areas low 90's, the bay's upper 70's to low 80's. at the beaches, it will be mild through the weekend, mid 60's to upper 60's. this evening, we will see increasing clouds, you will notice it will be more humid and we will have a chance of isolated showers and of course we are tracking hurricane, strong category four, right now and we will let you know how it will impact the bay area the next few days. gloria: sounds good. new develop its overnight, crews will reduce on san francisco rose by 15%. this comes up to california dmv requested robo taxi company to do so while it investigates recent incidents i'm involving cruise vehicles. crews released a statement saying "we believe it is clear that cruz positively impacts overall road safety and looks forward to working with the california dmv to make any improvements and provide any data they need to reinforce the safety and efficiency of our fleet."

the decisions by the company and dmv came one day after an incident between a driverless crews car and a fire truck. it is one of the most recent mishaps involving robo taxis. they were approved by the cpuc to expand operations 24/7 last week. abc7news reporter leanne melendez tells us about the latest crash involving reaction. leanne: this is the scene at the intersection of bulk and turks streets. >> can you dispatch? they've been involved in an accident, a cruise vehicle. there was one person in the vehicle. >> involve the fire truck? leanne: the firetruck truck was apparently headed southbound in this video but had moved into the northbound lane, something trucks do to get around other cars. crews responded on social media, one of our cars entered the intersection on a green light and was struck by an emergency appeared to be in route to an emergency scene.

one of the firefighters involved in the accident told police what he claims the cruise vehicle did at the intersection. he says it looked like it lurched. it is illegal in california nots to yield the right-of-way to an emergency vehicle approaching with its lights and sirens. . here's where the human element comes into play, if i drive this car and hear sirens or flashing -- see flashing lights, there is no way i will move this car, even if i have the green light. still it does not mean they have a pass. it is the responsibility of the fire department to make sure that intersection was free and clear. look at this video at precisely the same intersection, cars have already pulled over and stopped, the firetruck moves to the wrong side of the road to get past them. as the truck moves through the intersection, it moves back into its lane, right before in go buy

hurricane hilary is expected to pummel the area as a rare tropical storm will make its way through starting tomorrow. and lasting until next week. you can see the hurricane moving past western mexico there. hillary is a category four hurricane and is expected to weaken into a tropical storm as it crosses into the u.s. and southern california. major league baseball rescheduled sunday games in los angeles and san diego, because of the forecast. looks like the bay area will not see any severe weather from the remnants of hillary before -- but forecasters one things can change quickly. people in san rodino county on the other hand say they are watching and waiting to steal it -- see the storms impact. veronica jones spent the day at line-up creek and knowing the area would look different in a matter of days. the two friends live in rialto in a neighborhood prone to flooding. >> you see what it looks like now, this is nothing compared to what it is going to look like.

the water comes all the way up here. >> we are trying to get as much of this nice water before hurricane hilary. >> where i live at, the sandbags are a must. >> grab as many sandbags as you need, stations have restocked with plenty of sand. >> san bernardino county firefighters have sandbags ready for anybody who needs them. in case the weather takes a turn for the worse, county public works officials are setting up equipment. they put a warning sign around recent burn areas and also have cameras that they can monitor remotely at all times. experts say could bring as much as a year's worth of rain for some areas in the next few days. the deputy of the national hurricane center says that could be what sets this apart from anything california has seen before. >> the rain is going to be a long story. it's the biggest threat. i know the wind components are the novelty of a real -- rare event like this, but if you think heavy rain, that will be

the best thing you can do to prepare for this storm. we are looking at wide swaths of three to six inches of rain, some areas enhanced by topography possibly having 10 inches of rainfall potential and that is a lot of rain for this portion of the country who doesn't receive this much of rain -- much rain. the rainfall rates in tropical system like this are much greater or faster than what you are used to seeing in atypical rainy pattern during the winter season. so if you have plans to going to southern california, especially los angeles, san diego area, it is probably not going to be a good weekend to drive. gloria: hillary could bring more than a years worth of rain to parts of nevada anarizona. you can track hillary all weekend long. the hurricane tracker on abc7news.com has detai on

