he left and quickly returned to the airport to go home to new jersey. so trump and his 18 co-defendants are accused of trying to overturn the 2020 election results in georgia. he was released on a $200,000 bond with conditions not to threaten any potential witnesses. is that includes on social media for a judge has granted a speedy trial for the 19 co-defendants in october. but trump's team will request for a separate trial at a later date. >> but it looks like we're getting ready to go to trial october 23rd. the only question is whether donald trump will be sitting next to him when they're in that trial. >> prosecutors are also looking at a possible plea agreement at an arraignment in september for in an interview last night, trump described his recent legal troubles as, quote, terrible and says the charges are, quote, politically motivated. and this morning, he's already trying to make money off of his latest indictment, selling everything from t shirts to bumper stickers with his mugshot on them.

>> reggie, thank you, jobina. now your voice, your vote. the first republican primary debate is already swaying some voters. it appears. debate watchers believe that ron desantis had the best performance on wednesday, according to multiple surveys. the florida governor, vivek ramaswamy and nikki haley were the three standouts. haley gained the most potential supporters before the debate. 30% of voters said that they would consider voting for her. that number is now at 47. desantis also saw a jump in the number of people considering him. he had a smaller jump from 63% to 67, but that is now higher than donald trump. ron desantis spent yesterday campaigning in iowa, reluctant to criticize the former president. >> you're here, you're meeting voters, the former president getting arrested. >> well, but here's the thing. it's so candid. it's got to got to decide how much are they going to indulge with some of this? >> ramaswamy's campaign says he raised $450,000 after the debate . trump is expected to skip once again the next debate, which is

scheduled for september 27th and take a look at this car break ins captured on camera by a former news photographer. >> thieves in san francisco broke into three vehicles in just two minutes. all while he was watching and record thing. san francisco police say they're fed up with these break ins and now they're taking even more action to stop them. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez joining us live in san francisco this morning with the details on their plan to crack down. gloria . >> good morning, koumassi. right now i'm at fisherman's wharf. this is one of the areas where police will be increasing their patrols as well as other popular tourist spots like alamo square. also the palace of fine arts and sfpd says that investigators are also building cases against larger criminal enterprises. that are actually selling this property. most of us know that brazen car break ins are happening across san francisco every single day, especially in popular tourist areas. sfpd

chief william scott says his department is adding more officers in tourist neighborhood hoods and he plans to use bait cars to catch thieves. >> when people come in to this city or people who are in this city break in the cars, they may be breaking into cars that are put out there by the san francisco police department. we intend to catch people in the act. these are very, very. thank you. >> now, just before the chief spoke to media at the palace of fine arts yesterday, tourist lindsay dobler from missouri got her family's rental car broken into near the same spot. she says they shuttered her glass, stole four backpacks with electronics and passports. the sfpd says that so far this year, there have been 13,331 reported car break ins, compared to 13,493 for the same time period last year. this year's numbers are slightly lower, about 1. da

brooke jenkins says the new strategies are also giving prosecutors some evidence so that they could hold these thieves account able. and the police chief is asking that everybody report those car break ins. live in san francisco, gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> gloria, thank you. new this morning, a crash involving another cruise car in san francisco is under investigation. this one happened at the intersection of gary boulevard and golf street. it happened just before ten last night. and you can see in this video that the cruise car suffered. you'll you'll eventually be able to see it, that the cruise car suffered a lot of damage. and it's unclear exactly what happened. this does come one week after a fire truck responding to a call crashed right into a cruise car. a passenger was hurt in that incident earlier this week. the company announced it pulled 50% of its fleet from the streets at the request of the dmv over safety concerns. >> today, officers from the antioch and pittsburgh police departments are expected to be back in court for a hearing. it comes after an indictment unveiled last week that alleged

fraud unveiled last week alleged fraud, corruption and excessive force between a group of ten officers. the investigation also exposed a massive racist text messaging scandal in the antioch police department. eight of the officers had first court appearances earlier this month. >> new video into the abc7 newsroom shows some of the flames from wildfire fires burning in far northern california to the smith river complex includes 27 wildfires burning near the california oregon border. you can see on our abc7 news wildfire tracker. it's the cluster of fires in the northwest corner of the state. those fires could have impacts here in the bay area today as they burn. we may see smoky, hazy skies here in the bay area . >> developing news in the wildfires on maui overnight. officials updated the number of people unaccounted for in the wildfires to 388 people, which is down from more than 1000 yesterday. maui county has now filed a lawsuit against the against hawaiian electric

claiming the wildfires could have been avoided if the company had turned off the power before the wildfires began. witness accounts and video indicates sparks from power lines ignited the flames a week after the fires. hawaiian electric officials said unlike p-g-and-e's, hawaii does not have a shut off program. then overnight, the company released a statement about the new lawsuit saying, quote, our primary focus in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy has been to do everything we can to support not just the people of maui, but also maui county. we are very disappointed that maui county chose this path while the investigation is still unfolding . 115 people died in the fires. fewer than half of those people have been identified. and these white crosses are now being installed along the lahaina bypass. s a main road to honor their lives. still to come, from vacant to vibrant, many empty san francisco storefronts will be popping up next month. >> and a parking garage

