5:44 am
kind of like you would see heat rising off the asphalt on a hot day. >> and that made us think that maybe there was something about the water conditions there. >> using sophisticated thermometers, they confirmed their hunch water in the vents was indeed warmer. part of an environment that allows the octopus eggs to incubate and hatch more quickly and likely avoid predators as they grow. professor kahn believes the newly published discovery will highlight the critical role of preserving the marine sanctuary . >> you know, for a species that reproduces all in one area, you can have the really strong impact on that population by protecting that hotspot, right? that patch is going to help that whole species before we just indiscriminately and inadvertently damage them either through fishing, mining, plastics, climate change, whatever it might be a resource that we need to protect even resources as exotic and stunning as a real life octopus garden. >> wow, that is just stunning.

5:52 am
oakland and san francisco. the winds picking up today and the next several days. so those northwesterly winds will be clearing out the atmosphere as high pressure builds, which is a bit of a conundrum there because usually as we get that high pressure, the weight pushing down in the atmosphere, the air quality gets worse. but the northwesterly winds, the sea breeze, the cooler ocean water temperatures will be helping us clear out some of that haze. mile and a half visibility. santa rosa can't see anything at all in novato. it is 57. in colma, 56 in belmont. elsewhere a couple of 60s from hayward to san jose. otherwise a look outside here it it'll be gray in the city here past the 10:00 hour and then the clouds will lift the retreat and erode back to the coastline. so hazy, slightly warmer. yesterday we had 80s inland. today, perhaps making it to 90. here's a look at livermore. the next seven days. upper 80s, so near average yesterday. today, maybe a couple of degrees above average. and then by your monday you'll notice that numbers will be very summer-like in the low 90s. it's
