers and personal hygiene items missing from these meticulously labeled and once organized bins inside a san ramon storage unit. >> it was very hard. it just is taki kids in foster care. >> lisa henderson, president and ceo of a nonprofit meant to ease the transition for kids going into the foster care system or transitioning into a new home says around $11,000 worth of gear for kids set aside for what they call drive bags was taken from their extra space storage unit on june 23. >> sometimes it can take a while

for the county to get them a clothing budget so we are bridging that gap. >> all of their bags are special ordered social workers in alameda and contra costa counties on the short notice which she will turn around in typically 24 hours. >> i want them to be able to go into their new home, your new schools and have the confidence. >> extra space storage said they are supporting authorities on their investigatio adding safety is a top priority at extra space and this was an unusual break-in at a historically safe store. san ramon police chief says anderson's unit was one of eight at the storage facility on deerwood road broken into at the same time. >> what we were able to based on evidence found at the location we were able to identify maybe the person involved had traveled through san ramon at certain times are used are camera network as well as surveillance from a local retailer who were able to identify a solid lead.

june and has expended to target dozens of people in at least four neighborhoods across the city. we have new insight on this investigation. the with a stroller to pick up her daughter from daycare as she was attacked and robbed in broad daylight. it happened at the corner of sanchez and clipper street in san francisco's know he valley neighborhood. the mom who we kept anonymous so she briefly checked her iphone before crossing the street. >> in that moment somebody attacked me from behind, grabbed my phone. i instinctively grabbed it back. don't recommend that. he was wearing a ski mask and a hoodie. he shoved me to the ground forcefully along with my stroller. >> surveillance footage sent to the eye team shows the juvenile suspects print into a stolen silver kia soul and drove away as the mom screamed for help.

>> somebody called the police. >> after filing a police report the mom said she struggled to get any response from investigators. >> i tried so hard to activate the police around my attack. i felt like i was dismissed as a phone robbery but this was a violent targeted attack on women. >> the next day she went to the mission police station determined to get help on her way there she passed another victim of the same crime getting treated by an ambulance. another mom and route to pick up her children from school attacked and robbed of her iphone on the same street just before 3:00 p.m. >> i had gotten a call so i picked it up. it was the one day i did not have my earbuds with me. i just picked up the call. >> police say that is when the alleged assailant struck again. surveillance video from a tesla parked across the street shows this time the suspect punched her in the face. >> i felt violated in many different ways. the first thing i think about is

your kids because who is going to watch after them? you are just broken. >> turns out these two women are not alone. another victim wrote the team quoting two teenagers hit me behind the head with a bat while the other hit me -- other still my -- june 26 and 27th. any of these attacks happening within 20 minutes of one another. all connected to a single group of teenagers. >> we begin piecing it together and realized these are part of a series. he made one of rest so far. we recovered a stolen vehicle but we have a lot of work to do. >> the crime spree did not end there. victims tell the team the next day and other spree targeted women in parts of soma, the tenderloin and know he valley. >> we have suspects. we a cfident we are going to be making arrests. >> police records analyzed by the san francisco standard fund at least 22 reported cell phone

robberies from june 23 to july 4. 15 targeted women. a lease seven of those cases reportedly involved juveniles. in those cases many of the women tracked the assailants after the attacks using the find my iphone feature. >> i saw mind go to market street paired ultimately end up in oakland. >> three of the mom's told the i team they tracked their iphones to a fleamarket at the oakland coliseum swap meet. >> you have 10 or 11 women will have the gps location of attackers that are attacking one woman after the other about 20 minutes apart over a two day spree. there must be an avenue for using that data to capture them before they hit someone with a bat or punch someone in the face. my personal expense is that data is not used at all. >> of the moms emailed the investigator assigned to her case screenshots using the deck showing the weaving of her iphone. >> the police officer wrote back

valleys and 70's in the hills. uncomfortably warm overnight weather. the extreme heat can significantly increase the risk of heat-related illness. while we have an excessive heat watch in the bay area, saturday and sunday most of the remainder of the state will have an excessive heat warning. that includes the central valley and virtually all interior southern california. here's the accuweather 7-day forecast. we expect high temperatures inland to be around 100 degrees. maybe a little above on friday. on saturday up to 104, 105. possibly higher in some of the farther inland locations. sunday up to 102. in that time highs around the bay shoreline will be in the mid to upper 80's. maybe up to 90 in places like redwood city. one of are typically warmer bay shoreline areas. the heat eases monday and starts to cool down tuesday and wednesday. >> at least it is just a three-day spell. >> last year lasted way longer.

