outside lands festival wrapped up. they have reached out to police to get more information on this discovery and we will update you in the newscast if we get them. today, the san francisco, a 10 car backup of stalled cruise vehicles. this after the newly approved expansion of the cars. tonight we were there in that same problem area near outside lands to see if there were further issues. >> what may have been only five to 10 minutes felt like an attorney because you just watched. -- an eternity becau watched. >> still hundreds missing wildfires in west maui tonight. tonight, a bay area resident waiting for a phone call to be returned. i am j.r. stone. there are countless stories of families and loved ones left

waiting in painful unknown. at least 93 have died in the fires but that number is expected to climb with those unaccounted for. tonight, we begin with reporter melissa done on the worst wildfires in recent u.s. history. reporter: parts of my we left charge -- maui so far, only a small portion of destroyed structures have been searched. for human remains. >> we are going as fast as we can, but only 3% have been searched. reporter: l.a. county has sent 12 of their cadaver dogs to the search. all of this as families are still waiting to reconnect with their loved ones because we are talking about 1000 people still unaccounted for. jill schilling's family says they think he died.

he was hunkered down in an apartment complex destroyed in the fire. among those confirmed killed, carol hartley. she was running to escape the flames with her longtime partner. he survived but suffered third-degree burns. >> it is all fire. she had to run to go and she cared about other people. melissa: many survivors say they had no warning. the hawaii emergency management agency confirming none of the island's comprehensive siren systems were activated. >> i have authorized a comprehensive review of what happened in the early hours of the fire and after. we will find out what we could have done to prevent such loss of life. melissa: as residents begin to pick up the pieces, some believe state officials should create policies to prevent outsiders from granting land from i residents who have already lost so much. >> we are all hurt and grieving

and we are in this now, a lot of it completely gone,. but we are still here. melissa: abc news. j.r.: a man in venetia says he has lost contact with his family in maui. he last heard from them on friday. tonight he tells abc reporter ryan curry that's all he can do is hope they are ok. reporter: the wildfires continue to devastate maui with the death toll climbing. others have lost con tact with their loved ones. >> for three days i have not been sleeping, stressed out and worried and not being able to get a hold of anybody. ryan: they live next to the wild fire areas of lahaina. >> i am fairly confident they are ok, but there is still that gnawing in the back of my head that something happened, and i do not know because i have not

talked to them. ryan: the fire is prompting others in the bay area to help. this is a professor at cal state east bay, whose family is also in maui and currently helping those who have lost their homes. she fears not just for what is happening now, but for what the future might hold for that community. >> existing health and incom disparities, education and income disparities exist within the hawaiian community compared to other people in hawaii. what we are looking at now is exacerbation of amplifying those disparities even more. ryan: a relief fund has been opened to help those impacted in maui. the money will be used for various resources. >> the firefighters who lost their homes, have been injured, and the public who is devastatingly affected by this horrific fire we have seen on

take a look at this satellite radar image moving over the last 12 hours, though pressure up in san francisco where the circulation is sweeping. thunderstorms and showers are across the sierra and the central valley, and now some of those clouds will be moving through in the bay area, producing light scattered showers, and even now looks like thunderstorms passing through the delta area. tomorrow morning, it will leave you a little humid in the morning and it will be mild as a few clouds will be lingering. we have 68 degrees and 64 degrees around the bay. mid 80's inland, upper 70's around the bay, mid-60's for the coast. 4:00 p.m., up to 100 degrees in the hotspots inland, near 70 on the coast. sunset is still really warm, near 90 inland. i will have the full forecast a little later. j.r.: we look forward to that

bid developing news in what has become a never ending debate over south -- self driving cars california. a fleet of cruise vehicles ran into another snag going viral once again. 10 driverless cars stalled, creating gridlock. this after the state public utilities commission gave the ok for cruise in waymo charging 24/7 for robo taxi rides. >> about an hour after m outside lands stopped and crowd started to head home friday night, 10 driverless cars stalled in the north beach area, creating gridlock. >> the traffic backed all the way up to columbus and broadway. reporter: in a social media post on, formerly known as twitter, blames outside lands for interfering with its wireless bandwidth. but that is no excuse, according

they prefer the driverless option. >> i low-key feel safer because rideshare is sometimes speed a lot, especially going up hills. says the city and county will be taking steps this week for redress to the decision to greenlight robo taxis. >> it could lead to catastrophe, so i am calling on governor newsom to do something about this because the local government has no control. we have no ability to regulate, no laws we are allowed to pass. reporter: in san francisco, lena howland, abc 7 news. j.r.: new details tonight on a lumen strike in san jose. two unions representing san jose workers say in a statement the city has made a proposal that moves significantly toward our needs. the two unions had been set to walk out for 72 hours starting

