down into the bay from mount tam . but that's why it's so mild. 64 degrees right now in san francisco, 66. oakland low, 70s mountain view, san jose 60 at palo alto and half moon bay. and the view from our rooftop camera looking across the embarcadero under clear conditions. we've got temperatures in the mid 60s at santa rosa and novato, napa, fairfield, 71 already at concord, almost 70 in livermore. so these are our forecast headlines. mostly clear and mild start to the day this morning, but it will be mild to hot again inland today. however the good news is we're going to start to see a marine layer developing this evening. it'll be breezy and much cooler tomorrow. so as that marine layer returns, i'll have the full forecast a little bit later. now look at traffic with jobina. >> thank you, spencer. good morning, everybody. so we have no advisories at the moment and traffic is pretty light right now as we zoom in on this live picture showing you emeryville and 80. hear those headlights in the westbound direction and the south bay here. this is a live look in san jose showing you 101. those headlights are traveling northbound for your

reference for our super commuters. tracy to dublin. the ride is only 35 minutes. i even noticed myself coming in this morning. the traffic is pretty light so hopefully it'll stay that way for you. >> thank you, jobina. well, as you wake up this morning, we are learning more about a deadly mass shooting at a historic biker bar in orange county. three people were killed. six other people got hurt when a man opened fire inside the bar yesterday evening. investigators say the gunman was killed by sheriff's deputies as they arrived at cook's corner and trabuco canyon. there was a band playing at the time of the shooting. two of its members are among the hurt. they are expected to recover. >> it's a tragedy our community will continue to deal with orange county fire authority and orange county sheriff are here to stand by together. >> this investigation will be taking quite a bit of time to make sure we are able to go through all of the evidence. our condolences do go out to all the families that were affected. >> the orange county sheriff's office tells our sister station in los angeles, kabc, they're looking into reports the gunman

shot his wife inside the bar. the gunman's name hasn't been released, but investigators believe he's a retired officer with the ventura county agency. >> today, former president trump is set to surrender in the georgia election interference case. many of his 18 codefendants have already reported to the fulton county jail to be arrested and booked. jobina is joining us now with more on what to expect this morning. how did jobina? >> hi, reggie. thank you. so former president trump posted on social media saying he will proudly be arrested this afternoon in georgia and the fulton county sheriff's office says it's ready for all of that. so they will record former president trump's height and weight to fingerprint him and take his photo. now, a few days ago, trump sat down for an interview with former fox news host tucker carlson. trump told carlson his legal troubles are only boosting his voter support. he slammed fulton county's top prosecutor, fani willis, who handed trump his fourth criminal indictment this year. >> the people see it like this, he rebel district attorney. she

the first republican primary debate, donald trump, not one of them, but the former president of course, a topic of conversation. abc news reporter lionel moise reports on the two hour showdown. >> sparks flew almost immediately after the eight republican presidential candidates took the stage in milwaukee, minus former president donald trump as mike pence went after vivek ramaswamy , the 38 year old entrepreneur who's been rising in the polls. >> now is not the time for on the job training. we don't need to bring in a rookie now that everybody's gotten their memorized pre-prepared slogans out of the way, we can actually have a real discussion. >> now. former new jersey governor chris christie also taking on ramaswami. >> i've had enough already tonight of a guy who sounds like chatgpt standing up here on the issue of abortion. >> haley and pence were at odds over a 15 week federal ban. >> it's a moral issue. a 15 week ban is an idea whose time has come when you're talking about a

federal ban. >> be honest with the american people. don't make women feel like they have to decide on this issue when, you know, we don't have 60 senate votes in the house. >> trump's closest rival in the polls, florida governor ron desantis, sharply criticized how trump handled the pandemic lockdown in florida. >> we led the country out of lockdown. we kept our state free and open on the war in ukraine. >> ramaswami said he would forgo giving more money to ukraine. you have no foreign policy experience and it shows one of the more dramatic moments came when the candidates were asked to raise their hand if they would support trump as the nominee. >> whether or not you believe that the criminal charges are right or wrong, the conduct is beneath the office of president of the united states. >> abc's political director rick klein says the candidates brought up trump far less than expected. >> i think ramaswami took a lot of the incoming that might have otherwise gone to trump. he was

