intelligence to the russians. it's not their first attempt on the president's life during this war. meanwhile, ukraine stepping up attacks, targeting two key bridges, vital supply lines to russia. this follows recent strikes against russian ships in the black sea and drone attacks in moscow. russia retaliating over the weekend with waves of attacks, hitting military and civilian targets. meanwhile, peace talks in saudi concluding, no statement but china saying it's helping build international consensus. kremlin dismissing, saying fighting will continue for the foreseeable future. in other words, george, for now, expect war not peace. >> ian pannell, thanks. robin? to the severe weather threat on the move here at home. ginger is tracking the latest and the new heat alerts. good morning, ginger. >> let's start with the tornado video coming out from storm chasers over the weekend. 24 hours you've had two reported tornados in illinois, but over the weekend ten total. look at the upward motion. very strong video.

then the damage in taylorville, illinois. roofs ripped off. they'll get out there and do that survey today. we also have had 2500 fights cancelled in just the last 24 hours as winds blew through atlanta and other places. you're going to get more violent storms today. this will be on the lookout especially after 4, 5, 6 p.m. west virginia down through appalachian. damaging wind the main threat, but tornados will spin up in there. then the heat. let's talk about baton rouge who now has broken a consecutive heat record of 100 plus for nine days. it's not gonna stop. excessive heat warnings still in place. houston will feel like 109 today. look at this. travis hertzog, our meet skwrol he put that thermometer in his cold water and it went up to 100. he kept it there 20, 30, 40 seconds. definitely hot. robin? >> that just lets you know. ginger, thank you. severe weather forcing a shelter in place at beyonce's concert at

fedex field. faith abubey is there for us. good morning, faith. >> reporter: good morning to you, robin. for two hours last night some beyonce fans were stuck in that parking lot as the severe weather was moving through. they were told to return to their vehicles and shelter in place. in the mean time, inside the stadium, thousands of fans were packed into hallways and tunnels for safety. they were looking for rooms to move abound. they were looking for air, trying to find it. it was so hot it triggered a heat emergency. some people had to be treated for heat exhaustion and one person had to be taken to the hospital to be treated. that's according to a fedex field spokes person. once the lightning moved through, she was able to perform as planned. organizers paid $100,000 to keep the metro running for an extra hour making sure fans had a way to get home. in a statement, fedex field officials said the safety of the fans was their top priority. >> it was quite a scene there. faith, thank you.

we turn now to the breaking news overnight. a firefighter helicopter crash left three people dead in california while crews were battling a brush fire. will reeve is on the scene with the very latest. good morning, will. >> reporter: good morning, rebecca. information on what exactly happened the still coming in, but cal fire officials say the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. yesterday. crews were battling a brush fire near palm springs. one of the helicopters was a sky crane. that's what dropped water and fire retardant on fires. the other was a bell helicopter. that hovers higher to coordinate operations. the sky crane was able to land safely, but that bell helicopter did crash and kill all three people on board. a cal fire division chief, an air captain and a contracted helicopter pilot. overnight in the dark here in the desert, a processional of firefighters and police officers seen leaving the scene of that crash with victims' bodies.

the ntsb and faa are going to be investigating. officials here say this is a tragic loss for the community. rebecca. >> we are thinking of those families and that community this morning. okay, will. thank you. george? the latest on donald trump's legal jeopardy. his lawyers are facing an afternoon deadline after they battle with prosecuors over releasing documents from the january 6th case. chief justice correspondent pierre thomas is tracking the latest from washington. >> reporter: the legal jostling is fully under way with the special counsel pushing for a speedy trial and trump's team seeking to delay. this morning donald trump's attorneys already wrestling with special counsel prosecutors. trump's legal team has until 5 p.m. today to respond to the special counsel's weekend request limiting what trump can do or say about the evidence the government provides him as the case unfolds. prosecutors writing, if the defendant were to begin issuing public posts using detailing for

