the forecast. drew: the excessive heat arrives tomorrow through the weekend. quentin towers surrounded with fog. we have the marine layer. it is thin and will get up quickly. temperature starting out very comfortable in the 50's. they will take off those temperatures inland throughout the morning hours. you watch the fog pulled back to the coastline. by lunchtime we are well into the 80's if not 90 degrees. our hottest spots are around the bay shoreline. later on today we expect our hottest cities inland. temperatures going above average across the board. 81 in freemont, 85 in san jose. 95 in santa rosa, 99 in antioch. we saw the marine layer and play. 67 for the daytime high. we are tracking dangerously high

temperatures away from the coast. we will have those numbers in eight minutes. jobina: camera. heavier traffic than usual traveling in the southbound direction because of this new video. the deadly crash on southbound 880 just before 60 6th avenue. this was reported around 1:45 this morning started with an overturned vehicle. we don't have an estimated time as to when the lanes will reopen. if you are traveling through this area, we have another piece of video here because while police were investigating that deadly crash on southbound 880, look at all these vehicles you see on your screen. there were at least 10 vehicles involved in this crash that started in the backup. it has been an unfortunate situation. we do not have an estimated time as to when everything will

reopen. kumasi: happening right first spare the air alert of the summer as temperatures are expected to reach triple digits in parts of the bay area. today is expected to be the first day of an intense heat event. live in walnut creek with how you could stay safe this weekend. ryan: it feels like a little bit of a brisket start to start the day in walnut creek. once that sun comes up those hot temperatures will be quickly following it. this is an option for people to come and stay cool. it is not an official cooling center but it will be open for people to take advantage of the air conditioning. the bulk of the heat will be arriving on saturday and sunday when temperatures are expected to surpass triple digits in some spots. there is the spare the air alert. they are asking people to consider working from home or take public transit.

with this heat, it is important to keep your health in mind. dr. say the high heat leads to an increased risk of heat stroke. the best way to take care of your body is to limit your time outside and drink plenty of water. >> depending on our activity we could lose 10 liters of sweat per day. it can't be overemphasized emphasized that you need to hydrate. ryan: emergency visits have more than doubled nationwide in the last four weeks as temperatures increased. we have seen high temperatures throughout the country during the summertime. now we are experiencing them here in the month of july in the bay area. that q-tip of hydrating will be crucial throughout the next couple of days. reggie: guess who's busy right

for cleaning. officials issued a shelter-in-place. the chp says if you think you use -- drove through that spill, rinse off your car with water. kumasi: ash and dust in the surrounding neighborhood in martinez. they added eight additional violations for the thanksgiving day release of so-called catalytic dust. 24 tons of it spewed. at the time residents were warned it could contain dangerous chemicals. these violations relate to equipment used. this same martinez refining company just had a another release of dust on monday. investigators are looking into both cases. reggie: developing in san diego governor newsom has stepped in double increase penalties for child sex traffickers.

kumasi: threatening action against the southern california school board for not having a book that had curriculum against former director harvey milk. the state will buy the books and then fine the temecul district for violating state law. 11,000 students will begin the school year without a social studies textbook. they released a statement saying the governor was mischaracterizing the board's actions. reggie: a new warning about a popular artificial sweetener causing debate among some of the world top agencies. the world health agencies cancer agency is warning ingesting too much aspartame could cause liver cancer. it is in so many things, diet soda, sugar-free gum, and

good morning, it is july 14. drew: the marine layer is with us. it is very thin and minimal like yesterday. it will get chopped up pretty fast this morning for sunshine. temperatures not that bad. we are in the 50's for the most part. numbers will take off by the coast. that has pulled back well into the 80's already by midday. as we head into the afternoon, look how hot we are getting. 100 degrees in our hottest cities. most of us will go into the 70's and 80's. warmer than yesterday. 85 in san jose. look at these hot temperatures. fairfield coming in at afternoon. it is hotter through the weekend. excessive heat warning will begin. we talk about those temperatures coming up.

will be open today where you can go and take advantage of the air conditioning if you need to do so. we know the bulk of that heat will be arriving saturday and sunday when temperatures could be heading triple digits. this means we will have to be very mindful of heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. dr. say the best way is to stay cool and hydrate. this week we could lose as many as 10 weeks -- 10 liters of sweat every day. >> member or friend, make sure they have the resources that they need to get through this inevitable heatwave. ryan: athletes or working out should not be afraid to take as many breaks as possible.

though it has been declared unconstitutional. the amendment to repeal prop 8 passed unanimously in the state senate yesterday. it will appear on the ballot in november, 2024. reggie: new developments to the story we told you early about, the owner of a dog who mauled a pet cat to death has come forward. chris flowers beloved cat was lounging when it got attacked. surveillance video shows a girl getting pulled by the dog as the dog lunged. a man who appears to be the girl's is with her. animal services tells abc 7 the dog is local. a hearing will be held to determine next steps and if the dog will be deemed dangerous. kumasi: a resident and business owner has taken it upon himself to fight back against these. he walks around his fisherman's neighborhood looking like this.

have been paid for over 20 or 25 years. the outstanding debt worth about $39 billion is what's left of these borrowers loans at after the equivalent of 25 years worth of payments because of errors in tracking those payments, many borrowers have been left borrowing beyond their payment dates. by fixing past admin failures we are ensuring everyone gets the forgiveness they deserve. the department of education has the same goal here. that is to set the borrower's monthly payment plan based on income and cancel any remaining loans after 20-25 years of payments. isn't happening it is happening by government watchdogs and they will be erased over the next few months. we will watch that. kumasi: financial experts

chocolate and ice cream shop is reopen after undergoing renovations. it brought in some major star power. that is singer, actress, kelly rowland of destiny's child fame. she also says she is a chocolate lover. we spoke with her about what makes ghiardelli special. >> i think the smoothness of the chocolate. there are all of these different flavors that are vibrant. the raspberry, mint, my favorite is the seesaw caramel. my son put me onto a crispy rice that was downstairs. kumasi: the newly ventilated store features the original 19 foot g from the historic sign but behind -- behind what they are calling north america's largest chocolate flowing wall. that was pretty cool. reggie: i was impressed with it.
