there at station at eighth and oak streets. the victim's body located was found on the street level above the station. the trains their run underground. service has not been affect. >> the shootings near this afternoon.ve around 2:30 you see the two sites on this map, they are about seven miles apart. oakland police remain on the scene of the shooting, an officer found the body of a gunshot victim around 2:30 in the parking lot near the boat launch at the martin luther king regional shoreline. the department is releasing any information on the. dan: thanks for joining us, other big story we are following is the latest on the city workers strike in san jose. in a last-ditch effort to avoid the strike plan for next week, dozens of city workers adjust the city council today asking that their demands be met. ama: after a closed session meeting, the council came back with no report. abc 7 zach fuentes has the

details. >> i really want to work for the city of san jose, i care about it deeply, i happen to love the work that i do, i love my department and i don't want to leave. >> but tuesday, sarah joined dozens of other city workers in a final effort to call on the council to meet their demand before the council went into close session to discuss the wage negotiations. >> we are not asking for too much. >> to unions announced vote in favor of the strike. they represent 4500 city workers including airport workers, the housing department and city libraries. calling for better wages, better working conditions asking the city to address 800 job vacancies. paid parental leave is also top of mind. >> the city offers one week of parental leave, which is absolutely crazy. we have requested eight weeks of

parental leave, and that is simply not enough. our requests alone is very low. zach: the city offered four weeks, something they are not willing to accept. >> four weeks is absurd, it's not enough time. zach: the city offered a 5% raise next year and 4% and 3% each year after. the san francisco mayor said anything more could result in cuts and layoffs. they were not available for a meeting that addressed the workers following the public, before going into close session. >> while it may not feel like this to everyone, the city council is working hard to balance the many needs we face as a city and do everything we can to make the right trade-offs. >> the council did not come back with any update, meaning the three-day strike will start as planned tuesday, august 15. the south bay labor council sent this letter to the san jose city manager. a formal notification of the strike sanction indicating that all 101 of its unions will be notified of the strike and

encouraged to not cross picket lines. in san jose, zach fuentes. dan: the oakland police officers association says it's in dire need of a new police chief. members of oakland police officers association are calling for the city to take action in selecting a permanent police chief. this comes seven months after oaklands police chief was fired for suspected misconduct. since then, the police commission has held community meetings to confront the concerns about public safety in the city but the police officers association believes finding a new chief is a critical part of any effort to keep the city safer. >> the city that antioch has named a interim police chief. she shared these photos on her facebook page along with a message from the acting city manager. there were hired by the antioch police department in may of 2020. he previously worked for the richmond police department. he takes over for stephen ford, who announced his retirement

last month as the police department continues to deal with the scandal over racist and homophobic text messages. dan: we are hearing from residents of san coelho's one day after pol say a securit guard shot a suspected shoplifter. police say a suspected shoplifter grabbed the guard's baton and started attacking him. our abc7news reporter explains what happens next. clegg stores are open at the san carlo's home depot after a shootings into people's hospital. for some, this home depot is a place they go to, but now they don't want to go back. >> i hope i don't get shot. we all get up in the morning and hope everything is going to be fine. >> i feel sorry for the guy that was shot in the security guard that had to go through that. >> the san mateo county sheriffs office at a man attempted to steal from the store when a security guard stopped them. they say the shoplifter grabbed the guard's baton and started hitting him. >> at some point he was disarmed

of his baton. the suspect took the security guards baton, struck the security guard in the head and face area. the security guard then discharged to rounds. >> to rounds fired right around the time the store was closing. both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. the sheriffs office said thieves often steal from the store. >> we've had 13 shoplifting calls in the last year in the store. it's a high traffic area. >> they say the shoplifter is out of the hospital and in jail. he faces charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. they say the security guard is still recovering. shoppers are questioning if they are safe. some wonder if having security makes it worse. >> i don't know what's right and what's wrong. i want to catch the guy but i don't know if you should let him go or wet. you don't want to let him go without punishment, but you don't want to get killed. >> this is the latest of a series of incidents at home depot's. in april a worker was shot and killed after trying to shopping -- stop a robbery.

a year before that a man started a fire that burned down the san jose home depot to distract workers while he stole tools. home depot shoppers hope this latest robbery attempt leaves -- leads to change. >> improve the laws. we help people that need help. we help the poor that are poor. we need to work together. ama: bay area has been accused of drugging and assaulting patients and recording the assaults. and there is a search for more victims. the 33-year-old was in a new york courtroom yesterday where he was charged with 50 new accounts including rape, sex abuse, assault, misdemeanor drug possession and unlawful surveillance. it's based on his encounters with six women, including haitians p prosecutors say there are videos of assault involving at least ask others unidentified

women in hotels or homes in new york, las vegas, san francisco and thailand. in the bay area he completed his residency at california pacific adequate center in san francisco and was a third-year resident at santa clara valley medical center. our reporter from our sister station in new york has more on the accusations against them. >> at the most vulnerable time in their lives, young women checked into the hospital and prosecutor say became targets of a predator in a white coat. this attorney represents 19-year-old woman who prosecutor say was drug through her iv and raped by her new york presbyterian gastroenterologist who allegedly recorded the assault on his phone. >> having to go to the district attorney's office and see a video of yourself unconscious getting assaulted after being drugged is unimaginable to deal with. >> people go into a hospital

