city official to a traffic jam he is calling dangerous and unnecessary. and another sideshow's care, this one involving fire and fireworks. >> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. >> off, no alarm, no text telling us we needed to evacuate. >> it has been five days since the start of the deadly wildfires, still burning in maui. the comments from many fire victims are starting to turn from fear and despair to anger. thank you for joining us, j.r. stone. let's get right to the latest from maui. j.r.: at least 93 people have died from the wildfires, marking the deadliest wildfire disaster in u.s. history. just a small percent of the fire zone has been scorched and searched, with officials describing troubling scenes as they find and identify remains.

according to the pacific disaster center, more than 2200 structures are damaged or destroyed on maui, and the town was decimated in a matter of a few hours. abc's melissa -- melissa. has more from maui, where locals are showing frustration. christ can -- teams continued to search looking for victims or possible survivors of the deadly fires which tore through parts of maui beginning tuesday. >> this is the largest natural disaster we have ever experienced. it is also going to be a natural disaster which is going to take an incredible amount of time to recover from. more than 22 hundred structures damaged, the flames burning more than 2100 acres. >> patients, prayers, and perseverance. that is what we need. >> many now it works -- expressing anger at local government. >> there was no alert, no alarm, no text. >> i saw no management of the

situation whatsoever. >> authorities responded saying that the speed and intensity of the flames complicated efforts to warn citizens. resident biden signed a federal disaster declaration, giving fema the ability to bring in all of its federal partners to help with recovery. on sunday, the president appeared to suggest that he would be visiting the devastated areas. thousands of people displaced after their homes were destroyed, and many residents still unaccounted for. >> we are looking for some relatives that are missing. >> the committee trying to reunite families. one resident created a public spreadsheet where people can track down their loved ones. by early sunday, nearly 5000 names were on the list. and still, threat the weekend, long lines of residents trying to get back to their homes. >> they will not let us get through. >> maui police say that access to that main road is for

emergency crews only. they asked residents to take an alternate route and some locals described that as a dangerous route. melissa down. >> to get critical supplies to maui residents who have been devastated by the wildfires, as tara campbell shows us, here in san francisco there are still -- is still time to get donations on the boat. >> dockworkers determined to get at least one container filled and set to see, providing much-needed supplies to those devastated in maui wildfires. >> toiletries, feminine products, clothing, courage bags. pet food. >> this is a member of the international longshore and warehouse union and she says it is expected to take about 13 days for the shipment to dock. >> this container will go to the port of oakland, get loaded on

said they needed help, it was a no-brainer. we had to do that. >> back at san francisco, a message from maui. >> i wish you all the best, and good on you for fighting the fire. fantastic. >> tara campbell, abc 7 news. >> donations of all kinds continue to pour in for fire victims, the world kitchen tweeted this video of a convoy of trucks heading to west maui with thousands of meals for first responders and families, west maui is the area of hawaii that has been most affected by the fire damage. a lot of people want to know what they could do to help. you can go to abc7news.com, where you will find a list of fundraisers, charities, and verified nonprofits that are all helping the people of hawaii recover from the wildfires. it wildfire in lake county near the county line this afternoon has burned 15 acres.

cal fire is reporting progress in keeping that fire from spreading, and it is located off of highway 20 to the east of clear lake oaks. a portion of that highway is closed. water dropping helicopters and air tankers have been called to help with the containment, and you can see some of the smoke here in this video. 14 fire engines, and other resources, are unseen on the ground. the images seem to get more alarming. another weekend and another dangerous scene from a bay area sideshow, this one involving both fire and fireworks. reports of injuries, but this sideshow ended with a car fire. this is video from the multiple sideshows that happened in vallejo and oakland overnight. people are seen getting dangerously close to spinning cars, some even lighting fireworks.

supervisors about the expansion of self-driving car technology in the city. this follows the friday night fiasco, where cruise taxis became disabled across town. this is what it look like in north beach. the supervisor of this district sought 10 cars stalled, creating gridlock. this was a day after the state public utilities commission gave the ok for cruise and waymo to be able to charge for 24/7 rubber taxi rides. they blamed the outside lands music festival for disrupting its wireless bandwidth connectivity, but the supervisor said that is no excuse. >> what that portends is that in a major disaster like what we saw in lahaina or san francisco with the loma prieta earthquake, that these things will turn into 2000 pound bricks on our streets at the precise time that we need to be putting all of our

mounting. the former president facing a possible fourth indictment this week for his alleged attempts to interfere in the 2020 election in georgia. during a phone call in january of 2021, he urged the secretary of georgia to find votes for him to win. the district attorney says that her work is accomplished and at least two witnesses have been called to testify early this week before a grand jury. trump has been unsuccessful in trying to disqualify her from prosecuting him and has denied all wrongdoing. gabriel sterling, a top elections official has repeatedly rebuked the former president's claims of fraud. he thinks that trumps rhetoric, including a recent campaign act -- ad attacking willis could lead to violence. >> we counted the ballots three times. he lost the state. he continues to say he did not lose it. and it's just crating a lot of tension and a lot of chaos. >> president biden's son is facing his own legal challenges.

he was set to plead guilty to tax charges last month and would have agreed to eight diversion on another gun charge but the deal collapsed. merrick garland appointed david weiss as special counsel to oversee his ears long investigation into hunter biden. his attorney spoke out on face of the nation. >> i'm prof -- confident that if the prosecutor looks at the facts, the evidence in the law, the only conclusion can be what the conclusion was on july 26. there is no new evidence to be found. >> prosecutors saying that the parties are at an impasse and the government believes the case will not resolve short of a trial. the judge has given hunter biden until monday to respond. j.r.: an event solve the teacher shortage is scheduled to take place in sacramento tomorrow. state superintendent of public instruction tony thurman -- will post a summit and

three degrees. here's the view from sutro tower looking over san francisco, 64 degrees here in the city with low-mid 70's in oakland and 82 degrees at san jose, 75 degrees at palo alto, 59 degrees at half moon bay. low clouds and fog in the golden gate the picture there all day. it is two degrees at novato and santa rosa, 39 degrees in napa, hovering in the 90's elsewhere. a beautiful view from emeryville, sunlight reflecting off the bay waters and a few clouds in the sky, our forecast headlines are these, and mix of high and low clouds and petty drizzle overnight. triple digit inland heat tomorrow through wednesday, and a cooler to -- pattern develops at the end of the week. for the overnight hours, the passage of more high clouds, patchy drizzle near the coast line, and a lot of it on the coast. that all clears out early tomorrow, and it continues
