golden gate fields, the racetrack in operation since 1941. it will be closing by the end of the year. lena howland live at the racetrack. lena: good morning. the end of an era for horseracing in northern california. golden gate fields doors by the end of this year, leaving this part of the state without a major racetrack. a group that owns golden gate fields did not give a reason behind the closure but said the group today announced it will double down on the training venues. by closing golden gate fields at the end of the 2023 racing meet. it is unclear what will happen to the stables and horse handlers that live in the buildings on site. and if all of them will be able to transfer to the socal racetracks.

we had excessive heat warnings in effect over the weekend. no more heat alerts for us in northern california. southern california dealing with excessive heat but we are on our way to cooler weather the next couple of days. high pressure in control this weekend sliding to the south and east, that will bring heat relief across the state. temperatures stepping closer to average by the middle of the upcoming week. wednesday, near average for this time of year. still hot inland, no excessive heat warnings in effect. you will see that warm weather, in the 90's we go in our warmest cities. 70's and 80's around the bay shoreline. 60's on the coast, a marine layer. we will see that marine layer surge even farther inland. bidders cooling into the 50's and 60's, more comfortable overnight that it was this morning and a lot of spots. temperatures by tuesday, we get rid of 90's in most areas, warmest basically in the 80's for afternoon highs.
