what they're telling us. they're the smart ones. >> julie padelford and rampage, a human remains detection dog are returning home after a two week deployment to maui. they are part of a california task force. the oakland fire department coordinated. the pair arrived at oakland airport friday afternoon. >> i've worked fires before. this is the hottest fire i've ever seen. they were estimating that the fire was 2500 degrees or hotter. we cremate people at 1400 degrees. so you can see what the difference there was. >> padelford has trained dogs since 1995. four year old rampage is padelford 10th trained search dog. >> he has incredible drive. it's hard to stop him. he can climb incredible things. >> rampage can find remains that humans alone cannot. >> the dogs were very successful in what and what they could do. it came to the point where our dogs are getting older, but the anthropologists weren't necessarily able to make identify location. >> the reality for us humans is

tragic, but to these working dogs, it's strictly a game of search. >> you put it away when you're working because we have a job to do and the dogs, that's their job. and it's our job to keep the dogs up and moving. and if we get depressed, it goes right down the leash for the first time at a search and rescue scene, padelford said in lahaina, she had to put boots on rampage's paws to protect him from the rubble. >> she's looking forward to being home, but knows the work on maui continues. >> i'm honored that i could be a part of this deploying tonight. we learned a lot. there's things i'm going to go home and add to my training in the south bay. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news. making a difference in hawaii. >> all right. really very important work. all right. we're heading into the weekend and there is an air quality advisory for the bay area. yeah, here's meteorologist sandhya patel with your 24 hour accuweather forecast. >> sandhya yeah. >> dan and we're going to be seeing more scenes like these when you take a look at these pictures from sunset that hazy

skies over the next 24 hours you will notice the smoke in the air as well. here's a look at a live picture from our golden gate bridge camera. air quality advisory extended through sunday as smoke from all the wildfires in the state and even up into oregon are expected to impact our air quality moderate for both saturday and sunday. right now, it is good to moderate when you look at the smoke forecast hour by hour notice the increase in the haze and the smoke tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. as we go into the rest of the afternoon, it kind of disperses a bit and it'll still be hazy sunday. but perhaps not quite as bad. we do have changes in our temperatures coming as well. i'll be back with a full look at the weekend forecast coming right up ahmadan. >> dan all right. thank you, sandhya. >> all right. some big sports news, the trey lance experiment is officially over tonight for the 40 niners. >> yeah, just days after it was announced he would be the third string quarterback. they traded him to the dallas cowboys sports director larry beil is here with more. larry >> dan, when the 40 niners gave
11:10 pm
up three first round picks and a third to move up to draft trey lance in 2021, they were hoping he was going to be their quarterback for the next decade . but after being demoted last week, lance was traded to the dallas cowboys. today broken finger in year one and the broken ankle in year two kept lance from really learning how to play quarterback in the nfl. remember he only played in one game in his final college season , so he didn't have much experience coming into the league and spent most of his time with the niners rehabbing with brock purdy. clearly the starting quarterback once the niners signed sam darnold in the off season, elevating him to the backup role, you knew that trey probably was not going to be around much longer despite being the third overall pick and while many fans are upset, they're calling kyle shanahan's trade up to get lance in 2021. perhaps the worst draft deal day in history. the fact is, if the 40 niners win the super bowl in the next couple of years, the gamble on lance won't matter. lots more coming up on the 40 niners later in sports. all right. >> thanks, larry. you could have access to an updated covid booster in a matter of weeks, but will you get it? the nation's top medical experts say
11:11 pm
a shot targeting newer variants will be released in september. still, after a years long pandemic, some people are hesitant to get yet another vaccine. but abc seven news special correspondent dr. alok patel says you should view this booster differently. >> i think we have to reframe the way we are approaching these covid shots and kind of put it more into the influenza category where every season there's a potential for people to get sick, to get hospitalized, to spread this to others, to get long covid and this vaccine is likely going to be tailored to match whatever strains are circulating. >> the new booster comes just as cases begin to increase, prompting at least one local hospital to reinstate a mask mandate for staff. >> we're going to introduce you to a unique mental health program that's expanding. what sets it apart is who it's helping and the beehive is going to swarm the south bay. >> the special plan santa clara has for the upcoming beyonce concert. >> all right. let's talk about this. bring your friends.

11:15 pm
mental health officer at montage health. she's worked in child psychiatr for more than 20 years and says psychiatric illness in childhood is incredibly common. >> it affects about 1 in 4 kids before they turn 18. and just to put it in perspective of asthma affects about 1 in 10 children before they turn 18. >> but there is some really encouraging news. >> we've learned so much about how to effectively treat psychiatric illness and childhood that most of the time we can cure it. we could put psychiatric illness fully into remission and be done with it. not you don't need chronic therapy or chronic medication. about three out of four times my mouth dropped three out of four times. >> that's incredible. well, there is a problem, though. unfortunately >> fortunately, the reality is not the same as that, because about 1 in 5 children with a psychiatric illness are seen by a mental health professional. so 80% never see a mental health professional in the us. >> the ohana program has been up
