her charging decisions. now price has filed a misdemeanor charge against ford defending after public prosecution as the prosecutor. the case stems from the police shooting at the san leandro walmart. >> he is trying to leave the store. >> workers accuse steven tyler of trying to shoplift and he refused to put down a baseball bat when police arrived. officer fletcher tased taylor twice and shot and killed him. after that district attorney o'malley filed a manslaughter charge. judge clave allowed the case to move forward but added i don't under any circumstdo i see 12 people sink evidence here is going to use a vision to support a guilty verdict. >> the only right thing to do is make sure the cops get a fair break. >> which ford was assigned to -- was in charge of assigning a prosecutor to the case.

he describes his conversations in january with a 22 year veran of the san francisco public defender's office. emily price brought in him as her assistant district attorney. ford broke he told me i don't give a -- what judge clay said. they better google me. ford wrote in another meeting i explained officer fletcher had the same right of self-defense and he charged the fund that would have. he answered if it were up to me i would charge him with murder. >> everyone is entitled to their opinion that if their opinion is so strong, if their opinion is so strongly held that he cannot give consideration to anything other than murder, he is not fit to prosecute the case under the law. >> that declaration is why pamela price filed the misdemeanor charge against which ford. he texted me this afternoon like every the all she has done since january this will backfire too. i've done nothing wrong and her

francisco's tenderloin. it happened midday on golden gate avenue and leavenworth street. police have not identified the victim. the suspect has not yet been detained. in person is recovering following a shooting earlier today in union city. sky 7 was over the senior 12th and g streets. police say they have multiple people in custody. it is not clear if the shooter is one of them under arrest. the shooting happened just after 11:00 a.m. investigators do not know why it happened. i don't have a motive. >> oakland city council is meeting right now and expected to take a first vote on a parrot -- on a pay raise for mayor sheng thao. she is asking for the lowest amount possible bring her annual salary to around 216 thousand. her request comes following report she would get bumped up to 200 $78,000 with a $75,000 raise. the mayor released a statement saying she would only take the

lowest amount because of the budget crunch. >> working to build a better bay area by creating a safer bay area. the issue is shoplifting which is increased by 20% in san francisco from pre-pandemic stats in 2019 to 2020 two. according to the state department of justice, to deter thieves a walgreens is locking its freezers. luz pena went to see it firsthand. >> it did not take long. with in the first hour of being at walgreens on geary boulevard on 17th avenue in san francisco we witnessed multiple shoplifters. one of them even took the time to explain why he simply did not pay. >> it is san francisco, bro. employee told me they are hit anywhere between 15 to 20 times a day. other frustration a week and a half ago they decided to chain up their freezer section. this is one of the hardest hit areas in their store. now when you want something you have to press this button.

the message goes off on the overhead speaker. an employee comes to unlock the freezer. according to the employee we spoke to company policy says they cannot challenge shoplifters but this customer has. >> sometimes i've stopped people myself and it frustrates me so much to see the neighborhood fall apart and to have to ask somebody to unlock things. >> almost every aisle has products locked behind plastic cases. we asked what the brown marks where. turns out shoplifters have tried to burn the cases this vendor's all four shoplifters in a couple of hours he was working at the store today. >> they just help themselves. the problem is they are not punished. >> sfpd sergeant was on foot patrol outside the store. >> it is getting worse because more people are coming into the west side of the city on the 30 a bus line. they are basically stealing from the store. >> he did not when his face on camera but said he detained eight people shoplifting yesterday.

>> people were entering the store and taking products so outside if they cross the threshold they can be put under arrest. a people i took on yesterday seven of them returned the items. basically all eight returned items. with one there was a problem. >> as you arrest anybody? >> no because the store did not wish to put a citizens arrest. all they want to do was get their product back. >> walgreens is not the only store that has been victimized by crime. across from it is this shop. they were burglarized a go. the owner said he lost over 100,000 dollars in merchandise and cash. >> we cannot afford it. it is a small business. we cannot afford $100,000. nobody do anything about it. it is hard for us. >> two days before that, this coffee shop across the street was also hit. >> the city, the mayor, anybody. they don't do anything. nobody pays attention. nobody do anything.

we have no choice. >> i also retail federation and confirmed san francisco and oakland ranked number two in the list of top areas impacted by organized retail crime nationwide. >> earlier tod getting answers we asked san francisco mayor breed about the security changes being made by stores to stop shoplifters. >> before i was even elected official the safeway in my neighborhood on webster street had these problems and then some. it is not a new issue. places like safeway and walgreens in particular, things have definitely got increasingly worse with more people stealing from these particular establishments. i support the need to do what they need to do to ensure their stores are safe and the customer experience is a lot better than it has been. >> you can watch live interviews like this one everyday.

to be here for tonight ceremony. the head of tonight ceremony visioaand released this video of the michelin man visiting different oakland landmarks. the ceremony and the local restaurants that will be honored are great for tourism and oakland has increasingly become a dining destination. this is the fst time oakland has had the honor of hosting a michelin guide ceremony. last year ceremony was in los angeles. you might be won how chef can earn their michelin star. the team tells me anonymous inspectors find these restaurants, make a reservation and try the food just like anyone else would. then they consider five assessment criteria which have been unchanged for more than a century. those criteria include using quality products, mastery of flavor and cooking techniques, personality of the shift in the coast -- the cuisine, value for money and consistency of food. the editor of eater sf joined us on our streaming newscast abc7news at 5:32 explain how a

tonight leslie brinkley introduces you to one of the good samaritans who came in to help. >> joni walker gwen has a garage filled with her late husband's tools. they were together for 30 years before he passed away last year. she was watching abc7news late last night from her home in brisbane and she sold the story about 78-year-old daniel in in fremont. someone broke into his truck parked in front of his home over the weekend and stole $7,000 worth of his tools. tools he used to make a living to continue to support his wife. the fremont police association was so moved by his loss they set up a donation website. >> it was so devastating to watch a gentleman who is a hard worker, works in the trades, a general contractor, who had his entire truck cleaned out of all his tools. >> you sold 11:00 news and what ran through your mind?