example, grand jury transcripts obtained in discovery, it could have a harmful, chilling effect. the special counsel requested the order and alerted the court after trump lashed out in a social immediate post in which he talks about coming after people who go after him. trump's spokes person suggesting the government was overreacting and that he was only talking about political rivals, not officers of the court. trump's team says the special counsel is simply trying to infringe the former president's right to free speech. >> not only do they want to violate donald trump's first amendment rights, they want to violate freedom of the press. >> reporter: trump's lawyers sought to delay their response. but on saturday, the judge denied that effort. leading to a furious response from trump on sunday morning on social media in which he complained he has no chance for a fair trial. a potential key witness in the trial, former vice president mike pence. trump's attorney suggesting they

ships. nearly a dozen from two of our main adversaries coming close to american waters. the u.s. response to these joint chinese/russian exercises was immediate. the navy dispatching four u.s. warships and reconnaissance aircraft to shadow those chinese and russian vessels. the chinese and russian warships did stay in international waters and the pentagon is downplaying any threat from these exercises. but having those joint patrols was most certainly provocative high lighting growing cooperation between those world powers at a time of increasing tension with the u.s. over taiwan and, of course, the war in ukraine. robin? >> provocative does seem to be the appropriate word there, martha. thank you. >> also in alaska, a major flooding emergency and what officials are calling an unpress denned flooding event. matt gutman is tracking the very latest. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, rebecca. that flooding event was

considered so extreme that the national weather service hydrologist with whom we spoke said he didn't even think it was possible. now, the peak of the flooding has passed but there is still some concern about damaging debris in those floodwaters. >> there it goes. there it goes. >> reporter: this morning watch as that four bedroom house collapses into the floodwaters in alaska. >> we were just watching the bank slowly erode. then the whole roof and everything just came down in a big puff of material. >> reporter: officials blaming this record flooding on overflow from suicide basin an off shoot of the melting glacier. juneau under a state of emergency. two structures have collapsed into the river so far, with more at risk, including a condo building as officials call the river bank highly unstable. the record floodwaters choked with debris. trees like this falling into the water. another tree seen pulled downstream. floodwaters almost reaching 16 feet overnight saturday, setting

new york city has now been charged with a felony. authorities arresting more than 60 people in the incident saying several others including some officers were injured. >> i got hit by something. >> reporter: the crowd had gathered to see massively popular kai senate who last week announced plans for a meet and greet friday in manhattan's union square, where he said he'd be giving away merchandise worth thousands of dollars. >> we're doing ps5, pc's, keyboards, mouse pads. >> you are going to have to have 20 security guards. >> reporter: the nypd claims senate never told them about the fan. friday afternoon thousands poured in, people climbing on cars, statues and subway stations with multiple fights breaking out. >> we have people bleeding. groups of people are fighting in union square. four, five and six train. >> reporter: as the police response grew, senate still

touted the give away. >> $100 gift cards all here. we gonna go crazy. >> reporter: telling his audience on his live stream to be safe, but also saying everybody for themselves. there's a war out there. this suv was then captured speeding away with crowd members hanging on. senate believed to be inside. streaming star later questioned by authorities, seen here leaving a police precinct. he's now charged with riot in the first degree causing public injury. a class e felony. also charged with inciting a riot and unlawful assembly. in a statement, senate's group says in part we recognize that our audience and influence are growing and with that comes greater responsibility. we are deeply disheartened by the outbreak of disorderly conduct and do not condone that type of behavior.

new york city mayor eric adams said they are investigating whether outside actors escalated the violence but noted most of the people in the crowd were very young. and authorities say they do believe senate and his team did have some playstation 5's and all of those gift cards but it is unclear if anybody received any of them. police did note nearly half of the 60 plus people arrested were minors. robin? >> all right, trevor. thank you. george. to the deadly boat crash in italy that killed an american publishing executive. authorities have launched a criminal investigation. james longman has details. >> reporter: good morning, george. the amalfi coast is a dream vacation destination, especially for americans. there are tens of thousands of them there this summer. but for one u.s. family, it's turned into a horrible tragedy. this morning a celebration at sea turned to tragedy. authorities investigating the death of an american woman in this boating accident off the amalfi coast.

