roadway. temperatures mild and a uniform range, low to mid-60's across the region. morning low clouds, patchy drizzle giving way to some your afternoons. mild at the coast and turning warmer over the weekend. today, mild to warm. no big jumping temperatures. mid-60's at the coast. mid to upper 70's along the bay shoreline. highs in the inland east bay upper 80's to near 90, but warmer weather comes later. here's a look at traffic with sue. sue: we are popping to san jose. 101, taillights headed southbound, underneath 880, you can see 101 and 880 moving nicely. we have a problem on 101 with the sig alert. let's head towards gilroy with two left lanes blocked and an accident here. if your commute takes you north on 101 to san jose, san martin,

that is where the accident is near leaves lee. you can see a backup. we will head over to westbound 80 where we have an accident. it is a tesla that has gotten into an accident, partially blocking the lane of traffic. traffic is stacked up through richmond, westbound on 80, as well. kumasi: breaking news in the east bay. we are following a large police presence in martinez this morning. officers are in the area of pacheco boulevard and sunrise drive, close to highway four, interstate 60, the interchange. amanda del castillo is live at the same with more. amanda: county sheriff's crime scene investigators just pulled onto the scene a few moments ago. we know that pleasant hill police, that apartment also on scene, providing usual aid. they are taking care of security. all of the still developing at the hour. a lot of the attention has been

focused on a large area around the velvet cannabis dispensary on sunrise drive in martinez. in the last hour, contra costa county sheriff's deputies pushed us back about 50 feet and we are working to confirm what happened here overnight. we are told officers responded to a possible burglary at the dispensary, working to confirm whether shots were exchanged between officers, suspect. details on whether anyone was injured, how the suspects were involved, how any officers were involved and responded, all of that is still unclear. the suspect vehicle apparently crashed, which in their distance from where we are standing, we can see a car halfway onto the sidewalk was plenty of damage. it is still pretty difficult to see anything from where we are standing because they pushed us so far away. we did approach the same from the opposite end, and all of the activity is happening on an incline where the dispensary is

located. a lot of people who work in the area in construction zones and neighboring businesses, as well, they are all coming onto the scene, asking questions about what is going on. we are trying to figure that out as this is just a large police presence here along sunrise drive in martinez. amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. kumasi: developing news on the standing fbi raid on officers tied to the antioch and pittsburgh police departments. the indictment, available by federal investigators yesterday, alleges excessive force and fraud between 10 law-enforcement officers. seven of the officers are no longer with the departments, and three are on leave. the fbi raided the homes of the officers involved in an 18 month long investigation on a wide range of charges, including civil-rights violations, wire fraud, and conspiracy to distribute

it also exposed the racist text messaging scandal at the antioch police department. >> these four indictments describe a group of officers as though they were above the law. >> i do not see the feds making a splash this big unless they had something big to prosecute. like i said, to me, the wire fraud charge, charges, are very interesting because that means there are transactions that happen here. and those are provable. kumasi: more than 100 fbi agents were involved in the arrests that have happened in texas, hawaii and california the last few days. eight of the officers already had first appearances in court. the crimes have maximum sentences of 10 years to 20 years in jail if convicted. an update from the abc 7 news iteam, oakland wrapped up the formal review of a ransomware attack that crippled its data systems earlier this year. hackers infiltrated oakland's networks in january.

since then, the ransom group has dumped home addresses, drivers licenses, social security numbers, and more on the dark web. yesterday, oakland announced no more data has been released since april. the city has secured 10 william dollars in funding to strengthen its information systems going forward. jobina: the 44-year-old man accused of shooting an officer is expected in court today. the officer is in critical but stable condition. it happened wednesday morning when police responded to a report of a fatal disturbance. a caller said her husband was drunk and tried to hit her. the two officers responding were ambushed already i can seconds after responding to the complex. abc 7 spoke with one man who says he lives a couple doors down from the home that will be surrounded during a four hour standoff with the suspect. >> upstairs, knocked on our house and was like, hey, we have to escort you out.

my fiancé and i, they sandwiched between two police officers and we were told to leave. jobina: the san jose police chief says the police officer was shot in the upper body outside of her vest. he added it was a f response from her partner and that is what led to her survival. hurricane hilary is on its way to the west coast and expected to weaken once it gets close. heavy rain and flooding is likely in parts of southern california early next week. once hillary makes landfall, it would make it the first tropical storm to hit the state in more than 80 years. tillery intensified to a category 4 storm overnight as it spiraled toward the baja mexico peninsula. in southern california, people are preparing in orange county. public works crews built blockades on the beach to protect buildings from potential flooding. governor newsom says the state's emergency response teams are ready.

