anderson east shore park. >> now here's video of the chase involving a white infiniti sedan in that started on city streets in san francisco. then over the bay bridge, then eastbound on interstate 80 and onto surface streets in emeryville and berkeley. the car sideswiped several vehicles, both in san francisco and on the freeway. of course, we don't know why officers were chasing that car just yet, but we're keeping on top of this for any new developments. good evening. i'm ama daetz. and i'm dan ashley. >> thanks for joining us. it was an intense chase. we'll keep you updated on the search for that driver. but now to our other top story, a disappointment for some in antioch who wanted to see police officers involved in that racist texting scandal take the stand today. we believe that these officers should testify. >> i mean, why should they be recused from this type of incident like this involves them , but instead, the judge ruled those officers don't have to. >> it's all part of a california racial justice act hearing. >> abc seven news reporter unser hassan was there and joins us live from the court. with everything that unfolded in court today, unser.

>> dan and armand, good evening. the contra costa county district attorney's office concedes that bias was established when four young black men were arrested by antioch police as evidence in the racist texts. the judge says , therefore, the officers who were subpoenaed don't have to take the stand. >> some of the text messages in this case by a very small number of officers are really horrific . and they shamed themselves. >> attorney michael raines represents some of the police officers subpoenaed in a case linked to the antioch police texting scandal on friday. the contra costa county district attorney's office conceded bias was established in the case and argued the officer's testimony is unnecessary. the contra costa county superior court judge agreed. >> if bias is established, that's what the law says, then we only talk about the remedies available. >> today's hearing was about california's racial justice act, which allows convictions to be

overturned if racial bias was a factor. i'm happy that we have another hearing to discuss the remedy stage. >> kamala kamala represents tyrion pugh, one of the four young black men accused of murder and attempted murder related to a drive by shooting. >> pugh was also named in the texting scandal. caamano says officers could still be subpoenaed in the next stage of the hearing. >> the fact that we had supervisory officers within the department and we don't have any information that anybody involved in that text messaging stream abided by the policies and procedures of the antioch police department. i don't think it's fair at all because they did a crime and they should be in court. >> cheryl cobbs is the mother of one of the defendants, trent allen. she joined a rally outside the courthouse after the decision came down. many in the crowd wanted the officers to take the stand. >> i think the idea of having the officers on the stand where they have to confront or be confronted with what they've done and also explain their

actions is important. it's important for the community to see that if there's not a two tiered justice system, also at court was brandi g. >> whose son, michael hawkins, was allegedly killed in the drive by shooting. they ambushed that baby and killed him. she is concerned the fallout from the text and the racial justice act hearing could mean her family doesn't get justice. men have been charged but have not gone to trial in this remedy stage. some of the options that the judge has is to reduce charges even drop some of the enhancements, both sides will be back in court on september eighth. reporting live on san hassan, abc seven news. >> all right. answer thank you. we have new details now in the police shooting that killed a 20 year old in martinez last week. the city has released the names of the four officers involved. and the mayor is saying that losing those officers right now is making matters worse for the already understaffed police department. officers were responding to a burglary alarm at a cannabis dispensary last friday. the department of justice and the police department are each investigate the incident. the body cam video

will be released within 45 days of the shooting. >> a 27 year old man has been arrested for fatally stabbing his grandmother and his six year old nephew in a san jose apartment. the suspect, nathan addison, was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon to formally hear the charges against him, but he refused to show up in court. the victims were found dead inside their apartment in the buena vista neighborhood on august 4th. this case is a tragedy. >> there is an elderly victim, a very young victim, mr. addison, is known to law enforcement, but he has a criminal history involving weapons, burglary, things of that nature. >> authorities have yet to reveal a motive for the stabbings. the arraignment is now scheduled for monday. >> a marin county mom who saw the dangers of fentanyl firsthand is now on a mission to educate other parents as she lost her teenage son to an overdose in 2019 and is now teaming up with public health departments across the bay area

to help save lives. abc7 news reporter tara campbell has her story. >> and also here's an extra one if you want to post in your window. michelle leopold is a marin county mom on a mission to get naloxone into the hands of as many people as possible. >> her son trevor died of a fentanyl overdose in 2019. he was in his freshman year at sonoma state from the night that we found out that he died, we said that my husband and i said we have to be loud about this. trevor struggled with addiction throughout his teens, but ultimately it was a single pill that killed him. >> my son trevor died in his dorm room at sonoma state after taking one fentanyl laced m-30 pill. >> michelle and her husband own a handful of hardware stores across the bay area and they're teaming up with local health departments to help train customers and neighboring businesses to use naloxone. the nasal spray, best known by the brand name narcan last year we did this and we trained 100

know is struggling with drug addiction, you can find a list of local resources on our website. >> abc7 news.com slash take action and orinda police officer escaped serious injury after crashing his patrol car into a wells fargo branch just before midnight last night. >> the car broke through the side of the brick building as you can see on moraga way and camino pablo, shattering several windows as well. officials say the officer was trying to catch up to a driver believed to be committing a crime when this crash happened. crews quickly boarded up the building and the branch was open today. >> a major change to a san francisco intersection where a four year old girl being pushed in a stroller was hit by a car and killed last week. today, crews removed one of the two right hand turn lanes on fourth street, where it connects to king street. the sfmta says the change will slow traffic and reduce the potential for incidents involving people in the crosswalk. located not far from oracle park. >> happening tomorrow, the community is invited to a town hall safety meeting with alameda county district attorney pamela price. the event is organized by

