still surrounding an apartment building in richmond where a high speed chase ended this evening. this is on bayshore avenue, near the booker t anderson east shore park. here's video of the chase from sky seven. a white infiniti sedan racing over the bay bridge just before 5:00 this afternoon, hitting speeds upwards of 100 miles an hour, zipping in and out of traffic. just a handshake away from other cars. >> the chp told us the chase began somewhere in contra costa county, then made its way into san francisco before heading back to the east bay. at one point, the infiniti hit several cars on city streets in san francisco, as you see, near fourth. and king streets, which is close to oracle park. now, one of the cars was a tesla. >> its cameras captured the moment it was hit. watch now, we spoke with the driver of another car that was also hit and the guy just next to me and they tried to hit and run away. >> so i don't know what happened. what kind of car was he driving? >> i think it was the infiniti. and so what what happened
6:02 pm
besides what exactly what happened? what happened? >> it all happened so fast. obviously, the chase came to an end in richmond when the driver abandoned the car near anderson park. that's when the ground search began. >> all right. let's take a live look outside because look hazy skies in the bay area today, but there's no wildfire here. the smoke we're experiencing is from fires elsewhere in california, but it may be only a matter of time before wildfire. >> sparks here and firefighters are getting ready now. let's get our begin our coverage with abc seven news meteorologist sandy patel. she's checking on air quality issues that will last sandy into the weekend. >> absolutely. dan and ama as we take a look at that live picture one more time, let me show you what's going on here. you're noticing from our mount tam cam that layer of haze and smoke that is due to all the fires that are burning, not just in california, but also up in oregon. the air quality advisory has been extended through sunday because of this. this weekend, we're expecting moderate air quality for all parts of the bay
6:03 pm
area right now, it is good to moderate across the region the hourly smoke forecast will show you what's going to happen. we'll see periods of haze and smoke through the weekend. it could get a little bit worse as we go towards sunday morning. so these are just some safety tips . keep your windows and doors closed if you can safely bring your pets inside. and if you do have ac, make sure you put it on recirculate. i'll be back with a full look at the forecast, which does include hotter weather coming right up. >> dan okay, sandy, we'll touch base again in a few minutes. well so far, fire season in the bay area has been relatively mild, knock on wood. but any firefighter will tell you they're not letting their guard down. things change quickly. training is ramping up across the region for new recruits and seasoned veterans as we head into late summer. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard was in santa rosa today to see it firsthand. you got it. >> boo boo boo. come on, guys. hustle. what are. it's a workout
6:04 pm
for these new firefighter recruits giving it their all ready for winter. >> these trainees are part of sonoma county fire district's newest academy class. >> okay, do a quick walk around . let's get in the engine. let's do it. officials say by early october, they'll be ready for duty. this will almost bring us up to a full staffing level. >> good job. shut down. >> captain jason jones says the timing is critical. historically, october is prime wildfire season in the bay area. >> every day is new. we never know if we're going to get an early winter or if it's going to be a long summer. >> i actually live and was raised in one of the districts that they serve, so i'm very happy to be here. >> colin tedrick knows why he wants this job. >> like i said, i am a local resident here, so i've seen what wildfires have done over the last few years. it's definitely kind of sparked my desire to want to work for the fire department. just about everywhere. >> grass is tall after a very wet winter and spring. firefighters making no predictions about what the next few months will bring, only that they need to be prepared as we
6:05 pm
push further into the quote unquote fire season in when we have more of the higher risk. >> we're constantly training. >> santa rosa fire department was doing off road training friday driving wildland fire engines up and down hills. fire officials say after months of doing controlled burns and fire training, exercise eases. they hope the hard work will pay off. >> having crews out, whether they're pulling hose, whether they're doing in training burns or driving off road is critical so that we can better respond to the needs of our community. if a wildfire develops, i'm i'm not sure what's to come, but we'll be prepared either way in the north bay, cornell bernard, abc seven news. >> well, the group petitioning for the recall of the alameda county district attorney pamela price, says price has responded to their petition. >> that's a necessary step before the group can start collecting signatures. as brenda grisham, one of the leaders of the recall effort, says price's response letter was sent to her home address. grisham says that was done to intimidate rate her. >> there was no reason for that
6:06 pm