anchor brewing has stopped operations after 127 years. the company made their announcement overnight. a spokesperson says the brewery was losing millions of dollars a year. assets will be put up for sale at an alternative -- as an alternative to bankruptcy. the roots date back to the california gold rush and was often referred to as america's first craft brewery. >> when it first moved to san francisco it was one of those things where it was made in his half a cisco so you had to try. i came from the east coast. i never heard of it before. it became a favorite. >> anchor brewing was a favorite not just for that woman but for many craft your lovers and history buffs. earlier today on our 3:00 p.m. show getting answers we heard more about the company's legacy. >> talk to any brewer and consistency and quality are key to their day-to-day jobs. i think anchor has done an amazing job and it is incredibly difficult for our industry to see such icons start to maybe

with jenkins to speak about the last 12 months and what she claims is keeping her office from putting more drug dealers in prison. >> it has been 12 months since san francisco's district attorney brooke jenkins took office. today we got right into it aired what you think is stopping you from actually stopping every single drug dealer in san francisco? >> the arrest must continue. there are still people on our street selling drugs. we must continue to make sure those individuals face charges. >> her of estate of they filed 819 felony narcotic cases in the last year which resulted in 38 convictions. it is 12 more than her predecessor. does not sound like a lot. what is your plan. >> i think it is a lot. when you break it down what it down what signals is the police have ramped up their efforts with respect to arresting drug dealers. prior to that what we were seeing where drug dealers not being held accountable whatsoever. >> you think you're doing your job but maybe judges are not doing their job?

who is failing san francisco? >> we have found more than 100 motions to detain in drug dealing cases but only had somewhere under 20 of those granted. judges are refusing to make sure these individuals stay in custody and that has to change. >> in 2022 before you took office about 50 people died in san francisco every month from a drug overdose. after you took office that increased to almost 60 people a month the first five months of this year it is looking even worse. almost 70 people are dying on our streets from a drug overdose. are you doing enough? >> is when our work must continue but what i want do is accept all of that falls on me. we have public health that needs to be doing more outreach to make sure we are getting people into treatment. >> we spoke to mothers against drug additions and death. her 23 old son was homeless and using drugs in san francisco. before getting arrested. >> instead of prosecuting him she got them into treatment and at the end of the day i have to

be very thankful. >> jenkins was handpicked by san francisco's maryland -- mayor london breed after former sf dh chesa boudin was recalled. she says she is satisfied with her work so far. >> recently one of the first prosecutions for drug dealing in san francisco in very long time. she did that and fentanyl is different from any other drug we have experienced. we asked >> dinkins if she thinks she has done a better job then chesa boudin. >> i think i've done the job of a true prosecutor. in that regard yes. >> a potential may be coming for cal state students. trustees say it is necessary to close a massive funding gap but as southbay reporter zach fuentes explains many students say they cannot afford to pay anymore. >> a proposed 6% tuition increase over the next five

years has csu students concerned for the 20242020 five school year. that means next to hundred $42. college students i spoke with say every cent of that for them is significant. > it means i cannot really afford food and gas. typically for me i don't get financial aid even though i've been trying to get it for a while because i am a little lower than middle-class. >> the increase has helped to close a 1.5 million dollars funding gap. the chancellor's office said csu has been and will continue to be a careful andrudent steward of the resources and resources trusted to it. increased need to expand holocaust degree offerings, inflation, unfunded mandates and for needs growing over time. the president of the cal state student association and a san jose state student said that increase will hit students across the state heart especially in the bay area. >> the most expensive place to rent in the nation is san jose

>> a slow-moving lens live has forced residents to evacuate 17 homes in los angeles county. fire officials say several of those homes in rolling hills estates have collapsed into a canyon. a state of emergency was

>> now sports from abc7news. >> oakland mayor sheng thao took a big swing on sunday traveling to majorly sports all-star festivities for a secret meeting of commissioner rob manfred. the hour-long meeting at the four seasons was attended by oakland staff, am a commissioner and deputy commissioner. the mayor's office shared these photos. you can see the oakland contingent wrote their receipts in a major way. 31 bonded documents detailing their offer in oakland. one for the commissioner and one for each team owner. by all accounts the meeting went well. >> it was important for me to before somebody took a consequential vote that the commissioner and every owner have all the facts. and we did go to seattle i brought 31 copies of all of our plans and everything so there was no miscommunication. no misconception of what was proposed and not proposed.