>> what happened? >> reporter: according to authorities, american mother of two and publishing executive adrienne vaughn was sun bathing on a motor boat when it slammed into a boat hosting a wedding reception. italian media saying that the force of the collision pushed vaughan overboard and after falling in the water she was apparently hit by the propellor. a nearby boat pulled her to shore, but she was pronounced dead. the rmat captured in this video. the wedding guests reacting in horror. two doctors aboard even diving in the water to help but it was too late. the boat's skipper is currently being investigated for possible manslaughter charges. mike white and their two children survived the incident. vaughan was president of bloomsbury usa, publishing house released a statement saying in part the loss of adrienne is a terrible blow and she was deeply loved by colleagues. due to her combination of great personal warmth and a fierce determination to make the business succeed and grow.

and videos of herself on social media. >> y'all are just doing too much. i can't keep up. >> reporter: abc news obtaining a police report outlining how the alleged plan was discovered. the 36-year-old's estranged husband robert shiver reporting to authorities that he learned of what was a plot to murder him, saying he came to police out of fear for his life and the life of his children. police arresting shiver's estranged wife and two other alleged accomplices. investigators searching their phones and saying they found a number of what's app messages suggesting a plot. all three initially not talking to police but later lindsay shiver admitted to sending messages and photos saying kill him. >> in the bahamas they follow what's called common law. the english common law. if they are able to prove that it rose to level of a legal agreement that is essentially all they need to prove in order to convict her and find her

ginger's tracking that. good morning, ginger. >> we've been watching severe storms including tornados. ten reported over the weekend. one yesterday in illinois that was captured by a storm chaser. then the video from the damage. this in taylorville, illinois. they'll do those surveys today. the roof's off. multiple homes with roofs off. tens of thousands without power around birmingham thanks to damaging winds mushing through there. atlanta, georgia, we've had nearly 1,000 cancellations for flights in the last 24 hours. i know a lot of folks have been stuck on that. not gonna get a whole lot better as the storms blow up in appalachian. west virginia, virginia, western north carolina. places like boone up to philadelphia and new york all included in the threat today. this is later afternoon and through the evening. damaging wind the main one but you can get a spinoff tornado on there. the heat is in place. it is not budging. baton rouge, louisiana, had nine days in a row at 100 plus. something they have never done in their record. the records go back to the 1800s.

they're going to keep doing it, george. >> ginger, thank you very much. robin? now to the bus crash in idaho that left seven campers critically injured. the incident is under investigation. erielle reshef joins us with the latest. >> reporter: good morning, robin. as you can imagine, a night mare scenario. the school bus was full of camp children when it was heading back from camp when it overturned. a stretch of the highway was closed in both directions in the wake of the crash. authorities are trying to piece together what happened. this morning investigators tracking down leads to determine what caused this terrifying school bus crash. authorities clearing the wreckage, the devastating after math seen here as the bus was towed from the scene. >> school bus was turned over. both lanes of travel. we have multiple units and need multiple ambulances. >> reporter: friday afternoon, idaho state authorities say the bus lost control and rolled over on state highway 55 with nearly 30 children on board after leaving a ymca summer camp program. the crash leaving 11 children

between ages 13-18 injured, seven in critical condition. officials saying all children on the bus were transported by air or ground ambulance to local hospitals. maren ericson, a good samaritan who sprung into action detailing the moments after the bus overturned feet from her car. >> as i approached the scene and realized that multiple kids were being helped out of the bus, i just snapped into kind of solution, fix it mode. >> reporter: and doctors who treated the wounded say recovery will be slow and all the children will likely need counseling to deal with this trauma. the camp thanking first responders and the community and asking for prayers for the young victims. robin? >> absolutely. thank you. rebecca? we turn to barbie, turning all that pink into green at the box office. the movie just crossed the billion dollar mark over the weekend. eva pilgrim is back with that. we both wore our pink in celebration of the milestone.

