being shot in one person is in custody. good evening. larry: and i am larry beil. we were expecting an update coming up soon. here's what we know so far. y: san jose police -- karina: as a police it ofcers were spotted to a whe report of a faistuance. that isn ofcer was shot and the person who shot that officerbarraded themselves in a home for hours but eventually was taken into custody. larry: we have abc 7 news teen coverage with dustin dorsey at the hospital, monitoring the condition of the officer. karina: let's begin with zach fuentes, who is live at the scene where this all unfolded. he joins us now. zach? zach: hey guys. just before 8:00 is when the call came in. the scene has been active for many hours. traffic is finally moving down meridian south, heading toward

parker we are on meridian now. remember, police announced just after 15 this afternoon that a suspect was in custody, more than five hours after that initial call. it has been a shocking morning for those involved in for all those who live and work around here. moments after those flashbangs rang out in this neighborhood, officers were seen taking a man from one of the police confirming that a suspect was taken into custody. all of this after san jose police say they responded to a home for a report of a family disturbance. >> shortly after arrival, officers may contact and immediately began taking fire from the suspect. when officer was hit by gunfire and was transported to a local hospital for that injury. zach: many were close enough to be started by all the activity at the suspect was taken into custody. >> i heard a big old boom, and i thought maybe i was a little tired, because my eyes just started watering. the aroma of ammonia came over

me, and i was like wow, that i saw one of the guys rubbing his eyes, and i knew it was not just me. zach: one man lives next to the home police for responding to -- police were responding to. >> i've never seen anything remotely close to this, so i'm just astounded. zach: some were forced to stay inside their home or cap outside the police perimeter for hours. like this woman, who did not want her face showed. >> i came back to go to the store, and when i came back out, i could not get through. everything was blocked off. zach: the road closures impacting multiple large and small businesses, like this one, which were not able to accept customers for most of the day. he was going to open when police stopped him. >> "get back in your store." zach: those who live in the area are still trying to cope with the overwhelming seen. >> i'm just shocked. i'm shocked. zach: so again, police had not

here around 10:00 a.m. we were the first on the scene, and there was a heavy police presence, san jose police and santa clara county sheriff's office, here at the emergency room. this is one of only two level one trauma center here in the south bay. this one located 1.4 for the scene where the officer was shot. around 12:30 this afternoon, police chief anthony mott and assistant chief paul joseph were seen leaving the department. less than an hour later, police were seen apprehending the suspect. a cruiser was parking the main lot after officers removed items from the suv. we do not know any details as to why. well wishes have flooded social media today including the police officers association and san jose mayor matt mahan, who offered his prayers this morning a social media, saying his thoughts are with their family during this unimaginable time.