> it was very sad and i had stuff to donate. that was the thing. i had it. he needed them. i reached out to you guys and so someone is going to come and do something with them for this gentleman. nobody is a stranger. everybody is a person. >> the fremont police officers association says they are going to make arrangements to get the tools from here in brisbane to denny raise hands. they have had two more individuals contact them with even more tools to donate. >> it is a tremendous relief to me to know that i am going to be able to get my tools back so i can continue to work and provide for my family. >> isn't that nice? >> i love when people pitch in to help. >> heat not so bad but things are changing all the time. sandhya patel is here.

they're going to be terminating our homeowners insurance policy. >> his house is not in a fire zone and he is never filed a single claim in 15 years. instead the notice said csaa found clutter, hazardous waste, tires and a dilapidated car in his yard. how could they make such a claim? no one had been by to inspect the house. so cj called the company. >> they said we sent over a drone. they have a drone that they sent to my property and flew down into my yard? >> they said we had a drone. we have seen your property. that is where we are denying you. >> correct. > he said they would not him see the photos or give him a chance to clear his yard. >> he mentioned at this point it is too late. we are not going to reconsider. >> csaa later told cj it did not use a drone. instead it reviewed aerial images taken by fixed plane or satellite.

former president trump could soon face a third criminal indictment. trump said today he is the target of a grand jury investigation looking into the january 6 insurrection. the letter trump received usually indicates an arrest or an indictment is imminent. san congresswoman zoe lofgren was part of the congressional committee that sent four possible charges against trump to the department of justice. they include conspiracy to defraud the united states and incitement of insurrection. >> the special counsel has been able to talk to some people who refused to talk to us. for example, mark meadows. he may have information we could not get that might support additional charges. >> a trump advisor says the former president does not plan to appear or testify before the grand jury this week. >> a new report accuses california's largest university system of ignoring sexual misconduct and bullion claims. report gave recommendations and

how the university can improve but as sac fly tests found out students lack of trust the university system will investigate complaints. >> jury selection in the criminal trial began monday. the former san jose head of lytic trainer was charged after dozens of former female athletes accused him of sexual assault. also on monday this report was released showing sexual harassment claims throughout the csu system were mishandled for years. the csu commissioned the report in march of 2022 following a series of scandals. the report found the campus system did not take action on hundreds of misconduct complaints. at san jose state there were nearly 200 60 sexual misconduct claims in the last school year with many claims not resulting in formal investigation. the report surveyed students and faculty finding there is a distrust in the csu system and programs in place to handle complaints. >> i am a student athlete so i feel like we trust our coaches enough and they defend us very well.

>> the san jose state senior says on a smaller scale she can rely on the resources but acknowledges many others on campus don't have that. >> for csu students as a whole i mean i understand. there is not a lot of trust in the csu. this report and a state audit have been made including an overul of the title ix services along with termination, harassment and retaliation programs the interim chancellor says the ste is comtt to improving its policies. she said we agree with and will ovided in the audit roras well as those identified under the assessment t string our culture of care and complaints in advance the core values of equity, diversity and inclusion. the san jose state president who has bn at the university since january said they will implement recommendations saying our commitment to our ongoing efforts will require continual alignment of resources and personnel and will be accomplished in stages over the coming months. for students like smith the hope is the university system will put words into action.

fifth. football is back to the 49ers ricky's reporting to camp today. the veterans will wear it week from today. first patras -- first practice eight days away. the prep girls football skills camp was held last friday at the same facilities in santa clara. a full-day event for female athletes grades eight through 12. there was on field instruction and multiple offensive and defensive drills. campers retreated to an instructional panel led by 49ers staff and the linebackers coach for the exit fell vegas vipers. if things cannot get any better for stephen curry we all saw his hole-in-one shot over the weekend in tahoe that helped him win the celebrity golf tournament on sunday. following the women and tough out -- in tahoe he hopped on a plane to new york where he would live with kelly and park to preview his upcoming documentary. >> i think it is cool timing for this documentary because you have seen 14 years of my nba

career. the success and accolades my teammates and i have been able to accomplish but there is an origin story of where it all started. i was the scrawny undersized kid that was the smallest on my team . every team i played appeared in unlocked a superpower of confidence and perseverance because nothing was given to me. everything was burned. there was a lot of patients involved. i feel like underrated is a badge of honor. everybody could adopt whether it is sports, any other area of life. that is what we are trying to inspire through the story. >> comes out friday on apple plus. i do my best to keep up with him. in ohio last saturday, then he goes to vegas. then he goes to tahoe. that he is in new york. >> where will he b > we know he will be with the warriors soon in training camp.