the most stridently pro trump and so some of the ways that you saw nikki haley, mike pence, chris christie unload on vivek ramaswami, it's almost like they were doing it to donald trump in in his absence. trump tried to counter-program the debate, appearing in a prerecorded interview with former fox news host tucker carlson, making more false claims about the 2020 election and attacking some of the other candidates. >> former president trump reacted online after the debate , taking issue with pence's comments about january 6th and calling chris christie's performance last night horrible . lionel moise, abc news, new york. >> the fbi is now getting involved, trying to locate those who are still unaccounted for in maui after the devastating wildfires there. the number has gone up for the officially not counted so far. so it's now more than a thousand people. the public is being asked to provide dna samples. so far, the fbi has received just over 100. maui officials are warning people to beware of dna collection scams.

some victims have reportedly received phone calls. employees with lahaina public schools are going to return to work on monday. they've been on leave since august 8th. when the fire started. we don't know when students are going to go back to school. one of the first victims to be identified is a northern california woman who was visiting maui on vacation. 72 year old terry cooke was a beloved mother and grandmother. her daughter said cooke was last seen leaving her hotel. >> i don't blame anybody. things happen. natural disasters happen . we're human. we make mistakes. we do the best with the information we're given. but she left on foot when i heard that she had left on foot by herself . i know that everyone has to hold out hope, but there's a part of you that just knows. >> she was from pollock pines and according to her daughter, social media post cooke was supposed to return home a day after the fires broke out. if you'd like to help with the maui wildfire relief efforts, you can

make a $10 donation to the red cross by going to redcross.org slash abc today. >> us congressman adam schiff will be visiting a halfmoon bay nonprofit to learn more about the needs of farm workers, especially after the mass shooting there. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez joining us live in half moon bay with the details on this. gloria . good morning kumasi here on main street, a small vigil still stands in honor of the farm workers who were killed in the mass shooting. >> that tragedy brought out more awareness about the struggles that farm workers on the san mateo county coast experience. and that's what will be discussed here today. san mateo county board of supervisor ray mueller is hosting us congressman adam schiff to visit the nonprofit ayudando latinos associate or alice in half moon bay. the organization helps farm workers with many services. there will be a community roundtable and press conference this morning where farm workers and others will share their experiences, particularly when

it comes to the challenges related to farm worker housing, mental health services and overall inequities for farm workers. are the struggles of these farm workers was brought to light after the mass shooting in half moon bay in january. prosecutors say a disgruntled farm worker opened fire on fellow workers at two mushroom farms, killing seven people. the suspect told investigators he was upset over working long hours. the investigation leading authorities to the deplorable living conditions of farm workers and their families. and i'm told that a survivor of that shooting will be speaking today at that roundtable, starts at 830 in the morning, live in half moon bay, gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. taking a look at our early morning weather conditions from mount tam, you can see almost no marine layer developed overnight. >> so we've got clear skies to start the day and it's going to be a mild start to the day as well. mostly clear and mild this morning. warm to hot inland again today, maybe just a few degrees lower than yesterday. it will be breezy and much cooler,

though, tomorrow. so bring on that relief. right now, the wind is really calm so we don't have enough of an onshore flow to provide any cooling, at least not in the early part of the day. in fact, 24 hour temperature change shows it's 2 to 5 degrees warmer in virtually every bay area. bay area location than at this time yesterday. so right now, we're looking at 64 in san francisco, 66 in oakland, we've got some upper 60s already around the bay shoreline. inland areas are already warming up into the upper 60s to low 70s, indicating it's going to be another really warm day today. so look for highs of 73 in san francisco, 79 in oakland. some bay shore locations will warm up to mid 80s. today we'll certainly see mid 90s in many inland areas, especially the inland east bay up in the north bay near 90 at santa rosa down in the south bay upper 70s to about 80 and the accuweather seven day forecast looks like this. we expect a bit of a cooldown tomorrow. cooler in all areas in fact, but as we go into the into the weekend notice a gradual warm up once again leading to some more hot

