recently. and that's where all the money is. and they may be left out in the cold. all this is because of the lack of a tv contract and the dominoes started falling. it sounds like oregon and washington really did want to leave, but it comes down to stability. and the best the pac 12 could offer was a one year streaming deal with apple. so the ducks and the huskies are joining usc and ucla starting next year. and then the big ten. and within the past couple of hours, cal and stanford, they released a statement saying they're exploring their options, which go from bad to worse to horrible to unfathomable. and i'm being optimistic. we'll see. it's a mess. kyle shanahan has said if brock purdy is healthy and he is, he'll start for the 40 niners this season. he's been up and down in training camp come on got him expect that he's coming off elbow surgery but the niners do not doubt his skill set after he led the team to the nfc championship game last year. so what does purdy think about his coach calling him the real deal? yeah, i appreciate that.

but, you know, for myself, i know what i have to do. i have to get better in areas and keep chipping away and keep growing as an offense and keep pushing this offense to get to the level that we want to be. yeah, the bar and the ceiling here is high and we all expect that out of ourselves. we expect to be great and that's how i look at it. warriors head coach steve kerr is now the head coach for the us national team after being an assistant under greg popovich for several years, practices have begun in vegas for the fiba world cup, which begins at the end of the month in the philippines, has several on court rules, differences when you play international ball. but the biggest change here is actually the roster because all the guys are there. they actually want to be there. there's no contracts on the line. nobody's getting traded. this is just us for six weeks and i expect the same thing to happen. here is what happened, you know, in 21 in terms of the buy in and the effort and the energy and the intensity and we'll see what

happens. steve was talking about contracts, contracts in the nba are getting astronomical. espn reporting anthony davis has agreed to a three year, $186 million extension with the lakers. that's $62 million per year. biggest extension in nba history. look, ad's great when he's healthy, but he gets hurt a lot. this deal keeps him with the lakers through 2028, and the numbers are only going to keep going up. speaking of going up and going big, the warriors, this is rather extreme hot wheels monster trucks heading to chase center this weekend and the warriors debuted a truck of their own and thrive city today. this truck will participate in weekend shows. and here's the cool part of this. it's going to be driven by joe safer. he's the world's first and only disabled combat veteran to operate a monster truck. he does it with his hands. it's unbelievable. and i mean, i'm just in awe. yeah, that's great. as for pac 12, best case
6:55 pm
scenario probably is the big ten or. well, yeah, probably the big ten says let's we want northern california. and they would add them to the mix. that's the best case. that's probably the best case, worst case is maybe they have to go stanford could go independent or they could go to the mountain west. the problem is the dollars go down to the mountain west, which means the dollars for all of your athletics programs suffer. so it's not just football, it's the water polo. it's everything. so it's just a huge mess. all right. keep us posted. thank you. yeah. coming up tonight on abc seven at eight it is will trent followed by 2020 at nine. then don't miss abc seven news at 11. remember abc seven news is streaming 24 seven. get the abc seven bay area app and join us whenever you want wherever you are. and finally this friday, a few thoughts about what really matters. remember when crossing the state owned bridges around the bay area was only a buck when it doubled to $2 in 1998? i interviewed people who were
6:56 pm
upset about the increase. then. well, then, as now toll hikes have the biggest impact on working folks and those who have no choice but to drive because of odd hours, maybe, or the need for their vehicles on the job. it's $7 to cross those bridges now, and it's going up to 8 in 2025. but now there is a proposal by state lawmakers as we talked about here tonight, to tack on an additional dollar 50 to help bail out bart and muni still struggling after the pandemic. we're told that special toll would expire in five years. don't hold your breath once we're used to paying it, it's hard to imagine they'll give it back. clearly our transit systems are in trouble and we need them. but what really matters is that lawmakers need to seriously consider the effect that upping the bridge tolls by a total of $2.50 is going to have on people struggling just to make ends meet. it's a huge impact. i always love to hear from you. let me know what you think.