moved across the bay due to a system getting a little bit closer to us off the coast. but it's not going to stay there for long. and as it retreats, we'll get into a warm up to start your weekend. but as for today, it is a cloudy start. concord livermore. temperatures, though still mild in the 60s. not as cool as we could be. 63 for you on the peninsula. foster city, 66 in hayward and 68 in san jose . here's a look at the winds, the southerly wind will be cooling you off along the coast . marine county and that delta breeze already up to 30 miles an hour and will continue throughout the day today. so highs will be in a narrower range. but as we get to your saturday low to mid 90s inland, you can see the reds coming back into play here and we'll look at some of those low to mid 80s arriving up to the north bay, the bay shore stays in the 70s but look at the heat building by your sunday with 80s and 90s and even mid 90s as we get into early next week. so today just

missouri. they suspect rader was behind the disappearance of 16 year old cheerleader cynthia kenny and the murder of 22 year old shawna beth garber. investigators say both women were linked to areas where the serial killer targeted. rader was convicted in 2005 for a series of ten murders from 1974 to 1991. more than a dozen small businesses will be popping up in downtown san francisco next month. 17 businesses were picked to open pop ups and empty storefronts for the vacant to vibrant program. it's part of the mayor's plan to revitalize downtown. one recipient is devil's teeth baking company in the outer sunset. it's getting three months of free rent for a pop up at one embarcadero center. it's terrific that the city is helping us and not just me, but there's all sorts of diverse, creative activators that are coming down there now. >> and i think it's going to really make a difference. >> this empty storefront at 201 jackson street is also getting two pop ups. that includes a multi media agency and a skate

workers are preparing for a possible strike. a coalition of kaiser permanente unions will be voting to authorize a strike between august 26th and september 13th. their demanding the health center address staffing concerns unsafe staffing levels and unfair labor practices. the unions represent more than 85,000 members across seven states. if this is approved, this would be the largest strike of health care workers in the nation's history. a strike can happen as early as october 1st. >> redding mother who lied about her disappearance is now out of prison. according to tmz, sherri papini was transferred to community living just ahead of her release date. papini is scheduled to be freed in october instead of her initial may 2024 date. the california native was convicted last year for lying to authorities that two hispanic women abducted her at gunpoint. she was sentenced to 18 months in prison, followed by 36 months of supervised housing. >> celebrity chef guy fieri is planning a big benefit in sonoma

clouds and a cooler day on the way. the coolest day. we'll see for quite some time. mount tam there. blanket of low clouds underneath, which is anywhere from about 2 to 2400ft. it is mild, though, 62 in the city, 66 in mountain view, oakland. good morning, 64, 68 in san jose, the airport here in oakland. look at all the cloud cover we will clear to low 70s today in the afternoon. so much more comfortable a little bit below average or near average today. 63 today right now in livermore. your numbers coming down as well. look at the extent of the low cloud deck. it pulls back, it thins out late morning, early afternoon and revealing upper 60s, low 70s, some sunshine a bit of haze along the coast and in the north bay. otherwise better air quality. we've got those fires to the north and west of us that is bringing that upper level smoke. but throughout the afternoon, soon we'll notice temperatures in a narrower range from the low 60s at the shoreline to the upper 80s inland. and we'll talk about that warm up coming up. jobina. >> thank you, lisa. unfortunately the chp has

scheduled to close on sunday. this development comes after more than two decades in operation in one nordstrom employee who asked not to be identified says foot traffic is noticeably way down, which reflects the latest city data showing declining business sales tax revenue for soma, where the mall is located, has seen a 25% drop from the first quarter of 2019 to 2023. and according to the city's office of economic and workforce development, the way people shop has changed. noting younger people in particular want to see short term shopping options or pop ups. so the office is looking to bring such vendors down to the ground floor where they'll have visibility and access to the public to keep up visitation at the mall. long term, they're hoping to establish and engage in new concepts. mayor london breed expanding on her vision of a soccer stadium. >> well, it's not just a plan for a soccer stadium. it's showing people what is possible, that we start to we're starting

right now we are live at fisherman's wharf. this is one of the popular tourist areas where police will be ramping up their patrols to try to stop these car break-ins. and as we know, residents are just so sick of seeing these brazen car break-ins across the city. every single day. tourist lindsay dobler from missouri got her family's rental car broken into near the palace of fine arts yesterday. she says they shattered her glass, stole four backpacks with electronics and passports. this just before the san francisco police chief talked to the media about their new crackdown on car break-ins in that same area. and he says his department is adding more officers in tourist neighborhoods. he also plans to use bait cars to catch thieves. marina district residents are hopeful the break ins can be stopped. >> are you sick of it? of course i am. >> it's been going on too long and we need to do more. and the only thing that we've seen as neighbors work is actual police