kumasi: activist groups are suing uc berkeley because of alleged damage done to people's park last year. they are accusing the university of destroying and apparently -- and irreparably damaging trees and more. the people's front council and the people's park project are sticking $4.5 million in destruction of what they view as their property. the lawsuit was filed on alameda county superior court this week. jobina: the salvation army wants

to create a rehabilitation center for one of their buildings for people recovering from drug addiction, according to partners at the san francisco standard. the charity would demolish its property at 850 harrison st. the potential high-rise would serve up to 220 people who would be required to complete the first step of drug treatments. kumasi: good news for san francisco, encouraging signs tourists are coming back to the city. >> we came to see a giant skate, so the golden gate bridge, and chinatown. kumasi: the fog. jobina: yeah. [laughter] kumasi: the city held its first visitors summit yesterday at the fairmont hotel. the numbers are well below pre-pandemic, but there is a recovery happening. sf travel says the demand for hotel rooms is up 15% from this time last year. >> much of our events have been canceled but event sizes are smaller. >> our economy is very strong

with an unemployment rate of 3%, it's better than national average. kumasi: events like taylor swift and dead-end company concerts gave a boost. the apex on it is november and that is expected to pump more money into the local economy. jobina: new developments in the southbay. a massive 30 acre query that has been around decades is owing to shut down due to environmental challenges. santa clara county supervisors agreed an agreement to close the lehigh cement plant in the hills near cupertino, where they say the plant saw over 2000 violations over two year period because of an environmental issue. nonprofits green foothills says it was the worst source of air pollution in the country. >> the quarry was also a source of pollution for the creek. it was discharging selenium into the creek, which is a toxin that causes birth defects in

[laughter] let me show you what is happening with our weather right now. live view from the exploratorium camera. clouds lingering out of the bay will get sunnier in the morning hours. we have temperature readingsat a uniform range, low to mid-60's to upper 70's -- mid to upper 60's. it is clearing over in the east bay at emeryville, 61 north of santa rosa. mid-60's novato. low 60's fairfield and livermore. highs today will range from mid-60's at the coast. maybe upper 60's. some coastal locations will be mild. mid-to upper 70's around the bay. upper 80's inland.

let me show you why it has been so humid, continue to be. upper level low offshore with a counterclockwise situation has been cooling subtropical moisture into the bay area for several days, giving us humid feelings. it will become more humid because of hurricane hilary, which is well to the south. category four hurricane south of cabo san lucas. as it moves northward and continues to weaken into a tropical storm and depression, it will enter interior southern california and bring moisture with it. that will produce widespread rainfall for much of the state. not much of that is likely to move into the bay area. just a little bit maybe early next week. here's a look at the accuweather forecast. weather coming our way over the weekend with highs in the mid-90's, upper 70's to around 80 near the bayshore line. monday we start to feel the heavier effects of the remnants of hurricane hilary, more humid, cloudier, and a chance of showers.

jobina: welcome back. one east bay high school will get a new mascot after they voted to change the original. so the minutemen mascot will become the bears. the decision comes after the board of mount diablo unified school district voted in favor this week to approve the new mascot. district officials say there have been talks about changing it for years after deciding to

replace human mascots with nonhuman ones. they say they want to make sure the mascot is more inclusive. the cost to change everything is estimated to be around $200,000. this was a fun story earlier. many of us, our moms are our biggest cheerleaders, but for some football players in wisconsin, their moms turned into teammates on the field. it is called mom's practice. it allows the moms to get the full experience of being on the team, and we mean helmet, the pads, and the tackling of other children. >> it is amazing. all i could hear was rawr in my head. >> i was so proud. >> scary. i could tell she was waiting to tackle me. >> at the last minute, i almost gave him a hug. obviously, i was going to hit him not too hard. jobina: cute. the first practice was held last year, and because of positive feedback, they returned again this season. i the looks of it, it will

jobina: we continue to track breaking news in the east bay this morning where there is a large police presence in martinez, happening on sunrise drive pacheco boulevard. amanda del castillo out is live at the scene with the latest. amanda: we are getting our first bit of sunlight along sunrise drive. a lot of activity going on in the area surrounding the velvet cannabis dispensary. additional contra costa county deputies are arriving on scene at this hour. pleasant hill police are on scene providing mutual aid and security. details remain limited. we are working to confirm what happened overnight. we are hearing officers responded to a possible burglary at the dispensary. we have asked martinez police whether shots were exchanged between officers and the suspect , and we are pushing for details