the cornerstone missionary baptist church in oakland, where it will be held. representatives from the oakland police department and mayor sheng tao's office are also expected to attend. last month, a similar meeting reached maximum capacity as residents shared stories of crime in oakland and talked about their concerns. tomorrow's meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and as community and local officials work to reduce gun violence in oakland, the results have been mixed. >> but one man who long ago played a part in the violence is now working hard to change that and redeem himself. >> if our goal, unfortunately, i wish we could get ahead. this is one of my dreams is to stop shooting a but we've gotten really good at stopping shooting be. >> meet kevin, a violence interrupter. he's often the first person to respond when shots are fired. his goal to keep them from happening at all. you can hear more about his story now in our abc seven

>> well, here's something that could spark even more controversy for the oakland a's. say san francisco and oracle park could be a temporary playing site while they wait for their new stadium in las vegas to be finalized. >> abc seven news reporter ryan curry has reaction from a's fans and explains how this could happen. >> the athletics at home in san francisco. it is not something many expected, but team president dave kaval says it is a possibility. he told the nevada independent the team is exploring three locations to play after their lease of the coliseum expires. and while the las vegas stadium is under construction, one of them is oracle park. we wouldn't support it, obviously. we would just stop boeing altogether. >> i mean, that's not first of all, it's not oakland. and second of all, it's you're going to kind of a rival's home. >> george leone, the president of the oakland 68 fan group, says this is insult to a's fans. he says it is just another example of why a's fans are fed up with this team's ownership. >> it's pretty laughable at this point. st john fisher is

clueless. so is dave kaval. i mean, they have no idea or no sense of like community ity. >> you know, the a's lease of the coliseum expires at the end of the 2024 season. the las vegas stadium is not set to be finished until 2028. the a's could sign a new lease at the coliseum, but it would involve negotiating a new deal with oakland after the abandonment of the howard terminal project. we reached out to the san francisco giants for comment about this. we're waiting to hear back. meanwhile, those we spoke with say kaval is just trying to leverage a better deal either here or somewhere else for a place to play. >> the idea that they would be there knowing that they were leaving for an extended amount of time. >> it only makes sense for oakland if that number is enormous compared to what it currently is. and that's maybe totally a negotiating tactic from the a's to say, hey, if you want that number to be enormous, we can find other options. >> alex simon, a sports reporter with the mercury news, says if it brings enough money, the giants will definitely consider

taken third overall in the 2021 draft. he's still owed 940,000 for the remainder of this year. 5.3 million next season, all of which is guaranteed by the dallas cowboys. and then dallas will have a chance to decide on lance's fifth year option in 2025. so he will go to play for the cowboys. here's gm john lynch and coach kyle shanahan earlier this week on knbr. on why sam darnold beat out lance for that backup spot. >> kyle and our coaching staff, they're tasked to make tough decisions. >> and believe me, this one was painstaking for them. they came to a point where where they felt like sam had won it. and nothing was going to change that. trey is a very well-liked, liked guy. >> one of the better people i've been around and i do think he's going to have a lot of success in this league. it's been a tough road for him because he times he has gotten an opportunity. he ended up getting hurt. >> and you're taking a live look at quarterback one. brock purdy scheduled to play at least a

burning in oregon and up in northern california. so air quality advisory has been extended through sunday day. moderate air quality expected both saturday and sunday, right now we have greens and yellows, which is good to moderate here locally down near the surface as you will go hour by hour. notice that the haze and the smoke is with us. it may increase a little bit as we head towards sunday morning. so keep that in mind if you are sensitive and you'll want to stay out of the smoky conditions by closing your doors and windows if you can safely, obviously early, and if you have ac, which not all homes do put it on recirculate. all right. temperatures right now, most of you running cool, lower than where you were yesterday at this time, you'll notice those numbers are in the 80s, inland 60s, right near the coastline. as we check out some live tower camera views, lots of sunshine to show you. a little bit of fog lingering. we're going to keep some of that fog around, as you will notice on live doppler seven for the upcoming weekend

area of low pressure just off the coast is going to retrograde just a little bit, allowing the warmth to build over the weekend and it will be most noticeable in our inland valleys from our golden gate bridge camera, you're seeing mainly sunny skies right now, areas of fog and drizzle. overnight a hazy and warmer weather this weekend and the heat builds inland as we head towards next week. so it's not just a weekend event as we go towards tomorrow morning. notice the fog has pushed into some of our bay side, north and east bay communities along with the peninsula. there will be some drizzle at 7:00 in the morning and then later in the afternoon, i think we're going to get more clearing near the coastline a little sooner than what we saw today. obviously, the fog took a while around the bay and the coast. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. tomorrow morning, tomorrow afternoon, it's a little bit warmer. not a major warmup, 83 in san jose, 90 degrees in the south bay in gilroy on the peninsula, 83 in redwood city, 65 half moon bay, san francisco, 72 degrees. breezy right near the coast, north bay. temperatures 86 in
