>> we'll find yours. match this firm, live with kelly and mark. >> new season starts september 5th. >> well, it's been quite an eventful week for the 49 ers. they take the field for their final preseason game tonight against the chargers. we check in with abc7 sports anchor chris alvarez live at levi's stadium. obviously everybody's wondering about at what's going to happen with trey lance. do we have any indication whether he's going to play or is he going to warm up right behind you? perhaps >> yeah, larry. i think that's the what we at least have our eyes on here early in pregame warmups, probably set to begin around 5:00. and we'll see if he goes through even the early stuff with the shorts and t shirt and then the pre season or the pregame warmups with the pads. but as of now, i would imagine the plan is to have him play tonight. i've seen no reports otherwise it's been a topic of conversation up in the press box this morning. as you see trey lance, he's going to get ready to play potentially remember the big news this week. obviously, he was demoted to the
4:15 pm
third string quarterback. he took that news hard, did not practice on wednesday, came back in the facility yesterday. and by all accounts right now, trey will play as he's potentially auditioning for other nfl teams or we'll wait and see, larry, if he stays here. and as you've seen over the last couple of years in this, kyle shanahan, john lynch era, only one season, the four niners have had one quarterback healthy all the way through that was 2019 when jimmy garoppolo took him to the super bowl. every other year they've needed at least two quarterbacks to get through this season. so it's always interesting around here in santa clara with the 40 niners quarterback situation. >> yeah, it kind of feels like they can't have enough quarterbacks. but if you're trey lance, if you're going to be the number three all year long and never really get a chance to play, i'm not sure if that helps your growth. all that much. brandon allen is an interesting figure. that's not being talked about much in this because the 40 niners really like him. if they were to move trey i assume he would just slide up to number three and then be there just in case this. >> yeah i think that's what the 40 niners have planned all along. you talk about the depth
4:16 pm
that they want to build in that quarterback room and that's why they brought sam darnold in the off season to be a backup plan for brock purdy. we didn't know how he was going to come from that off season elbow surgery, all accounts he's good to go and the starters should be playing a couple of series tonight. another point to make here, leah, as far as trey lance and the quarterback situation around the league, we haven't seen any major injuries. so that could shake things up, too. if anyone gets hurt in the preseason this weekend or as we go along approaching the trade deadline. but in my opinion, i think it's best to keep trey lance here for the 49 ers. you mentioned it, trey. it's better maybe him to get a fresh start and get some playing time or going as a second quarterback. but right now the 49 ers, all eyes on trey to see if he will come in the game and what kind of play he'll put on the field tonight because he's putting it on film not only for the 49 ers, but maybe for the rest of the league. right? >> and we may see trey, we still haven't seen nick bosa, who is not signed and is holding out. and that will be a conversation for next week as we continue. thank you, chris. yeah the onset

4:18 pm
>> we're x-ing out the sun or the fog or something. >> nice play on words. all right , larry and kristin, we're going to warm it up for you this weekend, but we're going to have to deal with some haze from time to time. let's talk about the pre-season game at levi's stadium tonight as the niners take on the chargers. lots of sunshine, 73 degrees at 7 p.m. at kickoff, it's going to be a bit breezy later on looking at a temperature of 65 degrees right now on live doppler seven. you can see that some of the fog is still hanging around parts of the coast. it was slow go clearing for parts of the bay this morning and along the coastline area of low pressure spinning off the coast really rapidly deepen that marine layer. last night and this morning, many areas woke up to gray skies along with some haze, as you will notice from our mount tam cam air quality advisor for wildfire smoke has been extended through sunday. and the reason for that is air quality is going to continue to be impacted, moderate both days
4:19 pm
by those fires that are burning up to our north. good to moderate right now. and as we take a look at the hourly smoke forecast, you'll see what i'm talking about. so from time to time, we will have some haze around sunday morning. you will notice a little more of that coming in with the northwesterly winds. if you are sensitive, just try to stay indoors if you can with doors and windows closed as sandra fillled camera seeing sunshine right now, a gentle breeze, 66 in the city. it is definitely cooler. 70 in oakland, 77, san jose and currently 63.5 moon bay. there is a marine layer from our emeryville camera and here's a look at those temperatures. 76 napa, 79in santa rosa. novato 84 degrees. fairfield and good delta breeze 86 right now 81 in concord and livermore. and from our pier 39 camera a nice day for visitors and sea lions alike . areas of fog and drizzle overnight hazy and warmer weather this weekend and the heat builds inland next week. so we go hour by hour. the fog spills in over the bay tomorrow
