kaunas -- county and went all the way into san francisco. ama: sky 7 caught part of the chase. at times, the car reached speeds around 100 miles per hour. it went onto interstate 80, appearing to strike some cars as the driver tried to get through the gridlock. the driver abandons the car near anderson park. the chp said officers had the car boxed in and one of its officers with a canine moved in but the dog got struck as the driver escaped. >> one of our k-9 officer's was nearby. it appeared that the suspect would try to run. he exited his vehicle and retrieved his dog from the backseat. just as he did that, the suspect put the vehicle into drive and continued to drive forward. ultimately, he struck numerous vehicles and ended up hitting the canine. dan: the dog was not seriously hurt and was taken to a vet to

get checked out. the california highway patrol says the chase started after an officer tried to make a traffic stop. ama: the city of martin is is responding to last week's police shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead and his brother injured. four officers have been put on leave, causing serious staffing partner -- problems. lena howland has the story. reporter: a week since to manuel's and was shot and killed by martinez police. it happened outside the velvet can a bit -- cannabis dispensary after their video alarm reported to go off around 3:30 in the morning. police said one suv fled the scene and shots were fired. wilson's brother also wounded. >> he had a front row seat to watching you strike his younger brother. reporter: a second car attempted to flee before crashing into a fire hydrant. a civil rights attorney who is representing the wilson family says both men were unarmed and

were shot out from behind in a car while leaving the scene. >> this is just a tragic situation that should not have happened. reporter: that's why he is advocating for victims of police brutality and they are calling for the release of body camera footage. under state law, it month -- must be released within 45 days of the shooting. >> we are looking forward to the footage being released. unfortunately in the past, we've seen that the narrative t enforcement gives is not always what's happened. reporter: the department of justice is investigating the shooting. it's caused a ripple effect for department staffing. the vice mayor says the city's optimal staffing for the police department is 37 officers. until last friday, they had 31. after the four officers involved in last friday's shooting were put on administrative leave per

protocol, that brought the total available police force down to 26. >> that's been alleviated with the aid from surrounding agencies. filling up some of the vacant spots. we feel comfortable with our level of staffing right now. the citizens should not be concerned about that. reporter: he says council voted to approve updated body camera equipment. >> that will help us get to the bottom of the facts, the investigation. we will find out what truly occurred. reporter: lena howland, abc7news. dan: a california woman who faked around kidnapping is getting out of prison early. she was charged last year with making false statements to law enforcement about being of ducted in 2016. she's being moved to a halfway house in sacramento before her new release date in october, six months earlier than expected. ama: new details on the

mysterious massive purchase of land near travis air force base. sources tell us the plan is to build a new city on the land. the i-team has confirmed the group contacted mike thompson to schedule a meeting next week to discuss the firm's general plans. tonight, he said he agreed to the meeting. this is the first time the firm has reached out to meet with congressional leaders since the purchases started in 2018. he said, the proposal of a mega-city must answer a legitimate community concern about transportation, water, sanitation, and environmental impact. one source has confirmed to the team that michael moore had the idea to invest in the creation of the new city where land was cheap and could generate thousands of jobs. a source close to the network of investors confirmed flannery is backed by some heavyweights in

silicon valley. a representative for the investor group released the following statement to abc7news. it reads, we are proud to partner on a project that aims to deliver access to good paying jobs, affordable housing, clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, open space, and a healthy environment to residents of solano county. dan: in maui, hundreds of people still unaccounted for after that devastating wildfire. at the moment, the number of confirmed dead is 115. the first child has been added to the list. authority's have released the names of 35 victims who have been identified through dna testing, most of which over the age of 60. a bay area woman and her dog who are part of the recovery effort in hawaii just got back home. lauren martinez talked with her about what she did and what she saw. >> good boy. >> i love working with the dogs. i love trying to figure out what they're telling us.

they are the smart ones. reporter: julie and rampage are returning home after a two-week deployment to maui. they are part of a california task force the oakland fire department court native. they arrived friday afternoon. >> i've worked fires before. this is the hottest fire i've ever seen. the fire was 2500 degrees or hotter. you can see what the difference there was. reporter: she has trained dogs since 1995. rampage is her 10th trained search dog. >> he has incredible drive. it's hard to stop him. he can climb incredible things. reporter: he can find what humans alone cannot. >> the dogs were very successful and what they could do. it came to the point where our dogs are getting older but the anthropologists weren't able to make identification. reporter: the reality for humans is tragic.