the case they would have gone into the fire. >> but the government's website says the all hazards system can be used for a variety of both natural and human events including tsunami's, hurricane, and wildfires. the governor giving an update overnight. >> the scope of the devastation on now is difficult to express in words. more than 2200 buildings have been destroyed and another 500 have been damaged and estimated cost of nearly $6 billion. but far more devastating than any material loss is the loss of precious lives. >> fema saying all residents in shelters will be relocated to hotels by next week. in addition to the federal response, local businesses are working to help their community. tour companies using their buses to carry supplies. >> old big thing i'm doing is connecting with this recent centers since there is no communication between them and finding out what do you need, how do we get there. >> the family of this man sharing this video with us as

gloria: welcome back to abc 7 mornings. we are getting a live look outside from the east bay hills camera and you can see there, it looks beautiful. you can see the layer of fog and the sun starting to rise so it is a gorgeous morning so far. we look at a check at your forecast coming up in a few minutes. in the north bay, health officials ordered the lucky supermarket in novato took close because of its active rodent infestation. this store will be shut down temporarily. abc 7 news reporter tim johns hears from local customers in shock. >> no kidding. tim: shocking concern in novato friday. >> i did not know that. tim: several shoppers arriving

to the supermarket only to discover it had been closed the day before, forced to temporarily shut its doors because of a rodent infestation. >> it's a concern obvious a because ssomebody is not takingf what they should do. tim: then he is a spokesperson for marin county, saying the store will likely remain closed until at least monday. >> we received complaints about visible signs of rodent droppings in the store as well as a rodent siding. tim: public health officials say closures a beaching grocery stores are rare, though not unheard of. they tell us for the luckiest in novato, they ash lucky's in novato, they will have to take several steps before they can reopen. >> first there will be a facility assessment after lucky's addresses the issue at hand. i will also need to address structural modifications made to prevent the rodents from entering the building. finally lucky's will need to document for three consecutive days there is no rodent activity

[laughter] tim: in novato, tim johns, abc 7 news. gloria: residents of san mateo neighborhood and the flatlands are on alert after several people spotted a mountain lion. a resident took this picture of a cat running down the street between south delaware street and 101. it was first seen in backyard e 16th avenue around 6:00 yesterday morning. the cat likely ma i way down from the mountains via lli creek. one neighbor says sightin becoming more and more common in the area, noonger in the hills. officers immediately search the neighborhood but did not spot the mountain lion. new developments, meta-,

facebook's parent company, is committing to its return to office policy with a stricter mandate according to business insider. employees will be monitored to make sure they work in an office at least three days a week there and meta claims managers will follow up monthly to make sure employees comply. workers could potentially lose their jobs if they do not adhere to those guidelines. the return to office policy goes into effect september 5. today, free computers for students. community leaders and elected leaders will be giving away hundreds of refurbished laptops. this is happening at the east oakland youth development center on international boulevard. starting at 10:00 this morning, organizers say at&t is scheming up with humanized -- human i.t. to provide 500 refurbished laptops to students in need. the kids have been selected by local nonprofits. right now, let's get a check of

your forecast with frances dinglasan. are we looking at a nice weekend in the bay area? frances: bay area will be gorgeous. it is feeling muggy and humid, because we have this area of low pressure that is making the air circulate counterclockwise and bringing us moisture, and eventually we see remnants of hillary. that does bring us more humidity and a chance of isolated showers. here's a live doppler seven look, and notes the area -- air is circulating in a counter clockwise motion and brought a lightning strike north of i-80 in the south tahoe sierra area. check out do points right now, it is feeling muggy to a little human in some spots where the dewpoint is about 60 degrees oakland and mountain view. this will increase, so it will feel even more humid tonight, but check out how gorgeous it is from the top of mount tam. lots of us under low clouds are now, most temperatures in the