4:20 pm
morning, we start out with the gray skies, a little bit of drizzle. and then in the afternoon, we're going to start to end by evening, see some of that fog getting burned off along the coastline as the winds pick up. temperatures in the 50s, 60s tomorrow for your early plans in the afternoon, it's a warmer day, 83 in san jose in the south bay, 90 degrees in morgan hill on the peninsula to 78 in mountain view, 66 in pacifica, san francisco, 72 degrees. temperatures going up in the north bay, 84, vallejo, 88. santa rosa, but hazy as well, 86 in san rafael in the east bay, 75. berkeley 76. oakland had inland and this is where it is going to be hazy and warm. 91 in concord, 94. fairfield 90 in livermore. accuweather seven day forecast mid 90s inland this weekend. temperatures near the coast in the mid 60s. it's going to be mild to hot for your monday your tuesday and then temperatures will peak on wednesday when we have triple digits inland 70s coast side as we go into thursday, friday numbers will

out there who's high risk. >> so eligible is one thing. are these shots going to be free as the others were as well? because that would be another huge barrier? >> well, this is what happens when we're moved that emergency declaration. and so as of right now, these shots should be covered under some government programs. insurance providers should cover them as well. if people out there aren't covered, which is millions of americans who are uninsured or underinsured, there are programs also to get subsidized or free vaccines, also not just for the covid shot for all vaccines. >> okay. well, that's good to know. so how concerned and are you about the new variant? i mean, for a while it was it was scary. we didn't know what was coming. and now we sort of have a few years worth of data. and, you know, people have had covid once or twice and gotten better . >> so back to 86. here is why this is kind of causing alarm bells. if we look at the original sars-cov-2 strain and omicron, that's a big evolutionary leap. that leap now is basically from omicron to this new variant with the amount of mutations it has on its spike protein. so what is a variant potentially going to do? one of three things cause more severe
4:34 pm
illness rapidly spread or bypass acquired or passive immunity people may have from having previous shots or covid itself, right now, this strain doesn't look like it's doing any of those three things, but it has the potential to, which is why it's being watched even though right now there's only reported nine cases in five countries to here. but with cases rising and wastewater surveillance data up, we've got to pay attention. >> so do you think we're going to see a resurgence of the masks again in mass, or is it just kind of an isolated thing? >> well, you and i don't have a good track record for making predictions at this desk. so what i will say is i think it's important for people to pay attention to warnings, especially if you're high risk. also, it's not a bad idea to keep a mask around if you're going to be traveling, if you're going to an indoor movie theater concert, people are around. and guess what? with covid or any disease, if you're sick, stay home, keep people away and guess what? this winter, you can also get an rsv shot if you're eligible and a flu shot. also >> all right. you were referencing our predictions. we thought it was going to all be

over in a year. we were slightly off. >> i don't like that clip. i wish i clipped it. >> we'll delete that from the server doc, thanks for coming in. thank you. appreciate it. kristen. >> thanks, larry. thanks, dr. patel. the pandemic was a time for many to explore things outside of their normal careers. one local pediatrician used the time to create an app that helps families give back to both friends and nonprofits. it's abc seven news. south bay reporter zach fuentes spoke with the doctor about his new app. >> and as a father and pediatrician, dr. navneet singh has devoted his life to providing care to children. >> i've been seeing unfortunate lately more and more youth that have been having issues with anxiety and depression, especially as we went through the pandemic. >> he led the san jose based dr. singh to do some research looking to see what makes people happy. a glaring answer was gratitude, not just mentally, but physically actually has been shown to help things like reducing your blood pressure, making you feel less stressed. >> and the amazing thing is that when you express gratitude, not only are you helping your own physical and mental health, you're helping the physical and mental health of the person that you give the gratitude to and that was the catalyst that led him to create this.