account the greenhouse gas emissions from the planes themselves. >> air traveling is very important, but faced with the climate emergency, there's really no economy on a dead planet and there's no tourism and pleasure on a dead planet. >> in an email to abc7 news, a port of oakland responded by saying quote, oacc continues to explore the new zero emissions aviation technologies that will help us achieve our zero emissions goals. airport leaders want to reach zero emissions by 2040 and are working with airlines to increase the use of what's called sustainable aviation fuel. it's not a fossil fuel. the airport also joined airport carbon accreditation, which is an international program that requires airport members to complete a review of greenhouse gas inventories. there will be a final public hearing at the hilton oakland airport next wednesday at 11. >> united airlines is bringing back its flights from sfo to china as san francisco's tourism industry is still trying to bounce back from covid 19. according to our media partners at the san francisco standard,

flights to beijing will resume november ninth. united airlines will also launch new service from sfo to four other locations in its asia pacific routes. it originally paused flights to china because of the pandemic. >> we're getting a look at what a soccer stadium in downtown san francisco might actually look like. our media partners at the standard got the renderings. and if you look here, you can see a massive, illuminating venue which would replace the former westfield mall on market street. now, the proposal is in very early planning stages. nothing is finalized. mayor london breed announced the city is working with architecture firm gensler as she tries to revitalize downtown in a four day carnival kicks off in san francisco's civic center today. >> there's going to be food games and rides, rides including a ferris wheel, super slide and spinning teacups. the goal is for the carnival to begin to transform the area into a place where the community can come together. it starts this afternoon at 230. it runs through august 27th, and the hours vary every day. it costs

have mid 60s at santa rosa and novato, napa, fairfield, concord, 71 already livermore almost at 70 degrees. so it's getting warm again. this is the view from mount tam. notice unobstructed? no uh, no marine layer. a mostly clear and mild start is already underway this morning. it will be mild warm in fact too hot again in our inland areas. breezy and much cooler tomorrow though, because this evening we expect the onshore flow to return to give us some kind of a marine layer. tonight but highs today will be in the mid 90s and our inland areas once again not quite so high as yesterday. we had some 97 to 98 yesterday, but still mid 90s pretty warm mid to upper 80s in the north bay upper 80s to near 90 in the south bay and low to mid 80s around the bay shoreline. and this is the accuweather 70 forecast it'll be cooler in all areas as that marine layer develops tonight we'll get an onshore flow some cooler marine air coming in but that cooldown won't last very long because we have a gradual warm up that begins over the weekend. and by monday, tuesday of next week, we'll have mid 90s inland once again and 80s around

don't like to speak illness over anybody but maybe your coworkers might be out sick today because today, august 24th is the sickest day of the year in america, according to flamingo, which is a platform that tracks absences. >> the second day with the most sick calls is the day after the super bowl. since we're talking about football, are the 49 ers have named sam darnold as the second string quarterback, which does raise some questions about trey lance's future with the team darnold has bounced around the league since being drafted in 2018, but looked pretty sharp in his latest outing over the weekend against the broncos. he threw for a touchdown, also an interception after the ball bounce off a wide receiver's face mask. the niners are reportedly exploring their options with lance, who they traded up to get in the 2021 nfl draft. >> a's owner john fisher is speaking about the a's move from oakland to las vegas. in an interview with the las vegas review journal, fisher confirmed he has no plans to sell the team despite calls from some fans to

do so. fisher said he and his partner, lou wolff, planned on finding and building a new home for the organization. since 2005. he also said, quote, the a's have had a more challenging time signing free agents because we haven't had the revenue to support a payroll. to do that, we expect that being in a new stadium, being in las vegas is going to change all of that. oakland fans not so happy with that response. >> i just don't believe anything he says. they told us they were going to stay in oakland and now they're uprooting from oakland. >> so i think that's just a terrible shame. >> fisher said the a's have submitted their relocation application to major league baseball. summer isn't even over yet, but that isn't stopping some fall fanatics coming at 530, the seasonal go to drink already back on the menu and return of mass. >> the public health warning. local doctors are raising the alarm about and the preventative measures you can take now you got the shoes it brought up so many real emotions.