>> this week, a week of music changers. that is coming up this week at 1:00 p.m. on abc 7. j.r.: welcome back. look at this heart stopping video from an airshow in michigan earlier today. two people on top -- on board this retired soviet warbird safely parachuted down before the plane crashed. this happened during the yankee air museum's thunder over michigan airshow. authorities say miraculously there were no serious injuries to either of the two on the plane or anyone on the ground. the ntsb and faa are investigating why the jet ran into trouble. president biden is headed back to the west coast this week and will travel to laycock -- lake tahoe on friday.

president biden is staying in the tahoe area until next thursday, nearly a full week. in june, his allocated more than $3 billion to help find invasive species from spreading at the lake. tomorrow, a new push to get more teachers into the classroom in california. the state superintendent is hosting a teacher recruiting summit at the capitol. it is designed as a brainstorming session from people of all types of educational groups from school districts, he took -- teacher credential and programs, and pipeline programs. the goal is to find ways of fixing the statewide teacher shortage by increasing compensation, focusing on training, and improving working conditions. the music has come to a close at golden gate park. the electronic dj group odessa was the headliner today and close out the festival with a bang. yesterday, we had a performer of

looking at the bay area bridge. low clouds, patchy drizzle overnight. triple digits inland east through tuesday. cooler weather arrives for the end of the week. this will continue and we will see these high clouds passing over with enough moisture that will feel a bit humid tomorrow in the early part of the day. then we have the sunny skies and some hot weather in our inland areas. in the south bay, 90 in santa clara, and eight morgan hill. in the peninsula, mid to upper 80's. the coast will be nice and mild tomorrow as well. downtown san francisco will top out at 73 tomorrow. the coast will see the likes of mid to upper 80's. in the east bay, mid to upper 80's, but the inland east bay will sizzle where the usual hotspots out there will hit or

>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. >> there was no alert off, no alarm, no text telling us we needed to evacuate. j.r.: sheer pain and anger coming as a search for survivors continues in maui. now the deadliest wildfire in the u.s. in more than 100 years, are now calls to find out how much could have been prevented. at last check, an estimated people are still missing. at least 93 people have died, though officials warn that number is still set to climb higher, just a small percent of

the fire zone has been searched. as many as 4500 people are in need of shelter. more than 2200 buildings are damaged or destroyed. the town was decimated in a matter of hours. tonight, the state of hawaii is formally reviewing its emergency response, including why it did not activate its robust emergency siren system. dockworkers up and down the coast of california are stepping up to give critical supplies to maui. as abc 7 news reported tara campbell shows us, there is still time to donate. tara: one pallet at a time. bay area dockworkers determined to get at least one container filled and sent to sea, providing supplies to those devastated in the wildfires. >> toiletries, feminine products, clothing, pet. tara: gina is a member of international longshore and warehouse union, local 10, and

happening this week's san jose council members will decide whether the city should get into the power business. the council will vote tuesday on whether to establish a san jose power department, the first step towards building a municipal utility company. the ideas years from reality and there is a significant opposition, including from pg&e, which provides much of san jose with electricity. in presidential front-runner for the gop, donald trump, is now facing another possible indictment this week for his alleged efforts to interfere with the 2020 election in georgia. on the other side, as president biden seeks reelection, his son hunter is facing legal troubles of his own. our reporter has the full story. reporter: donald trump is leading in the polls against his republican opponents as he seeks the gop presidential nomination,

but his legal troubles are mounting. trump facing the possible fourth indictment this week. during a phone call in january of 2021, trump urged georgia's terry of state to find enough votes for him to win georgia. fulton county district attorney fanny willingness -- fanny willis has her work cut out for her. trump has been unsuccessful in disqualifying willis from prosecuting him. atop elections official for georgia has revealed the former president's attempts at saying that a campaign add attacking willis could lead to violence once again. >> they counted the ballots three times, he lost the state, and continue to say he did not lose it and is just creating a lot of tension and chaos. reporter: meanwhile, hunter

biden is facing his own legal challenges. he was said to plead guilty to misdemeanor charges last month and would have agreed to a pretrial diversion on a separate gun charge, but the deal collapsed. merrick garland appointed a special counsel to the case. >> i am confident that if prosecutor does is what has been done for the last five years, look at the facts and evidence of, the only conclusion can be what the conclusion was on july 26. it is no new evidence to be found. reporter: the parties are at an impasse on negotiations and the government believes the case will not resolve short of a trial. the judge has given hunter biden until monday to respond. j.r.: in the n rosa police are investigating an illegal card skimming device found at a 7leven gas station. according to the press democrat, a worker foundhe credit card