they need help, they need assistance and to trust their doctors. >> the prosecutors indicted him on 50 counts including rape, sexual abuse and assault and unlawful surveillance stemming from interactions memorialized in dozens of videos and his phone's camera roll. some of the assaults on unsuspecting patients at the flushing hospital where he worked. some in his story a home and even in hotel rooms as far away as thailand. the investigation began last year when a woman accused him of rape, the detective searched his phone and found evidence of many more victims. >> it's always difficult when anyone is -- when anyone is a victim it is always difficult. but to find out some might have known, some might have had a feeling, some had no idea. >> the new york as per terry and fired him on the spot when he was first arrested. the hospital described his responsibility to its patients as a sacred trust. the crimes committed by this individual are heinous, despicable and a fundamental

betrayal of our mission the hospital spokesperson said. the hospital adding it's been fully cooperating with authorities. prosecutors have charged him in connection with six for m's but they say they have video evidence from his phone of as many as six other victims. they still haven't been able to identify. channel seven eyewitness news. dan: there are new details tonight on the san jose fire truck that stopped by a strip club last october and appeared to drop off a woman in a bikini. our media partners obtain the city's investigative report on the incident. the report states that a fire captain recruited a photographer that also worked at the pink poodle strip club to take pictures of him, and that they drove their fire truck to the club to pick up a flash drive with the photos. however, the firefighter said after they picked up the photos, a dancer at the club asked for and received a ride in their truck. ama: developing future of uc berkeley athletics.

they met brian early at 7:00 a.m. to discuss the school's future with a flurry of departures, the pac-12 is down to four universities. there is no word on what transpired during this morning's meeting, but cow along with stanford are being considered by the atlantic coast conference. money is an issue, especially since the school is louisville. dan: tackling a public health crisis by offering more help to those in need. we will tell you about the treatment facility opening in the south bay. ama: a café taking aim at the owner of the oakland a's. the sign fanning john fisher and a few other mlb executives from the establishment.

dan: in santa clara county, people struggling with significant mental health issues will soon have a new place to turn. it's a new residential treatment

program for adults. this abc 7 southbay reporter reports this facility represents help and hope. >> cheers for a step towards the brighter tomorrow for residents and families struggling. 20 months ago a mental health and substance abuse disorder public health crisis was declared in santa clara county. progress towards the county's goal of helping those in need in the form of a new adult residential treatment center. >> this is an exciting and longer waiting time in the improvement of access to mental health and substance use disorder services. >> the former facility will -- detox facility will offer treatment for mental health and co-occurring disorders. these bets will open in the fall and add to the 99 mental health treatment bid secured since the public health crisis was announced. 250 beds are in development throughout the county and efforts to increase mental-health care offered to benefit the entire community. >> the folks receiving services are not just that.

they are us. we are them. >> the services aimed to serve people with significant mental health disorders working on transitioning back into independent living like valerie after she attempted to take her own life, she was able to receive mental health treatment at facilities like this, which she says turned her life around. >> i got for the first time, the feeling of security, the feeling of safety and most importantly, the feeling that i matter. i am somebody. >> she says these facilities represent cocoons, allowing butterflies to emerge. these leaders say these bets represent hope. >> hope that we can prevent substance abuse, prevent homelessness, prevent suicide. prevent the unnecessary and inappropriate incarceration of folks who have mental health issues, not criminal justice issues. >> dustin dorsey, abc7news. ama: tomorrow is an important

ama: bart shared this showing what the new gates will look like. it awarded the contract for 775 of these to go up system wide. bar plans to install the first gates at the west oakland station in september. it will test them there before rolling them out to all stations next year. bart leaders say they hope these gates will cut down on fairy evasion and get writers better access. dan: oakland international airport may get a new name. there's a live look, the name change is part of a rebranding effort designed to attract or travelers and airlines. the hope is those carriers were offer direct service to more destinations. the port of oakland owns and operates the airport. officials say the word oakland will not be taken out of the new name in the airports code will still be oh ak. >> alaska airlines has confirmed that its plan to reduce service from sfo by early next year.

the airline would not go into specifics but the travel website said -- reported dozens of flights will be impacted. alaska says the changes are normal adjustments while cuts are happening nationwide, and alaska is also adding more service to warm weather destinations like the bahamas, miami and palm springs. dan: the bahamas would've been nice in that cold winter and spring we had. ama: abc7news meteorologist sandhya patel is here. a little cool today. sandhya: you definitely noticed it, especially if you were inland with those double digit drop in temperatures. take a look, 21 degrees drop in concord compared to yesterday at this time. it is running 10 degrees cooler in san jose, santa rosa, 18 degrees cooler. and of course, our sea breeze is playing a role, gusted 25 sfo. 28 sustained in san francisco, temperatures right now in our warmest inland locations in the

we will have the usual summer heat next week. dan: chinatown's iconic red lanterns have returned. a ribbon cutting ceremony was held today in san francisco to celebrate these new lanterns. after months of fundraising, 180 lanterns have gone up. they remain tourist attractions for years before all of the storms this past winter destroyed them. they also provide safe lighting for people walking in the area at night but the new ones are up and functional. >> dj casper, creator of the hit song the cha-cha slide has died. his wife confirmed his death in a statement to our sister station abc news chicago. >> you hear this song all the time. you hear, everybody, clap your hands. before he passed he said in a news interview in may that he was diagnosed with kidney and liver cancer. casper shared that the cha-cha slide was initially created for his nephew as an aerobic exercise. his 2000 hit sparked an
