solving the public safety problems they are seeing. dan: what was meant to be the routine community meeting quickly turned fiery tonight but the emotions are from a very heartfelt place. a place of wanting to build a better bay area. neighbors have had enough with feeling unsafe. ama: tim johns one -- was in attendance here tonight. >> there must be consequences. it's unreal that there are consequences for these children. reporter: emotions running high at a meeting thursday in oakland. >> you don't know what the pain and what we've been through. reporter: the meeting by representatives from the oakland police department. there was a line out the door and so many people trying to logon through zoom that the app maxed out. the issue on everyone's mind? rising crime. >> beat us to the ground. grabs my friends hair and pulled

her across the sidewalk. reporter: barbara was one of those in attendance. she came to talk about her experience getting assaulted and robbed in the city. barbara wasn't alone. >> i was pulled out of my car at gunpoint. reporter: seemingly everyone had something to say. one of the main concerns was what to do with juveniles who commit crimes. >> all counties across the state have been asked to decriminalize young people. our county has adopted that as a policy. reporter: statistics show crime is up 26% year-over-year. many in the audience demanded answers from the da as well as the police over what they're doing to stop the violence. one case that came out was the arrest of nine children police say were connected to 35 different robberies. >> formal consequences established that don't always involve incarceration. but do involve and carry some

punitive damages that requires the person to be responsible for their actions. reporter: there were a variety of different viewpoints. there was one thing everyone could agree on. they want to feel safe in their neighborhoods. >> the people who are taking women particularly, older women, assaulting them among other crimes, have to have consequences. it's ridiculous. reporter: tim johns, abc7news. ama: we caught up with the oakland mayor to talk about issues impacting the city of oakland including the recent attempted carjacking in the oakland hills. here's what she had to say. >> it's outrageous, discussing, not appropriate. it has to come to a stop. the oakland police department, we are united and working to solve and prevent these crimes. not just that but hold those who are responsible accountable. ama: tonight, the naacp oakland

washington. reporter: special counsel jack smith who indicted donald trump for his alleged mishandling is clip -- of classified documents is charging the former president with an additional three charges in that case to which he originally pled not guilty. trump facing two new obstruction counts and another count of willful retention of national defense information. now a new person has been named in the amended indictment for allegedly attempting to delete surveillance video footage of trumps mar-a-lago residence. the new superseding indictment places trump in the midst of an obstruction charge, saying he requested an employee to delete security camera footage at mar-a-lago to prevent the footage from being provided to a grand jury. sources say he was the head of maintenance at mar-a-lago and he's also charged with making false statements in a voluntary interview with the fbi earlier this year.

he's the third person in the indictment which already includes an aid to trump who pleaded not guilty to several charges including several obstruction charges and concealment related charges. in a statement, the trump campaign claims that these charges are meant to attack trump and his allies. the statement went on to attack president biden and special counsel jack smith. ama: dianne feinstein appeared confused during a vote for a defense appropriations bill. when she was called on to vote, she began reading a statement and continued until an aide whispered in her air what to do. here's the moment it happened. >> just say i. >> ok. aye.] ama: has been questioned by some who want the 89-year-old senator to resign. she just returned in late may after a severe bout of shingles. feinstein's office issued a

statement that said, the senator was preoccupied, didn't realize debate had just ended and a vote was called. she started to give a statement, was informed it was about, and then cast her vote. dan: firefighters knocked down a fire in bay point today. contra costa county fire officials say it burned one home, part of a duplex, several structures, and an rv. fire crews were on the scene for hours. officials say gusty wind and a breeze around the structures all contributed to the spread of the flames. the cause is under investigation. the weather is always a key factor in any kind of wildfire. let's bring in spencer christian for your 24 hour accuweather forecast. spencer: we won't have those conditions here tomorrow. 7:00 tomorrow morning, cloud lingering. some low clouds and fog. temperatures, 58 inland, 56 around the bay, 54 on the coast. by noon, much sunnier skies.

has now been identified. not only was her killing caught on camera but it was then posted to facebook. j.r. stone has more on how the arrest was made and spoke with the experts on what might come next. reporter: san mateo police scouring an apartment complex on thursday. the details, nothing short of draw dropping. someone online in nevada witnessing this. >> a facebook video that showed a stabbing of a female. reporter: that person in nevada the -- immediately calling authorities. within three hours, officers located the victim in an apartment here at the hillsdale garden apartments in san mateo. sadly, police tell us she was dead. the suspect who police say also posted the video of the fatal stabbing with mark magic off. he was located in arrested in san jose two hours later. >> exhibit a in the prosecution's case is going to

be this facebook video. reporter: the suspect was released from prison in 2018. stephen clark says the attorney will likely look at making this a special circumstances case and could seek the death penalty. >> certainly the death penalty is still on the books. gavin newsom has an exercised those executions. it is still a california law. that doesn't mean that a prosecutor won't seek the death penalty in the right type of case. reporter: criminologist and author -- says the person who killed this woman appears to have similarities with individuals who have committed mass shootings. >> it strikes as someone who is looking for his 15 minutes of fame, and just a very twisted way. this is a guy who is angry. clearly the stabbing itself made a statement.