4:36 pm
>> it's an app called gratis purpose of the app is to be able to express gratitude towards others for acts of kindness. the process is simple. you open the app, pick a charity of choice and donate in the name of someone you'd like to express gratitude towards. >> for example, when we're stuck at work and our kid needs to get picked up from school and we just can't get there in time. so we call up a neighbor or we call up a family friend to go and pick them up. and i think it would be so powerful to be able to donate to a charity on behalf of that person, to thank them for going above and beyond. >> here's someone at dr. singh's office demonstrates you have your phone contacts. >> and there's my that's him. that's the doctor. he's my contact that he has chosen the ukraine crisis fund. and then i can donate. and then i can give him a little note here. so i'm donating to your favorite charity to give you gratitude. you you are the best pediatrician in ever done. >> from there, the person who's being thanked gets this text message, letting them know of the donation made in their name. a donation focused on the charity chosen. >> this is a non-for-profit 500
4:37 pm
and 1c3 app, and it's 100% pass through where the charity gets all the money. i don't get any of the money from this app, so i'm just doing it to spread. goodness. the apps available to be downloaded right now by searching for gratis foundation in the apple app store or gratis in google play in san jose. >> zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> all right. right now we have some breaking news to bring you. this is the bay bridge eastbound and look at that white car. there seems to be a chase going on. it seems like they've made it across to the other side, to the oakland side of the bridge there, larry. >> and some dangerous driving usually see this more in los angeles, not so much here, but we don't see the chp in the background. and typically they like to give drivers in this situation some room because they don't want to create any accidents as a result of the pursuit. so sometimes they will let this go for a while. sometimes they'll put the spike strips down. they obviously wouldn't do that on the freeway. but you can see that they're driving the auxiliary lanes. >> well, this.
4:38 pm
>> remember, it's friday afternoon. we're talking about rush hour traffic. >> yes. so, indeed, there's going to be a lot of traffic. >> and so we are hearing possibly that there may have been some people or vehicles hit before at this point. and we do understand the pursuit is active . but as larry mentioned, they're keeping some distance. oh, look at this. okay. >> well, yeah, i mean, the traffic is going to create all kinds of problems for the driver and perhaps for police as well, because they would have to navigate through all this on. >> okay. yeah >> this is 80 east heading towards berkeley. we saw that, you know, it started to the bay bridge or before the bay bridge . and that vehicle that white vehicle there or you can see some damage in the front. they might have hit a few things already along the way across the bay bridge now in the east bay. now, you see passing ikea, the powell street exit, emeryville, berkeley, 80 east is typically really jammed up on an afternoon, especially a friday afternoon, although this guys is
4:39 pm
really moving pretty quickly here through all of this. i'm a little worried. i'm very worried, larry, because, you know, there's just so many cars there right now. as we mentioned earlier, they whoa, look out. >> looks like he got off at the powell street off ramp at emeryville. >> the ikea exit. so he's now off 8-80. i'm saying his. but he actually we do not know the gender of oh, now we're driving the opposite way towards oncoming traffic. >> and now back on the proper side of the road and the street is what? >> christy? christy yeah, one of the main roads there in emeryville. as you get off 80. and again, this driver has been showing reckless behavior for going in the wrong lanes, opposite direction, driving on the side, auxiliary lanes that are not meant for traffic and now going through residential areas. some of those condos in emeryville, very concerning as police chp continue this chase which started in the san francisco side, crossing the bay bridge onto i-80 and now in emeryville. >> well, and this is where for
4:40 pm
police, it's really challenging because if you start to get into more of a residential neighborhood or where you can't really set up any kind of a spike strip or a blockade, then you're basically just going to have to lay back a little bit and wait till he gets to a spot where he'll be more easily boxed in. but they're not doing anything. the police are not doing anything too aggressive at this point. just kind of letting it play out and you'd rather have this driver on a nice clear road rather than traversing his way through all the cars on 80. >> all right. this is abc7's mapping technology, sky seven mapping technology. i think we saw potter street. he's on potter street right now. and again now we're heading towards 580, interstate 580, westbound there where there's a lot of traffic and the drivers getting back on the freeway. >> all right. >> or is that the frontage road or no, it's not. >> no, no, it is. >> it is on 580. 580 westbound. so coming back towards san
4:41 pm
francisco. >> oh my goodness. oh this is very worrisome because obviously this is the peak commute right now. and there are a lot of cars out there and the vehicle is driving in a lane that is not designated for traffic. >> oh, well, also moving very quickly. so, you know, we don't have the ability to monitor miles per hour. but but this driver is going pretty fast and from the left front fender there, you can tell it's already made contact, possibly hit several vehicles, one or more vehicles. >> there's damage there. and this chase is ongoing, having started on the san francisco side, the bay bridge side. and now it's just weaving through lots and lots of heavy traffic at high speeds and moves here, cutting in and out of heavy traffic underneath the overpass there and coming out.
