>> i'm andrew dymburt. >> happy monday. i'm rhiannon ally. we want to begin with the employee at former president trump's mar a lago resort headed to court today in the classified documents case, he's accused of scheming with the president to hide security footage from investors. >> it comes as we learn new details about trump's mounting legal bills while he awaits another possible indictment. abc's em nguyen is here now with the very latest. m good morning . >> good morning, andrew. yeah. instead of shying away from the latest accusation by special counsel jack smith, trump is now centering his 2024 campaign around those legal woes. this morning, donald trump's legal team bracing for a possible new federal indictment over the former president's alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. in special counsel jack smith leading a wide ranging investigation into the january 6th attack on the capitol. meeting with trump's team last week, a clear indicator that criminal charges could come any day now. >> these are ridiculous indictments. >> trump bashing his latest

legal issues, including two new charges of obstruction of justice in the classified documents probe. smith accusing trump of trying to delete security camera footage at mar a lago last year, just days after a draft subpoena for footage at the florida residence had been sent to his attorney. that is quintessential consciousness of guilt, which shows that he knew what he was doing was wrong. >> it just gets worse for him. >> the on lot of legal troubles and bills in the midst of trump's 2024 campaign, abc news has learned the superpac that supports the former president has spent more than $40 million on legal costs in the first half of this year and just launched a new legal defense fund, specifically to cover costs incurred by allies entangled in his investigation as well. >> we also spent more than $20 million attacking me. i think that we need to be focusing on using our energy, on resources, on defeating biden. >> in all cases, trump has

groups. >> it is one of the most dangerous places in all of haiti. in fact, the only reason we're allowed into this area is because we've been granted permission. >> the state department is now ordering families of us government employees to evacuate haiti. it's also urging americans not to travel there due to widespread crime. >> breaking overnight, the end of the road for one of the largest trucking companies in the us. yellow corporation delivers for companies including walmart. its bankruptcy is expected to be the largest of its kind in us history, with ripple effects throughout the economy. at yellow, we've been hard at work this morning, trucking company yellow is in the red. after years of financial struggles, the nearly century old business with 30,000 workers has reportedly shut down. the company has more than 12,000 trucks and a long list of customers, including walmart and home depot. >> we have the team, the tech and the trucks to get it done. >> analysts say the shutdown will likely mean higher delivery prices passed on to consumers as other firms try to handle the

extra load. yellow had accumulated more than $1 billion in debt and got a $700 billion covid rescue loan from the government in 2020 when its role in the supply chain was deemed essential to national security. its financial woes compounded by tensions with the teamsters union. >> shirley teamsters leaders don't want their members or employees to lose their jobs. meanwhile more challenging news for the trucking industry and all drivers. >> gas prices are on the rise, up $0.16 in the last week to a national average of $3.75 per gallon, the highest since november due to oil production cuts overseas and refinery issues blamed on the record heat this summer. as for yellow trucking company, it claimed the teamsters were blocking plans to modernize the company. the union blamed decades of mismanagement for the company's troubles. >> people around the nation's capital are cleaning up after powerful storms there. at one point, more than 200,000 customers lost power in maryland, virginia and washington, d.c. police in virginia are investigating a possible storm related death. a

man was reportedly killed after a tree fell on him. we will check today's forecast in just a few moments. new concerns this morning that chinese hackers may have compromised critical us infrastructure. there's an urgent search for malicious computer code that could affect power grids and even water supplies. it's being called a ticking time bomb. the new york times reports the biden administration believes chinese hackers have installed malware on us networks that could affect both military and civilian operations. officials say the malicious code could disrupt power grids, communication systems and water supplies that feed military bases around the world. but the impact could spread much farther as that infrastructure often supplies civilian homes and businesses. a national security council official did not acknowledge the malware directly, but said the biden administration is working relentlessly to defend the united states from any disruptions to our critical

infrastructure. back in may, microsoft reported finding mysterious computer code in telecommunications systems in guam, the pacific island home to multiple us military bases. now, us officials acknowledge microsoft could only see a small portion of a much larger issue. they say the chinese malware effort predates the may report from microsoft by at least a year. what are we seeing today? >> you know, the threat environment at its all time highest just over the last year , we saw an increase of 953 new bad actor groups bringing the total of 3500 unique groups. >> and earlier this month, chinese hackers infiltrated the accounts of the us commerce secretary and other officials at the commerce and state department's small plane crashed into an airport hangar in southern california, killing three people. >> the single engine plane burst into flames after the crash in upland, california. investigators say the plane went

burning boat moments before the vessel exploded and a husband and wife pulled the pair from the water. the boat sank to the bottom of the bay. a plane crash and erupted a beach day in new hampshire. the banner plane was flying low off hampton beach and then the plane's wheels hit the water, causing it to flip over. the pilot was able to swim out of the plane, escaping any serious injury. >> we were really happy to see him come ashore. but there was everybody at the beach just with their jaw open, thinking, what the heck? it was just really scary. the plane's banner hit swimmers in the water, but no one was injured. >> the cause of the crash, meanwhile, is under investigation. we turn now to olympic skier bode miller and his wife, describing their family emergency recently involving carbon monoxide out doors. >> this morning, olympic skier bode miller and his wife are describing how their three children were poisoned by carbon monoxide while outside bode and his wife, morgan, shared images