letter to come to my home. i took it as a message and i'm going to continue to take it as a message. you know where i am. that's where i am. but what i'm not going to do is be intimidate . opted to not stand up for these families. i'm going to continue until we get the job done. >> officials with price's campaign say grisham's address was on the petition notice. they say they also sent a response to the registrar of voters as required by law. >> a san jose man accused of killing his grandmother and his six year old nephew is now in custody. he was supposed to go before a judge this afternoon to answer to the charges, but refused to show up. abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn is on the story. >> this case is a tragedy. there's an elderly victim, a very young victim today we're learning more about a deadly double stabbing at an apartment in the buena vista neighborhood in san jose on august 4th. >> according to the prosecutor, the suspect, nathan addison, refused to show up in court
6:07 pm
today to answer to charges of murder, felony assault and criminal threats. that came as a surprise to the victim's family members and court staff. >> we didn't know that he was going to be. quote unquote, a refusal. addison the arraignment was postponed until monday, according to the da's office. >> the woman killed was addison's grandmother, delfina turner. the boy was addison's six year old nephew, jordan cam walker. authorities are not saying what the motive was in the killings. today we heard from the prosecutor, michael gilman. >> mr. addison is known to law enforcement and he has a criminal history involving weapons, burglary, things of that nature. >> addison also facing felony assault and felony criminal threats in a separate incident. but according to the prosecutor , addison has three other cases that were also on the calendar today pertaining to his mental health. >> there are are several cases involving possession of a dirk or dagger, which is a concealed, essential, a concealed weapon.
6:08 pm
at least one of those cases is open presently at this time. they are substantive crimes is one is burglary. there's another case involving criminal threats and arson, but those cases are on the mental health calendar. so they they were being handled in a different department, a different courtroom. >> walker's family attended today's court appearance, but did not want to comment. they started a gofundme campaign after the six year old boy was killed. >> all we want to do is achieve justice and move this case forward in san jose, suzannephan abc7 news. >> disappointment for some in antioch who wanted to see police officers involved in the racist texting scandal take the stand today. instead, the judge ruled those officers don't have to. it's all part of a california racial justice act hearing. abc7 news reporter answer hassan has the latest developments. >> some of the text messages in this case by a very small number of officers are really horrific
6:09 pm
and they shamed themselves. >> attorney michael rains represents some of the police officers subpoenaed in a case linked to the antioch police texting scandal on friday. the contra costa county district attorney's office conceded bias was established in the case and argued the officer's testimony is a necessary. the contra costa county superior court judge agreed. >> if bias is established, that's what the law says, then we only talk about the remedies available. today's hearing was about california's racial justice act, which allows convictions to be overturned if racial bias was a factor. >> i'm happy that we have another hearing to discuss the remedy stage. kamala kamala represents tyrion pugh, one of the four young black men accused of murder and attempted murder related to a drive by shooting. pugh was also named in the texting scandal. caamano says officers could still be subpoenaed in the next stage of the hearing. >> the fact that we had supervisory officers within the department and we don't have any
6:10 pm
information that anybody involved in that text messaging stream abided by the policies and procedures of the antioch police department. i don't think it's fair at all because they did a crime and they should be in court. >> cheryl cobbs is the mother of one of the defendants, trent allen. she joined a rally outside the courthouse after the decision came down. many in the crowd wanted the officers to take the stand. >> i think the idea of having the officers on the stand where they have to confront or be confronted with what they've done and also explain their actions is important. it's important for the community to see that if there's not a two tiered justice system, also at court was brandi g. >> whose son, michael hawkins, was allegedly killed in the drive by shooting. they ambushed that baby and killed him. she's concerned the fallout from the text and the racial justice act hearing could mean her family doesn't get justice. the four men have been charged but haven't gone to trial in this remedy stage. some of the options that the judge has is to reduce charges or even drop

6:17 pm
mild evening on tap, 75 degrees at 6:00. so if you are taking part or if you're going to just check out all the festivities, it's just going to be beautiful weather. we have some beautiful fog right now from our sutro tower camera. just sort of moving across downtown san francisco right now. that marine layer is about 2000ft deep. it deepened uh- yesterday in response to an area of low pressure that has been sitting off our coast and got a little bit closer. here's the deal. we did have fog this morning, if you recall, and it took its sweet time moving away from the bay and parts of the coast are still hanging onto it. but it was a cooler day as a result of the sea breeze and the deeper marine layer. right now, we are noticing those winds coming off the ocean at 25 miles an hour in san francisco, a live view of the city from our exploratorium camera. and it's just blue skies here. 64 degrees in san francisco. oakland, you're at 67. most of you today in the 60s to 80 range, a few degrees below average, believe it or not. san jose, 76 degrees. palo alto,
