wants to say and the pedestals that you see on her head relay those brainwaves to the screen to develop the words and phrases. >> i like music. >> this allows bennett to communicate without being able to form the words physically as pat looks at a computer screen, a sentence would appear. >> she would attempt to read that sentence. we would read out the brain signals, translate them using a machine learning algorithm into text, which then gets placed back onto the screen. >> in this case, practice makes perfect. >> bennett has participated in 25 training sessions, and with time she has developed the ability to communicate around 60 words a minute. being able to speak again is life changing for her and i have hope, dr. henderson says. this is just a proof of concept, but he hopes in the next 5 to 10 years, systems can be in place to give more people their voice back again. people with communication disorders can sometimes become withdrawn, become less socially active, and this could allow people to get back into social situations.

the chargers friday night in the last preseason game of the season at levi's stadium. but the bigger story. quarterback trey lance is moving on from san francisco, abc7 sports director larry beil has your morning sports. >> good morning. >> the 49 ers, they gave up a ton to get trey lance in the 2021 draft. they traded him for pennies on the dollar lance to dallas for a fourth round pick. injuries prevented him from ever really developing into the qb. the niners were hoping for and with brock purdy the starter sam darnold the backup there was not going to be an opportunity for trey to get any reps so he's off to big d 49 ers and charges preseason finale brock and sam both playing in this game. purdy the first two series here to brandon aiyuk nice move by the wide receiver who's been outstanding this training camp down in right around the one but the drive would stall after a jordan mason fumble still no nick bosa who was holding out no problem there fred warner shooting the gap for the sack second drive for brock purdy. and you see he reads the defense so well hitting deebo samuel in
5:49 am
stride on the slant for a first down purdy five of 973 yards in the air later on the drive nobody's open purdy sees the hole in the defense, takes it in himself for the touchdown six nothing niners they've got both kickers hurt so extra points were an adventure sam darnold comes in after purdy a strike to willie snead tight roping in the back of the end zone. darnold six of 1189 yards and a score the chargers won the game 2312. but the focus after the contest was on trey lance. >> and when we told trey, when we told him that he wasn't the two, i said, we'd like to keep him here as the three. but we also want to do what's good for him too. and we'll see how this plays out. now, when we looked in other teams and he told us that he would like another opportunity to go somewhere where he had a chance to be the two, we thought we'd got some good deals for him. there was a number of teams involved to end up getting in. the fourth was a little better than we anticipated and clears up a lot of money and allows a better situation for him to. >> on of baseball braves and giants all dressed up on a friday night second batter of
5:50 am
the game mike harris. the second takes logan webb deep and out almost into the water. not quite one, nothing. braves in a flash. top four former athletic matt olson doubling to the gap in right center harris scores webb five and a third innings allowed five runs and spencer strider went seven innings, fanned nine. boy, he throws really fast and hard giants lose five one. they're drifting down in the wild card standings. a's and white sox some serious makeup there. and trust me, i know my makeup a's. suddenly they're made up of sluggers. zach egloff doubles down the left field line. ryan noda hustling around from first will score the a's jump out to a five nothing lead. and this thing actually turned into a rout. nick allen here it comes. and there it goes. in the seventh, ryan noda back to back jacks as the a's roll. 12 for that is a wrap on morning sports. have a great weekend everybody. i'm larry beil. all right, larry, thank you so much . >> and we are getting ready for a warm up here in the bay area.
5:51 am
so let's get a check of your forecast this morning with lisa argint. good morning, lisa. hey, gloria. >> you're right. and, you know, it hasn't been a really warm summer when we've had our warmth that's lasted a day or two. so why should this be any different? right. a subtle warming trend headed our way beginning today. and we're looking at live doppler seven right now. we're in between a few features. this one here that brought big time cooling yesterday and then an area of high pressure that's going to build in and eventually take over. look outside, we do have an air quality advisory for moderate air quality as our winds have shifted and with that, we'll see a little bit more haze in the atmosphere today. tomorrow and temperatures right now, this is a change to where numbers have come down each and every day getting out of that subtropical moisture, feeling more like we like in the early morning hours, 58 walnut creek, 57in blackhawk. we do have some gray sky here out in our east bay. martina is 57, up in the north bay. you can see some fog from napa to santa rosa. otherwise, it has grown
5:52 am
taller, it's lifted. and the extent is still into the east bay. 60, oakland, 59 in san carlos. and as we look at our 24 hour temperature change, 2 to 6 degrees cooler. so that has been the trend. but by the afternoon , soon we get the sea breeze and the warmth building throughout the bay. another look at pier 39, where we do have the gray sky. everybody's sleeping here, low clouds and fog this morning with the hazy and warmer weather on the way. very similar today and tomorrow with that, microclimates in full swing from the coast to our inland valleys. it's into next week where the heat builds even more so. and we'll see the temperatures maybe 35 degrees from the coast to our inland valleys. there it is, the fog all the way through our east bay valleys, not quite to the delta, and then it pulls back by ten, 11:00, where mostly sunny, even a few peeks of sun with 70s in sausalito today. and as we look at the fog reforming overnight, we'll be looking at that marine layer, maybe not quite as extensive as it was
5:53 am
this morning. so in terms of what you can expect today in the south bay 90s, gilroy, morgan hill, that's a warm day, 83. that's about 4 or 5 degrees warmer than yesterday in san jose. look at the 80s arriving from cupertino to sunnyvale. low 80s santa clara, a nice day in milpitas, heading up towards the peninsula mid and upper 70s from menlo park to palo alto. redwood city back in the 80s for you low 80s 72 downtown with partly cloudy skies. so a nice afternoon moon on the way and up in the north bay getting warm through the 80s. here are some of that haze. santa rosa, san rafael 86. the beach 72 at stinson with mid 70s arriving in berkeley this afternoon. so a pretty afternoon. some haze out there. 77, but there is no air quality spare the air alert. it is just an advisory. so pretty much what we've been seeing the past couple of days, you can expect once again today, 94 in brentwood. there is a 5 to 6 degree warm up here in our inland valleys with 87. the san ramon valley. walnut creek is at
5:54 am