4:42 pm
>> as you can see, the white car in the far left lane on. westbound 580. and any of the i'm sure the people in these other vehicles have no idea what's going on that there's a chase involved. be 80. we're not sure about the mapping technology right now. could be a malfunction there. in any case, it's obviously the freeway. not necessarily sure of which one at this. we'll we'll look out. all right. so you see the contact there with that blue vehicle. and as kristin pointed out earlier, you've got the damage in the front left fender area. >> did you see that sign? did you catch that sign? no, just trying to figure out. oh, that looks like gilman doesn't it, in berkeley? yeah, that look like an overpass that i think is over gilman or at that exit. >> so this is kind of stuck here. but the aggressive driving
4:43 pm
continues and whoever this person is. is really is really pushing it. >> i mean, and putting a lot of drivers at risk. >> and this is just a perilous situation right now. >> i almost can't a lot of dicey maneuvers here that that obviously puts everyone else on the road in danger. >> and this is why i mentioned what i mentioned earlier when we started covering the chases. what what the police don't want is exactly what you're seeing. and that is any kind of pressure or force that would cause this driver to do something even more dangerous than what we're seeing. and what we're seeing right now is pretty concerning to begin with. but that's why you don't see any police cars in the shot. i'm sure there's a police helicopter that's doing the exact same thing as our helicopter is doing, which is tracking this white sedan down. >> okay. >> well, at least now the vehicle is in an area, a section of the freeway where traffic is loosened up a little bit and
4:44 pm
hopefully, hopefully that means that there won't be a collision with any of the other drivers. but at such speeds, it's just very, very risky. and this pursuit started has been going on for how long now do we think? it certainly started on the san francisco side. it looks like the driver is getting off the freeway once again. >> i'm actually stunned that there's not way more traffic because normally on a friday afternoon, everything is jammed up. it's hard to go anywhere. but. all right. now, wait a second. do we lose? we just lose him for a second here. okay, here he goes from underneath the overpass. >> i mean, the driver got off the freeway again, and now back toward streets. >> oh, yeah. slowing down. oh, okay. the vehicle is now in richmond at mcdonald avenues, where they exit it. so they have , in fact made it to richmond via i-80. >> so started in san francisco across the bay bridge, going eastbound the whole time. >> and now on. 55th street, it
4:45 pm
seems to be going parallel to the freeway on a frontage road and continue to pass drivers and going in the wrong direction very closely. >> oh, my goodness. >> wrong side of the road and getting ready to turn here is what it looks like. we have not seen police anywhere near. no, no. this vehicle. >> that's not to say that they're not there, though, right. i mean, they obviously know what's going on. yeah >> but the way this driver is going about things, it makes it much more difficult not to try to box him in in any way because he's on the freeway, off the freeway, into the residential areas, out of residential areas, back on the freeway. >> and so it's a challenging situation on. all right. so that's parkview place off of cypress. and now we're lost
4:46 pm
behind the trees on parkview place in richmond. >> lots of trees in that area. so it might be hard to continue to visualize. >> well, that's exactly what he would want, what the driver would want, get obscured by the trees for any length of time. >> and then who knows where that vehicle will pop out, where it would reemerge to get back onto the streets. you can see one of the choppers there. >> yeah, we see a park right there. booker t anderson, eastshore park. and it looks like there's some players on the field. i don't know if that's a baseball field and they're doing warmups, but, you know, you certainly hope nobody, no person on the street pedestrian will be injured. yeah. i mean, all this it's been somewhat dangerous and now we really don't know where that vehicle is because once you got underneath the tree line, there, really hard to tell. >> thought i might have seen a police motorcycle there circling around, but difficult. and it
4:47 pm
looks like there's a police car on the lower right hand portion of your screen. >> oh, i see. a motorcycle. yeah, that's a policeman motorcycle. >> you know, the police are around, but now it's actually somewhat more challenging to figure out where this driver went because we were hovering over the tree line. you figure he's somewhere over there and now, you know, so much time has gone by, a couple of minutes have gone by. they could be anywhere. yeah, we'll take a break and try to keep you posted on on the chase and where the driver is as we continue on abc7 news at four more moments are made at home. >> so why not enjoy them with new flooring and countertops from the floor store? bay area flooring authority. >> our labor day sale is on now up to 50% off store wide. no interest for 18 months and no sales tax did you know taking xyzal at night relieves allergies while you sleep so you wake refreshed for more productive day.