60's, san francisco 60, oakland 63, mt. view san jose 64, palo alto mid 60's and half moon bay at 61. then we've got lots of low clouds over the golden gate bridge. that will clear later on by midday. santa rosa, 60, novato drops to 54 degrees, and napa, fairfield, concord, livermore although 60's are now. that is where things will really warm. here's a view from the east bay hills looking out toward mount diablo. things are going to get hot for the inland areas. it will be heating up to the weekend and still mild at the coast. higher humidity tonight with isolated showers possible. still human through monday as remnants of hillary past tower east. highs today, they will be nice and warm, san jose 85, santa cruz 74 81 in palo alto and redwood city up to 85. notice of the beaches, partly

cloudy and temperatures only hitting the mid 60's like in the sunset district, downtown san francisco 51 p north bay will be gorgeous in wine country, napa at 83, petaluma also 83, and we will see upper 90's towards ukiah. in the east bay, it is t-shirts and shorts weather, low 70's to low 80's with plenty of sunshine, inland areas are hot, highest temperatures will be in fairfield, redwood, livermore around 94 degrees. overnight lows will see clouds move in once again. we could see drizzle also temperatures dropping into the upper 50's and low 60's. here is hurricane hillary, right now category four, but it will weaken to a tropical storm as it hits southern california tomorrow morning and then, as it passes over the weekend, it will bring humidity. rainfall will be high so very dangerous, life-threatening areas in southern california could see flash flooding

-- pg&e is switching to focus on fire, focusing less on tree trimming and focusing on circuit breakers like a power to possibly damage powerlines. michael finney reports people in the east bay say the system is too sensitive and leads to constant outages. >> i hear my neighbors generated on the hill and i'm like -- >> karen woke up to this telltale sign of a power generator down the street. it was another outage in her lafayette neighborhood. >> in a period of eight days, it was off three times. >> power keeps going out at richard's home too. >> it happened between seven and nine times in a month and a half. it is unacceptable. >> it interrupts your entire day. >> steve lost count of outages that began in early july. >> working from home and the power has gone off and i wait around and it is like his are going to come on? and you don't know. >> they are not transparent about it, no communication to

say, hey, we are sorry your power went out. we want to tell you why. right? >> pg&e says it is trying to prevent wildfires in high-risk fire zones like the woodsy areas of contra costa county. it cut back on tree trimming but enhanced its powerline safety settings or epss, something like a -- epss. if something like a tree branch hits the powerline, it will instantly come power preventing a potential wildfire, especially on hot, windy days. >> it is not a hot day, there is no wind, and all of a sudden there is quiet. my computer just shut off. >> the summer has been mild. residents say censors seem to shut power down for no reason. >> 's or so sensitive, if anything pump said, just a bird flying into it, it turns the power off. >> there is the joke initially, like what did a mosquito at the wire? >> pg&e says it is adjusting the sensors but did not say if it

found any real damage to powerlines to warrant the outages. safety sensors now control power flow to 1.8 million households across northern california. last weekend, it cut power to 8000 danville residents for six hours overnight. >> this is supposed to prevent ignitions from occurring but it is a major inconvenience on customers and also can be a safety issue for people that rely on their electricity for medical devices. >> katie of the utility reform network says pg&e should insulate powerlines instead but pg&e says the sensor program is working. powerline ignitions dropped 16% last year. still, apg&e report shows outages went up 44% last year and lasting 71% longer compa to a five-year average. pg&e tells us "the number of outages residents in this area are experiencing is

area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is kgo . -- is abc7news. gloria: support for lahaina in the bay area, how animal shelters are helping pets from hawaii and how you can get involved. we started this half-hour with a look at weather. here is frances dinglasan and hurricane hillary is the big news otherwise. frances: it will impact southern california and for us it will impact us middle -- minimally. it will increase showers, not too much else. here's what you can expect today, temperatures in the 60's, sunrise at 628 but most of us under lots of cloud cover right now, clearing midday and then temperatures will be warmer, generally for inland areas and around the bay. inland areas low 90's -- low 90's are on the bay.