it is still warm this morning, spencer. >> it really is warm. reggie we expect cooler weather in the morning, but we didn't get a marine layer developing last night. so see how clear it is as we look from mount tam down onto the bay and parts of san francisco. so mostly clear, mild start to the day, warm to hot inland once again today, although maybe not quite so hot in some spots as yesterday. it'll be breezy and much cooler tomorrow, though. and here's one reason for that. look at the forecast animation taking us through the daytime hours notice. later in the day, we get low clouds and fog developing up the coast thanks to a nice onshore flow that's going to develop later today. that'll push some of those cooling low clouds inland during the nighttime hours tonight, which will lead to a cooler day tomorrow. but for today, look for more mid 90s in our inland east bay, upper 80s to about 90 in the south bay and upper 70s to low to mid 80s around the bay shoreline. now let's check on traffic with jobina. >> thank you, spencer. good morning, everybody. we had that severe traffic alert not for the drive times before the crash. we're following in richmond right now blocking multiple lanes at this point on westbound 80 before central avenue. your

symptoms and bumps all over their bodies. a warning this early morning. some of the images are graphic, but we'll start with video of the event which has gained popularity in the us and canada, the united kingdom and germany. it's touted as having the world's best obstacles and it made a stop in the north bay this past weekend. you can see teams of people crawling through mud, even waist neck deep in water. but the fast paced, popular team oriented challenge is facing challenges of its own. people have complained about staph and bacterial infections after the weekend event, one woman we spoke with described having smelled cow manure at certain parts of the obstacle and skipping those portions because of her own concern. >> you wake up the next day and you're like, what is all this on my arm? >> like, what is going on here? and it's on both arms, you know? and that's where i was digging and doing like army crawls and

it's on the insides of my knees where i was pushing off as well. >> we have an email chain out to the tough mudder organization and it seems there's been 350 plus people and counting that have been affected by the incident. >> seek medical treatment is the advice from the health department to those who raised and maybe noticing symptoms. for one group of 13, the team says 12 ended up with medical issues . and we've reached out to tough mudder to get their side of what may have happened. but have not heard back. they did send out an email to participants saying they are taking all necessary steps to fully investigate the matter. but for now, reporting live in the newsroom, amanda delcastillo, abc seven news. >> all right, thank you, amanda. another public health alert for you this morning. more places are masking up again in the us after a recent resurgence of covid 19. santa rosa kaiser permanente medical center is now requiring staff members and physicians to wear masks. they are encouraged for visitors. data shows a constant dated covid 19 variant in the city's wastewater increase by more than 200% over the last month. health

>> researchers believe they cracked a mystery when it comes to protecting the life of octopuses. the discovery happened right off the coast of california. so you're looking at the octopuses garden, one of the few nesting grounds of its kind in the world. this was discovered in 2018 near an extinct volcano. it's about 80 miles off the coast of monterey . since then, a san jose state professor and her colleagues started to ask, why are the octopuses moving to this area to mate and give birth? and that's when they noticed the water temperature might play a role. >> we saw that the water was shimmering and wavering in a way, kind of like you would see heat rising off the asphalt on a hot day. and that made us think that maybe there was something about the water conditions there. >> they found the warm water allows octopus eggs to incubate and hatch more quickly, and it keeps predators away. >> this is so beautiful. >> that amazing. wow >> and the video is so clear, so stunning. >> look, nothing is. leave them
