credited with saving his partner after she was shot during an hours long standoff. amanda del castillo's live in san jose with the latest. amanda: the san jose police chief calling it an ambush that wounded an officer on the force for 10 years. she is the first female officer in the department to be shot while in the line of duty. she is still recovering this morning at santa clara valley medical center, she is in stable but critical condition. let us take you back to yesterday morning at the hours long standoff at a two-story condo complex. two officers were responding to a family disturbance around 8:20. the caller telling the police her husband was drunk and tried to hit her. the responding officers were ambushed only 30 seconds after they arrived at the complex. the suspect went onto the balcony and shot at the officer.

the female officer was shot in the upper body outside of her vest. >> we are extremely blessed that we did not lose another officer. by a coward and convicted felon with a gun he should never have had. amanda: they are not sharing the name of the injured officer per her request, but a southbay native says the officers partner is his brother. without hesitation or consideration for his own safety, the officers partner took her from the line of fire to a place of safety, where he began to treat her injuries. we are told the suspect was taken into custody after a roughly four hour standoff. the 44-year-old is a convicted felon out on probation. jobina: for the four-year-old girl hit and killed in san francisco.

it happened near oracle park tuesday. people are leaving flowers into locations at the intersection and have placed a stroller there. the driver who hit the girl and her father is under arrest and facing multiple charges. the father is in the hospital in critical condition. in a statement, luminary findings point to this not being a speeding crash, but a failure to yield when turning. the bicycle coalition is asking the city to make changes. >> it should allow for pedestrians to have priority in the intersection, then cars waiting or yielding to pedestrians as they cross. jobina: 19 people have been in 12 crashes on fourth and king between 2019 and 2023. tuesday's crash was the first death. kumasi: in the east bay, the fight over the effort to recall pamela price is taking shape.

it is an unincorporated section of san mateo county of daly city. it comes after years of scandal and alleged fiscal mismanagement in the department. if it does fold, the san mateo supervisor says he wants the sheriff's office to respond to emergency calls. jobina: crews are battling multiple wildfires near the california oregon border, were evacuations already in place. 20 wildfires are burning on the national forest land. officials are reporting increased fire activity, like substantial wind. you can see all of them here through the online abc 7 california wildfire tracker. the largest is being called the head fire, it has burned more than 3500 acres. firefighters say each of the 20 fires were sparked by lightning, starting on monday. the california office of emergency services strike team

multiple charges. those who know the area tell us the intersection where it happened as a trouble spot. some say they even fear for their safety. i drove by this memorial that is growing for the four-year-old girl struck and killed by a car in san francisco. people are leaving notes, flowers and more into locations at the intersection, including in a stroller. the police confirmed the girl was being pushed in a stroller by her parents who were visiting san francisco and crossing. the police have not released details on how the collision happened, but confirmed the driver stayed on the scene and identified her as a 71-year-old. she is facing multiple charges. >> due to the investigation, led by the traffic collision investigation unit who also arrived on scene, they determined probable and arrested the driver for three counts of
