trying to make things work so that she could try to live somewhat of a normal life. >> with no tools he cannot work. if you cannot work, he does not make any money to support his family. >> they protect my livelihood. not just belong to me but they took everything i have to make a living. >> remote police responded to the break-in saturday morning. the officer quickly learned the impact of what the robbers had done. >> it is so devastating to watch a gentleman who is a hard worker, works in the trades, is a general contractor, had his entire truck cleaned out of all his tools >> the officers says power tools are hard to track and easy to sell on the black market. he says it is the third time someone broke into the truck to steal his tools. he says the tools are worth over $7,000. you cannot replace them because some are not available or too expensive.

early saturday morning. a 26 euros was driving the wrong way on the freeway. he is accused of slamming head on to the deputy arturo romero. he was a married father of four and was set to retire in december after 24 years with the department. the loss comes at the sheriff's office mourns the loss of officer reynolds. he suffered cardiac arrest as he was leaving for work the 27 year veteran of the sheriff's office leaves behind a wife and six children. the peace officers are leaving money for both families. a boy caught in the gun battle. a town was in an unrelated vehicle when he was severely wounded. >> community leaders want to reduce pollution in the east bay by reducing traffic congestion on the richmond-san rafael bridge. you are looking live at the bridge.

the bay area council and other leaders are calling for a third lane to be added to the two lane span. the plan would open up the bike lane on the upper deck to drivers during the morning commute and it would put a movable zipper lane on the lower deck which cyclists or drivers could use. advocates say the traffic backup has caused pollution in nearby neighborhoods to get worse. >> the streets and roads in the local richmond committee are complete backed up due to the traffic. a lot of people are not even trying to get onto the bridge. >> the bridge carries around 18,000 commuters each day. some advance notice for a big freeway project that starts this weekend and will last all weekend. it is going to shut down alleas. the affected section goes from highway four in hercules to coming skyway. the green highlights are the ur options. highlight -- highway four, coming skyway and 780.

>> ducks and i help a lot of dogs. i did turkey. i did peacock. >> he has crafted hundreds of 3d printed legs for animals in need across the country. most recently it was a request from 2800 miles away and a stroudsburg, pennsylvania that held special significance. a golden eagle had been found in field in need of care and brought to the pocono wildlife rehab and education center. >> she would not have survived that much longer in the wild without being fed. >> it is believed one of her fico got caught in a trap and was severed below the ankle. after being seen by three doctors herby have birds the nonprofit center say she was completely healed and thriving. >> she was just incredibly soft and accepted. >> she is estimated to be three to five years old. she was on track to become an educational animal. he was hired to make a prosthetic as a finishing touch. >> she was able to walk without

so much as a limp. >> all seemed on track when the nonprofit received a letter from the wildlife which to be a potato because of her leg. >> the order was received around 1:00 in the order stated to euthanize immediately. that could have resulted if we refused to cooperate with a federal order. >> she was put down. much to the devastation of the rehab center and him. >> i almost wanted to cry. it is not right. >> u.s. fish and wildlife sent me a statement answering how the service determines if a bird should be euthanized or not. while states in part euthanize vision must happen if a bird cannot feed itself or move without inflicting additional injury. if it is blind or has injuries requiring amputation. her we have her say she was completely able to perch expected to live a healthy and full 40 years. >> she not only survived the

self-inflicted amputation due to the trap but she overcame the infection that may have went with it. she had incredible will to live. and then for somebody to come in and say you survived all of this now you have to be put to death anyway because you have a missing foot. >> while the service tells me they work closely with permitees and evaluate on a case-by-case basis the wildlife resource center felt they had no choice. they hope the incident serves as a lesson. >> a lot of animals are getting put to sleep because of their disability or whatever it is and we can change that. >> the wildlife rehab center treats 3000 birds a year. he actually works the overnight shift at a retail job this is his passion to make prosthetics full-time. he has no medical background. he just cares for animals.

he taught himself and gave me a sample. this is a prosthetic for a dog and all you do is put it on. there is padding. >> and hold in place? >> exactly. >> you see a lot of dogs hopping around with three legs. because small gestures make a big difference in the lives of these animals. >> there are concerns in one country when it comes to grape growing. vineyard owner sekulow let's bring we had has turned back the clock on vine ripening. that means the 2023 harvest could be weeks later than in past years putting the clock at -- the crop at risk. >> i think we are doing more leafing right now and a little bit. mostly pulling leaves peered >> vineyard crews are busy creating more space for grapes to grow under the hot sun of the napa valley. it has been a challenging season for the precious fruit so far.

early el niño season, along with a late crop, that is not ideal. >> fire is always top of mine. >> caleb is the vineyard manager for matthias and wines. >> these vines have not been irrigated once this year which is incredible. we can grow this beautiful canopy without a grope -- a drop of water partly because we had such a fortuitous winter and spring season. >> the napa valley grape growers told abc7news the tempered weather has resulted in steady growth, loose clusters and cousin try to berries. and your teams are working to manage canopies for airflow and sun exposure. we are expecting the sparkling harvest kicking off end of august. >> we are seeing a cooler vintage which is not the end of the world. darker experts a hot weather is helping the grapes ripen. the grapes are growing loosely clustered which could reduce mildew if they get wet before harvest time. could it could be a great harvest. so not a big plentiful bumper
