are watching isolated thunderstorms. >> there is that chance, but let's get to the heat first. we had several locations stopping at or above 100 degrees today, but right now we see the heat receiving just a little bit. 101 degrees in brentwood, but we still have lots of 95-98 degree readings at the bay area. it is just slowly retreating. and we still have an extensive -- excessive heat warning for all the bait area away from the coast line -- away from the coast line. there is instability in the atmosphere has high temperatures are moving up and a whole trough of low pressure is moving in with showers offshore that may move through the north bay tonight. this thunderstorm threat, although marginal, is for the north bay, with a couple isolated thunderstorms tonight and we will have more on that and the seven day forecast later. dion: you can get ahead of the heat with the same tools that are weather team uses.

fire crews say that the flames have moving slowly and some trails have been closed to the public since tuesday. there is 0% containment. in riverside rages on in its second day. the flames have spread to 7600 acres, threatening nearly 2000 structures, and is 10% contained. evacuation orders and warnings are now in place. cal fire says that crews are having a hard time accessing some areas because of the rough terrain. a union and relief this weekend from a bay area family following the release of a woman who was kidnapped and held captive in mexico for months. we have told you about the story of monica deleon barbara. she was abducted in mexico eight months ago. the fbi says that her captors released her friday night and the search for them continues. >> waking up tomorrow, i think we can breathe a little bit easier. and it is a much happier day

track to focus on two other horseracing facilities in california. golden gate fields has been targeted repeatedly by animal-rights activists who have protested the deaths of horses there. more than $1 million was raised today at the 37th annual aids walk san francisco at golden gate park. abc 7 is a proud media sponsor and abc7news reporter ryan curry tells us why those at the walk say that they still need to spread awareness. >> a lively start at golden gate park for the thousands who attended this year's aids walk. many carrying signs honoring the people who inspired them to walk. for the 37th year, this raised a lot of money from local efforts to fight hiv and aids. if it were, scientists announced a fifth person who no longer had detectable levels of hiv in their system following a high risk stem cell transplant. despite this progress there is no cure for hiv-aids. millions still live with the virus. >> and a release of numbers,

infection rates were up skyrocketing, so that is a little shocking. >> therefore, this aids walk still moves on strongly with bay area residents committed to one day finding a cure. abc 7 was a sponsor of the event and dan ashley participated, sharing stories of people whose lives have been affected by the aids epidemic. >> i'm here, my relative passed away 30 years ago, my sis this is her 25th consecutive year, she made a thousand dollars. >> thank you so much for being here. >> on display, the aids quilt, which now stretches five football fields. each square designed to honor the life of someone who died from hiv-aids. >> we need a lot of awareness and that is what the quilt is about. educating, remembering those we have lost, and continuing to be in the face of the people who see it as a gay disease or say that it is over. >> the money raised is one

americans across 14 seats are under heat alerts. it has been the hottest july ever in phoenix, and k phoenix is on day 17 of temperatures at or above 110 degrees. at least 12 heat related deaths were reported. across texas, residents are seeking relief from the community in community pools and water parks. el paso has seen triple digit temperatures for 30 days in a row and the forecast is calling for 100 degree days for at least the next week. in los angeles, senior centers opened their doors. we are there with you more. >> this is one of the senior centers that has extended hours for people to get out of the heat. you can see the stacks of water. and they tell me they have seen several dozen people coming in with their pets through those doors. >> in las vegas, temperatures nearing 170 degrees, authorities urge people to stay inside during the day and incoming temp