to these working dogs, it is a game of search. >> you put it away when you are working because you have a job to do. the dogs, that's their job. it's our job to keep the dogs up and moving. reporter: for the first line out a search and rescue scene, she had to put roots on rampages pause to protect them from the rubble. she's looking forward to being home but knows the work continues. >> i'm honored that i could be a part of this deployment. we learned a lot. there's things i will go home and add to my training. reporter: lauren martinez, abc7news. dan: making a difference. very important work. we are heading into the weekend and there's an air quality advisory for the bay area. ama: here is sandhya patel. sandhya: we will be seeing more scenes like these when you take a look at these pictures from sunset. hazy skies over the next 24

hours. you will notice the smoke in the air as the wet -- as well. air quality advisory extended through sunday as smoke through -- from all the wildfires into oregon expected to impact their air quality. moderate for both saturday and sunday. right now, good to moderate. when you look at the smoke forecast, notice the increase in the haze and smoke tomorrow morning at 10:00. into the rest of the afternoon, it disperses a bit and it will still be hazy sunday but perhaps not quite as bad. we have changes in our temperatures coming as well. i will be back with a full look at the weekend forecast, coming right up. dan: the trey lance experiment is officially over tonight for the 49ers. ama: days after he was announced as the third string quarterback, they traded him to the dallas cowboys. larry beil is here with more. larry: when the 49ers gave up three first-round picks to draft trey lance in 2021, they were

new home. it's a unique approach to mental health. in a few short weeks, this building will offer help and hope to young people who could use a little of both. you're looking at the future home of a specialized mental health program in monterey created especially for children, teens, and their families. >> its hawaiian for family and you are trying to bring the families into the treatment and the solution. there's no child without the family. this idea then connects that idea to the family doing so much more when they are connected to the community. reporter: she's the executive director and chief mental health officer to get she's worked in child psychiatry for more than 20 years and says psychiatric illness and childhood is incredibly common. >> it affects one in four kids before they turn 18. asthma affects about one in 10 children before they turn 18. reporter: there is some

encouraging news. >> we've learned so much about how to effectively treat psychiatrically -- psychiatric illness in childhood. most of the time, we can heal it. we can be done with it. you don't need chronic therapy or medication. about three out of four times. reporter: my mouth dropped. three out of four times? that's incredible. there's a problem though. >> unfortunately, the reality is not the same as that. about one in five children with a psychiatric illness are seen by a mental health professional. so 80% never see a mental health professional in the u.s.. reporter: the program has been up and running for about five years now but is getting a new home thanks to a generous gift of more than $100 million from philanthropist roberta buffett elliott. the gift means they can do more to get in addition to traditional outpatient treatment , there's a day program.

dream speech at the lincoln memorial. back here in the south bay, the silicon valley pride parade and festival kicks off this weekend. the celebration will take place in san jose's plaza starting at 6:00 on saturday evening. organizers anticipate about 15,000 pride goers will attend the festivities to live out proud witches this year's theme. the pride parade starts at 10:00 on sunday and will begin at the intersection of julian and market street and end downtown at the plaza. ama: wednesday, santa clara will be welcoming the queen herself. beyonce will be there for her renaissance world tool -- tour. we spoke with the mayor about what to expect upon her arrival. >> we have something very special planned. i'm going to make her mayor for the day that she will be performing in santa clara. our city is preparing a big key

off. let's talk about sunday. silicon valley pride festival takes place tomorrow. the weather will be fantastic. it will be 65 degrees. the sun will be out in the afternoon. afternoon, mid-80's. by evening, temperature drops down to the mid-70's. let's take a look at a live picture of a gorgeous view. you can see the marine layer is starting to compress. it was 2000 feet deep as a result of this area of low pressure that continued cooling today. now it is 1700 feet deep so we are going to notice that those temperatures begin to rise over the weekend. the marine layer will mix out better than it did today. right now, fog near the coastline. here's a look at the temperatures. 50's and 60's as we look at a live picture. you can see san francisco under a blanket of fog. here's a look at the forecast headlines. low clouds, fog, drizzle in the

a food culture that's virtually unknown. announcer: but first, celebrating love and community at oakland's pridefest. sean sullivan: the energy at pridefest is just like pouring out into the streets. you feel such a great sense of community. like, everybody feels the joy, the excitement, and it continues to build throughout the weekend. i would say the appeal of oakland is its diversity, inclusivity. everybody feels welcome here in oakland. pridefest is important to oakland 'cause it's just one more reason that really celebrates our diversity, our really social justice movement that we've been known for for so many years. pridefest oakland also amplifies the lgbt community of oakland. they're so proud that they no longer need to go and cross a bridge to go have a good time.

pridefest is completely different than any other pride i've been to. it feels like a local hometown kind of pride, you know. something for everybody. it's just a time to celebrate how far we've come, but then also reflect on how much there is to go. peter: well, pridefest takes place september 10th. it's really the lgbtq+ celebration of pride here in oakland, california. and it draws people from the bay area and all up and down the state of california. we'll have a parade, as you traditionally have. ours is gonnstart at frank ogawa plaza right in front of city hall, and the parade's gonna go down and end by a festival. the festival will have local vendors. we'll have music, we'll have a celebration that's unique only to the town. what's also amazing about that, it's so easy to get to this festival. you can get here by ferry, a great airport,

bart, or drive in. well, it was my honor to found pridefest a couple of years ago during the pandemic when other celebrations weren't happening, of how we could pull our community together in a safe way, and in a very celebratory way. and it's given a sense of pride to the town, not just to the lgbt community, to have this top-rated talent in the middle of our downtown celebrating our lgbtq queer community. that's what pridefest is about, about celebrating the beautiful community that we have here in oakland. each year, our team selects... fern stroud: well, i've been a part of prides for a long time, and it's important to provide a space and an environment for people to simply love, and to love without restriction, and without ridicule-- a place for you to just be. and that's what pridefest, and oakland pride, and all of these pride organizations try to allow us just that day,
