a gun and several tasers in the car. city officials whether to assess the damage to the stairs today. ama: police say a mama bear her two cubs were spotted in the neighborhood park in novato. officers say there have not been any problems, but are urging caution. j.r. stone was at the park this evening and has the story. j.r.: all may be quiet at the park now, but -- >> a shock. it was yesterday that i heard about it. j.r.: news that made the park the talk of the town. a mother bear was spotted with her two cubs spotted on sunday, according to police. jasmine gibson and his twin brother read just turned eight. >> we should be careful, -- j.r.: on monday, they were here at the park with their dad. >> we were looking for trash and

poop and other things like real bears. j.r.: officers confirmed that bear poop was found near the entrance to the park playground. i sat down with allison her manse of a care who specializes with animals in marin county. >> in the last 20 years, we have not had a mother bear with cubs, so this would be a first-time siding. j.r.: while this is exciting, not one person we have talked with have seen this bear family in person, in a picture, or on video, making everything mysterious and a little frightening. >> i thought, wouldn't that be something, if it started walking toward you. j.r.: bear sightings are not common here at the park. none of the garbage cans are bear proof. the official says these are black bears, not grizzlies, shy, and usually want to avoid people. >> the fact that the sighting

what comes next. >> a growing crisis in the valeo police department. >> against all odds. they are absolutely against all odds, and for that, i am deeply concerned. tim: on tuesday, the valeo city council will decide on whether to declare a state of emergency over the police department staffing numbers. police data from march showing that the department was down to 46 police officers, 36 of which were on patrol. the interim police chief laid out the dire statistics to the city council. >> it is worse then -- and i'm am quoting the consultant we used -- worse than anything we have experienced. tim: it is currently under supervision by the department of justice. in 2020, they received heavy criticism for the death of a man. vpd has a problem with retaining and recruiting officers.

>> they are thinking i can probably get a better job at phoenix or be able to move up. we cannot do that here, and there are so many obstacles. tim: the council is considering a variety of different solutions, one of them being the possibility of offering financial incentives. >> you master x amount of years here with us, you are good to go. tim: if approved, the emergency declaration would allow the city manager to provide more resources to the vpd. she wants more details before signing off. >> i am concerned about this blank emergency declaration. what does this mean? tim: in valeo, tim johns, abc 7 news. ama: our next abc 7 advancer is the key week ahead for the nation's economy. the federal reserve will meet this wednesday to discuss

unionized workers for the delivery company are demanding better play -- better pay and improved working conditions. if a strike happens, other shipping giants would not be able to handle the influx of packages. >> this is just another blow to our supply chains that are just starting to recover from the disruptions we have experienced. dan: ups said friday they are prepared to increase compensation and hope to quickly finalize a fair deal. ama: developing news as we approached back to school season. a group of nonprofits is begging google to help schools keep their chrome bucks. according to public interest research group, thousands of google chrome books used during the pandemic will be useless this year. a chromebook software expires three to six years after the laptop's release date. advocates say without updates, chrome books cannot perform all classroom tasks. a spokesperson from google told the east bay times that the

guns. >> we see if anything bad there that we need to take a look at. we will keep the task force together and see if there are any other victims on ocean parkway or anywhere else throughout long island. ama: several sources say investigators believe more murders could have incurred in his home. the investigation crosses across to pull states. dan: the department of justice filed a lawsuit against texas today after governor greg abbott installed floating barriers across the rio grande. governor abbott is defending his actions, saying the barriers are needed to keep migrants from crossing into the states. the lawsuit claims abbott violated multiple laws and the barrier poses a risk to the environment and public safety. >> instead of coming to the table and figure out a way to work together, he continues to do this cruel, unjust, inhumane ways of removal.

dan: governor abbott seemingly ready to fight the suit, claiming that he plans to see the president in court. the texas department of safety is investigating accusations of inhumane treatments of migrants. a safety officer claims that he was given orders to push the migrants into the rio grande. ama: building a better bay area by dividing food to those in need. that is the goal between a local nonprofit and kaiser. the organization takes loafed over food from businesses to help those in need -- left over food from businesses to help those in need. after patients pick out which food they want to receive, the patients gave -- the hospital gives their extra food to the organization. >> is one of the room -- it one of the most rewarding things of my job. ama: a california law already requires businesses like

the way tomorrow. santa rosa going from 87 degrees today to 91 tomorrow. san francisco is up four degrees. for concord, from 90 to 94 degrees. this area of low pressure ushered in a stronger offshore breeze today. most areas saw cooling as the triple digit heat pushed eat with -- pushed eastward a bit. on live doppler 7, we have patchy fog out there, and that is how it will start out tomorrow morning. look at how warm it is still in inland areas like antioch, brentwood, 50's along the coastline. we will start the day with comfortable weather and the afternoon will get warmer across the region. from our emeryville camera, we are looking back towards san francisco, patchy coastal fog, and drizzle in the morning. a brief one-day warm up in the afternoon and cooling resumes again midweek.

tomorrow morning, watch out. there is dense fog and patchy drizzle for the noontime hour. notice how warm it is in the 80's, and by the early afternoon, already in the 90's and lend, but the coast remains in the 60's. you will range from the mid-50's to mid-60's to start the day tomorrow afternoon. in the south bay, we will go for a warm one. 85 san jose. on the peninsula, 78 in palo alto, low 60's coast side, so our microclimates are completely at full play. 69 degrees in san francisco. 87 in san rafael. 93 in santa rosa. 76 oakland. 80 in work, 80 in fremont, and it will be a hot summer day, but we will not have to worry about triple digits. 94 degrees in livermore and concord.
