fire of 2018. that was the deadliest. now this fire is the deadliest. over the last 10 years. >> now at 9:00 devastation in maui continues breed the death toll for the wildfire -- for the wildfire coming overnight. it is sunday, august 13. i'm stephanie sierra. we will have more on the aftermath in maui in a moment. we begin with the weather. let's get to meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning everyone. waking up to plenty of sunshine unless you are right at the shoreline. live doppler 7 shows all the fog along the coast and high clouds coming in from this sierra nevada. santa rosa has been a bit as well as half moon bay and the golden gate bridge. this view from our former peak camera is beautiful. air quality moderate east bay. upper 90 santa clara valley. low to mid 90's at a fire danger index brings us to a moderate level as we get into the warmth

today. the upper elevation, the hills, very, very dry brush. warm temperatures will last for another for days or so. from our tower camera a pretty view of san francisco, 61 there, 71 san jose. the sh low 60's santa rosa. 70's entered the inland valleys. san francisco beautiful today. 80's around the bay and heat just beginning in the inland valleys with upper 90's today. ended with a car fire in the east bay. this video just in shows multiple sideshows that happened in vallejo and oakland overnight. people are seeing getting dangerously close to cars, doing doughnuts area you can see them right in the middle of the intersection. some were even lighting fireworks. very dangerous.

the maui fires are now considered the deadliest wildfire disaster in modern u.s. history. overnight the death toll increased to 93. authorities searched through 3% of the damaged area. an estimated 1000 people are still missing. hawaiian governor josh green says over 2000 structures have been destroyed or damaged. he says at least 1000 rooms have been secured for support staff and those displaced by the fires. abc news reporter gio ben tells us about the efforts today. >> this morning communities are trying to recover under the wake of the deadliest u.s. welfare in a century. overnight the grim reality from officials. at least 93 lives lost since t devastating in front of broker tuesday. >> two days ago the number was smaller and it will continue to rise. >> the fire damaged more than 2200 structures and burned more than 2100 acres. >> the devastation is so

complete that you see metal twisted in ways you cannot imagine. you see nothing structures left. >> the agency deploying more than 150 workers to the island to assist in recovery. across mali people sharing harrowing tales of survival. annalise cochran was able to escape the fire by jumping into the ocean, telling me she was clinging to a wall for more than seven hours. >> out to to survive? >> i've climbed over the seawall into the ocean and when the fire was happening and the cars were exploded we would duck into the water and put our mouth as close to the surface us we could so we could breathe. >> now anger at the local government. residents say they were not given enough warning. armenta set on caught up with people -- our melissa a don caught up with people having trouble returning to their homes. >> ice on the management of the situation whatsoever. there was one police car with the little blue lights flashing.

have not been affected. but maybe your family or friends. >> sadly that was too true. it seems that most everyone we found out the festival has a personal connection to the maui firestorm tragedy including yves delacruz from san jose. >> we have a friend that died. he got burned. >> laura garcia deguzman is worried about her college roommates family that were forced to evacuate. >> they are in the shelters unfortunately. the fire was in their backyards. so they had to take shelter in their son's school. >> the hawaii community foundation is collecting donations for maui relief. jerry watt and abe gave $100. >> i saw on the news that they need help. >> hawaiian airlines asking customers to donate airline miles to help transport red cross volunteers to maui. >> trying to donate our miles, anything we can. our hearts are with the hawaiian

go to abc7news.com for a list fundraisers, charities, and verified nonprofits all helping the of hawaii recover from the devastating wildfires. authorities say they have been able to stop the spread of a fire that broke out in livermore overnight. it was first reported around 10:00 p.m.. flames could be seen north of highway 580 near las positas college. the fire burned about 15 acres of brush along collier canyon road. another brush fire in the south bay. san jose crews expended a cleaning up after a fire in mount hamilton. this morning we can report progress overnight. this is video of when the flames were still burning around 11:00 last night near the popular grandview restaurant. it burned about 10 acres. san jose fire says no structures were threatened. in the north bay, an update on a public health crisis. marin county health officials say accidental overdoses are now the leading cause of death for residents 55 and younger.

the county health department launched a campaign to try to tackle the epidemic. seven out of 10 overdose deaths involved fentanyl. there has been at least one overdose per week for the last three years. they are trying to raise awareness about narcan, that can save a victim's life. new details on a flight scare in december. they report by the national transportation safety board reveals a plane on its way from maui to san francisco nosedived in the air about one minute after takeoff. this morning we learned that miscommunication was to blame. the plane plunged after the captain called for an adjustment to the flap settings. he asked for to be set from 20 to five. the copilot told investigators he thought the captain asked for 15, not five, causing the plane to nosedive. the pilot quickly shifted to recovery mode and got back on track. >>

california about 100 years ago. wolves have been slowly wandering back into the state over the past decade and there are now three known will fax in the state. -- wolf packs in the state. the santa -- salvation army is asking santa clara county to help house people as they remodel their shelter from 70 beds to 112 for both men and women. in the last year the service helped 600 men find housing through their emanuel house emergency shelter. on tuesday the board of supervisors will vote on asking the county administration to present options for funding. the south bay is getting a swiftie stimulus. for two taylor's concerts in santa clara county a couple weeks ago brought in an estimated $33 million to the local economy. 60,000 people went. 70% of the people were from out of town. the traveling swifties

around $90 million on hotels, food, and entertainment. the super bowl pooled in an estimated $248 million for santa clara county in 2016. a weekend full of music across the bay area. the san jose summer dress festival continues today. the annual festival is hosted in downtown san jose at the plaza day cesar chavez park celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip hop with big daddy kane headlining the main stage. it features latin, jazz, funk, and soul artists. today the big finale at outside lands. day three is here. organizers expect over 200,000 people who have attended throughout the weekend. today the big headliners, megan thee stallion, odesza and lil yachty.

the giveaway included an teachers supply giveaway. the goal was to ensure the bay area's most underserved communities are ready for the school year. speaking of helping out, doing that for kids in need ahead of the school year hosting the second we are the village giveaway handing out free backpacks and school supplies to scholars in the tenderloin. an estimated 1500 families live below the federal poverty line in the neighborhood. the church raised almost $8,000 for the backpack giveaway, double its original goal. we love to see the community getting back in that way. >> yes. some kids are already back at school. it is not too hot for some. but in the inland valleys it will be warns in a couple days. 78 today in oakland, a nice afternoon, 96 antioch. upper 80's north bay and south bay 80's around the bayshore and the accuweather 7-day forecast is getting harder tomorrow. tuesday and wednesday inland,