we are back with our gma cover story. more than a year after the mass shooting at robb elementary in uvalde, texas, parents of some victims are demanding answer, asking if their children could be saved. john quinones joins us with that story. good morning, john. >> reporter: good morning, george. one hour and 17 minutes. that's how long it took before law enforcement officers finally confronted that mass shooter at robb elementary. even though there were almost 400 officers on the scene that day. one of the key questions is, could any of the victims have been saved if only those officers had moved in sooner? well, abc news has learned that more than 14 months after the tragedy, that crucial information is nowhere to be found.

more than a year after the school shooting in uvalde, one family is still waiting and demanding justice for their daughter jackie. the 9-year-old was one of 19 students and two teachers killed on may 24, 2022. what keeps you going? >> justice. the justice. we have to continue to fight for jackie. >> reporter: after the mass shooting, a medical panel was created by the texas department of public safety to conduct a casualty analysis to try to determine whether the delayed police response cost any lives. but the panel needs to review crucial information, like the victims' autopsies, information that is now in the hands of the uvalde district attorney, christina mitchell. abc news has learned according to the head of the panel, the da has not provided that panel with those important findings,

despite the repeated requests. do you believe jackie would be alive today? >> i do. >> reporter: if law enforcement had gone in earlier? >> i do. >> reporter: after law enforcement finally breached the classroom and killed the shooter, jackie was found inside with a gun shot wound to her chest. but she still had a pulse. she was rushed to uvalde memorial hospital. her parents believe she might have survived if law enforcement had acted sooner. >> because of her wounds. she would have bled out quickly. because of that, we know it had to be at least 30, 40 minutes after the initial gun fire that she got shot. >> reporter: e-mails obtained by abc news show that since last november, the special panel investigating the survivability of the 21 victims started requesting medical records and autopsy reports to no avail according to the head of the panel. district attorney mitchell has

declined comment to abc news. the victims families are left in the dark. they say they're hearing the same response they've heard from authorities for 14 months now. manuel rizzo is jackie's uncle. >> i know that investigations take time but if you need help, ask for help. let's get out there and get some work done and communicate with the families and the general public. where are we at today? where's your timeline? >> i feel like i haven't done enough for her. i haven't. she deserves it. she deserves justice. >> reporter: that justice could be delayed even further if and when that medical panel starts analyzing whether lives could have been saved. it could be months and months before they have any real answers. george? >> such a tragic story. okay, john, thank you very much. let's go to ginger. george, in washington, d.c., it's a muggy morning with all the ingredients coming together for what could be a damaging event.

treatment of postpartum. a serious condition affecting about 1 in 7 women. abc news medical contributor dr. darien sutton joins us with these details. we've been following this since clinical trials. what makes it so special? >> so this is the first fda oral medication to treat postpartum depression. and this approval comes after two randomized studies that were able to show that mothers suffering from postpartum and took this medication once a day for two weeks had significant improvement in their symptoms as early as three days after starting it. robin, those symptoms seem to last for the 45 day period that these mothers were followed. >> that's encouraging. it's been approved. when will it be available? >> likely later this year. first thing has to happen is the a 90 day review by the drug enforcement administration which is required for any medication that could affect the central nervous system. >> if you think this is for you, dr. darien, what are the signs women should look for? >> when we talk about postpartum

my go to move since 2016 have been the crinkle cutter and the star cutout. really simple but really bring some beauty to the lunch box. >> you crinkle cut all your veggies and star cutted everything. >> yes. you can crinkle cut carrots, watermelon, even avocado, apples, anything. and it's quick. >> let's talk about this. lunch boxes. we use one of these at home but getting it open they have a short time at lunch so they have to work through it. >> they do. you really want to practice with them before school starts. make sure they know all the different parts to open so that way when they start school they're confident being able to eat their own lunch. >> how about the juice boxes? >> juice boxes are a great thing to send for lunch. these are water boxes. when your kid sticks in the straw, juice comes out. what you can do, you can pop these tabs up on the side and have them hold that when they stick the straw and no juice will come out. >> ginger would love the reusable juice boxes so they can really get used to it over time. >> yes, yes. >> let's talk about hiding