at the coast, mid to upper 60's in the afternoon. this evening, because increase, humidity increases, we will have a chance of isolated showers, and i will let you know how much rain you can possibly expect from remnants of hillary over the next few days. gloria? gloria: thank you so much. new this morning, a contra costa county deputies car crushed. witnesses say deputies chased a truck along eastbound to 580 overnight. the chase ended highway 24 at macarthur boulevard when both cars crash. chp says multiple suspects are in custody, the deputy was taken to the hospital. developing in maui, crews searched more than 60% of the disaster area left behind by the wildfire. the death toll from the lahaina fires is up to 14. josh green says the number is a specter to increase as the search continues. right now there are nearly 500

search-and-rescue workers and 40 cadaver dogs combing through debris. bay area animal shelters prepared a warm welcome for dozens of cats and dogs from maui. they are opening space for pets rescued in the aftermath of fires. abc7news reported tara campbell was at the hayward airport for those arrivals. tara: fresh flight from maui, 40 pets set to take refuge in bay area shelters. >> we have been working on this with a coalition of shelters for about a week. tara: cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens landing at the hayward airport writing night. >> our goal was move the animals that had already been in shelters or in foster homes at the time of the fires of lahaina. tara: making the way in maui for what is expected to be an influx of lost and injured pets in the wake of the wildfires. >> we are moving the animals here so they have a better chance of getting adopted and

also so the animal welfare folks in maui can start to adjust their programs and retool programs to help with longer-term recovery issues. tara: and finding space for these new faces has been a challenge. >> we have animals and we haven't tried to figure out how to place them with shelters in the bay area because the reality is all of the shelters are already full. tara: that is where you can help out. >> as an animal is made available, it will go automatically on our website. for people if they're interested in the maui dogs, start looking on monday because they will take a few days. we want them to decompress. tara: carrie is with marine humane and wants to know that the adoption fee for these little ones will be going toward helping in maui. >> also doing something i'm proud of, i have been at the shelter for 20 years and this is something new but all of the adoption fees for the maui animals are going directly back to maui humane. tara: and some of the furry faces will be showing up at an

adoption event next weekend in berkeley. >> that is called bark and me out around the block where we have 23 shelters coming together with adoptable animals so probably 200 animals there. many of the hawaii animals will be part of that. >> welcome to the mainland. tara: tara campbell, abc7news. gloria: they are doing amazing work. if you want to help with the maui wildfire relief efforts, you can make a $10 donation to the red cross by texting red cross to cross. negotiations continue between donald trump's and prosecutors. this will be centered on when he will surrender on election interference charges. according to a senior law enforcement official, it could be next thursday or friday. the fulton county da charged trump and 18 others on a sweeping racketeering indictment . it alleges they knowingly and

willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in georgia. trump said his actions were not illegal and the investigation is politically motivated. the da gave all of the defendants until noon friday to turn themselves in. developing news, the writers guild of america met with major hollywood studios to discuss a potential deal friday but neither side appears to be any closer to ending the strike. sources say the two sides are far apart on major issues. yesterday was the fourth time they met in a week. the guild confirmed both sides plan to meet again next week. a california department of justice is investigating a deadly police shooting at a marijuana dispensary in martinez. it's presence indicated the person who was killed was not armed. for martin as police officers are shot and killed a man during a burglary call. police responded around 3:30 a.m. yesterday to beltway

san mateo county $300 a month for a full year. we have the funding in place, the foundation is putting up half the money, and the county through to supervisors and their discretionary moneys are putting up the other. then we will raise the money for year two and three. gloria: according to the spears foundation, 27,000 children in the county live in poverty. her goal is for san mateo county to serve as a national example. a technology board in the bay area could have a major impact on a critical global food source. the system has sophisticated cameras and artificial intelligence. developers use something you probably have in your own home to test the concept. dan ashley shows how it all works. >> it is a lot of paddling to reach norway from a small bathtub on telegraph hill. for one bay area entrepreneur, all it took was the thought of

southern tip of baja, california. it will be tracking to our north and then it does weaken by the time it makes landfall to a tropical storm as it hits southern california. especially tomorrow. it weekends in the tropical depression and remnants of hillary will affect the bay area. i will show you that in a little bit. we are expecting a time of excessive rainfall for southern california. you will notice anywhere from one to six inches, and in some areas getting up to seven or 10 inches. because of all the excessive rainfall, we are seeing a tropical storm warning until tuesday morning. you can see the areas highlighted in orange for los angeles through san diego. the area light green is a flood watch through monday evening and there is another tropical storm warning and they could see flash flood warning's. live doppler 7 in the bay area, shows this area of low pressure making the air circulate counterclockwise and we did see lightning strikes there near the