on whether anyone was injured, how many suspects were involved, how many officers responded, all unclear still. we can see a car halfway onto the sidewalk and badly damaged. at this point after reaching out to the contra costa county sheriff's office, and they dispensary, we have not heard back. plenty of officers are on scene. when we got here around 5:00 this morning, contra costa county sheriff's deputies pushed us back 50 feet, expanding the crime scene, so it is quite large. we drove to the other side of the scene but it was difficult to see anything because of where the business park is on an incline, so you cannot see anything above what seems to be a bunch of planters. still trying to piece together what happened, but we know it is an ongoing investigation and active along sunrise drive. amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. kumasi: new this morning, a driverless crew car and a fire

truck crashed in san francisco late last night at the intersection of polk in the tenderloin district. gloria rodríguez is in the newsroom with the video and the response from cruise early this morning. gloria: a passenger was injured in this collision. this comes about one week after cpuc voted to allow crews to expand robo taxi services in the city, allowing them to charge for rider-less drive clock. this footage shows a crews car that collided with the san francisco fire department truck, responding to a call nearby. driverless car with its passenger side doors smashed in. you can see the video. it happened after 10:00 last night at polk street in san francisco. crews posted on social media that one of their cars entered the intersection on a green

light and was struck by an emergency vehicle on the way to the scene. one passenger was in the car. one crew member was treated with nonsevere injuries. the san francisco fire chief has been vocal about opposing expanding robo taxi service in the city. san francisco officials are calling on regulators to pump the brakes on the expanded service of robo taxis in the city, citing safety issues. for city attorney is leading the effort. he spoke with s yesterday. >> it is an experimental lab for the industry, and we think it is critical that they work with the city to make sure that our residents are safe and not interfering with first responders, traffic flow, public transit, etc. gloria: early this morning, crews posted about the incident in san francisco, saying they are investigating to better understand ourev's performance and will be in touch with san

francisco about the event. the company also posting their primary concern is the rider, their welfare, and that they are mindful of the first responders and anybody affected by the incident. waymo will start charging for rides on monday. cruise will accept monday. we will let you know as soon as you get more information. gloria rodríguez, abc 7 news. kumasi: thank you. now to the latest on the wildfires in now we. the death toll has risen to 111, and hundreds are still not accounted for. crews have searched about 40% of the disaster zone of the island so far. data and video from the night the fire started suggests damage powerlines may have spark the flames. asked night, maui's top emergency management official resigned from the post, citing health reasons.

it is happening one day after he defended his decision to not sound warning sirens as the wildfires swept across the island. the abc 7 iteam has learned that san francisco's emergency sirens are coming back after silence since 2019. the city took them offline because they needed an upgrade and they were vulnerable to cyber security threats. funding to fix them never made it to the top of the agenda but after what happened in hawaii, the stans has changed. one supervisor voted no last time there was a funding request, saying he thought the city should spend money on planning. now, he is in support of bringing them back. >> i think lahaina has taught us this should be higher on the priority list and it is the reason i am moving forward with a funding package for it this year. kumasi: there are 119 sirens throughout san francisco. it is estimated it will cost around $5 million for all of

them, paid for with money the city has set aside for laguna honda hospital. jobina: another california town now using sirens to one of approaching wildfires is paradise. this is what they sound like if a fire is approaching. >> this is a test of the paradise early warning sirens. [warning sirens sounding] jobina: installing them this spring but plans to have 21 towers spread throughout the county town. only five people died when a campfire ripped through paradise in 2018. kumasi: right now in paradise, one restaurant is raising money to help maui residents rebuild. the owner, april keller, lived there for 16 years, and moved to paradise the year before she would have lost everything in the campfire. she is providing customers with ways to donate.

number one, contra costa county sheriff's deputies and police officers are on the scene of an investigation in martinez on sunrise drive near pacheco boulevard. the activity is focused on a cannabis dispensary. it appears a car has crashed. no word if anyone was hurt yet. jobina: number two, acruise driverless car and san francisco fire truck crashed in the tenderloin district last night. cruise says the car entered the intersection on a green light as the fire truck responded to an emergency. kumasi: number three, 10 pittsburgh and antioch police officers have been charged in a civil rights and corruption investigation. the fbi made the announcement yesterday. only three officers are still employed. they were not on active duty. jobina: number four, hurricane hilary continues to gain strength this morning as it tracks toward baja, california. it is expected to weaken by early next week when it could reach southern california as a tropical storm and bring heavy rain, flooding, and mudslides.