6:18 pm
you're at 71. and a nice day in santa cruz right now. as you can see, just nothing but sunshine. santa rosa, 74 degrees. it's comfortable in napa, 76. novato 73. you're in the low 80s from concord to fairfield. but that breeze is reaching you in livermore where it is 78 degrees. seeing some haze and some fog from our emeryville camera areas of fog and drizzle overnight hazy and warmer weather. this weekend and the heat is going to build and as we head towards next week, i'll show you when those temperatures will peak in just a moment. tomorrow morning. we begin with fog around the bay and along the coast, also parts of the valleys, you will notice and a little bit of drizzle at 7:00 in the morning near the coast. by the afternoon hours, we start to notice that the fog begins to peel away in response to the wind direction, which is coming out of the northwest. at 7 p.m. you start to notice the clearing along parts of the coast. the second half of the day, you'll notice a little more and then the fog will be back again. so our typical pattern temperature is in the 50s and the 60s in the
6:19 pm
morning and tomorrow afternoon in the south bay. you're looking at 90 degrees in gilroy, 80 in santa cruz. it's a warmer day. sun shining, 83 in san jose on the peninsula. you're looking at 78 in mountain view, 75 degrees. menlo park, mid 60s, right near the coast. so enough of a sea breeze to keep your temperatures from really rising. too much. 72 in downtown san francisco, 65 in daly city, north bay, hazy skies and a warmer day. 88 degrees in santa rosa, 86. san rafael in the east bay. hayward 78. oakland 76. inland areas. this is where it's going to get hot. 92 degrees in antioch, 90 in livermore, 94. in fairfield and hazy accuweather 70 forecast mid 90s inland mid 60s coast take your pick of what you'd like and you'll find it. here we have our microclimates going into next week. those temperatures continue to rise and we will notice it's a warm to hot one on wednesday with 70s to one hundredths moderate risk of heat illnesses. as we go towards next week. so that's something we'll
6:20 pm
keep an eye out for you. almond dan thanks, andy. >> the oakland a's say san francisco oracle park could be a temporary playing site while the baseball team waits for a new stadium in las vegas to be finalized. >> abc7 news reporter ryan curry has reaction from a's fans and explains how this could happen. the athletics at home in san francisco. >> it is not something many expected, but team president dave kaval says it is a possibility. he told the nevada independent the team is exploring three locations to play after their lease of the coliseum expires. and while the las vegas stadium is under construction, one of them is oracle park. >> we wouldn't support it, obviously. we would just stop going altogether. i mean, that's not first of all, it's not oakland. and second of all, it's you're going to kind of a rival's home. >> george leone, the president of the oakland 68 fan group, says this is insulting to a's fans. he says it is just another example of why a's fans are fed up with this team's ownership. >> it's pretty laughable at this point. john fisher is clueless.
6:21 pm
so is dave kaval. i mean, they have no idea or no sense of like community, you know? >> the a's lease of the coliseum expires at the end of the 2024 season. the las vegas stadium is not set to be finished until 2028. the a's could sign a new lease at the coliseum, but it wouldn't involve negotiating a new deal with oakland after the abandonment of the howard terminal project. we reached out to the san francisco giants for comment about this. we're waiting to hear back. meanwhile, those we spoke with say kaval is just trying to leverage a better deal either here or somewhere else for a place to play. >> the idea that they would be there knowing that they were leaving for an extended amount of time, it only makes sense for oakland if that number is enormous compared to what it currently is, and that's maybe total a negotiating tactic from the a's to say, hey, if you want that number to be enormous, we can find other options. >> alex simon, a sports reporter with the mercury news, says if
6:22 pm
it brings enough money, the giants will definitely consider it. however allowing the a's to play some games at oracle park could prevent the giants from hosting other non-baseball events that bring in revenue. >> i would imagine for the giants, it's a duality of they have their own costs that they would have to do to host those events. but then there's the opportunity cost, like we're talking about of so many other events that they do like to do in the baseball season. even that probably have to go away. >> in oakland, ryan curry, abc seven news. >> coming up next meet dancers on a deadline. they're getting ready for a big show next month performing at prince harry's invictus games. own a brand new revel for special purchase price of 139.9 98. >> monopoly is back now at lucky come kick off the season with our shop and score game that'll
