from 505 or sacramento, you are heading into a backup through vacaville. kumasi: hundreds of teenagers caused chaos at the mall, the bay street mall in emeryville. we know at least one person was stabbed and had to be taken to the hospital. ryan is live in the newsroom with more on this incident. ryan: the teenagers broke into groups and started several different fights. police also say some stole stuff from a nearby store. this is one of the fights that started around 5:00 at the amc theater. witnesses say the group was acting fine until all of a sudden the place turned into a frenzy. they say the teenagers then went over to a nearby target where they started trashing the store and stealing items. this is the latest of a series of robberies in retail stores nationwide. los angeles police say they recently uncovered 300,000 dollars worth of merchandise from a nike story. those we spoke with said they

wonder how this can continue to happen. >> what were 400 kids doing. what were they doing here? i'm surprised without their parents and it is scary because that is when she sometimes wants to go to the movies and i don't think you are at the age to go by yourself. ryan: emeryville police say someone fired a gun during the fights. it was a single shot that did not hit anyone. the teenager who was scabbed was taken to highland hospital where they are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries. jobina: developing news out of jacksonville, florida where police say a white gunman killed three black people at a dollar store. the fbi is calling this a hate crime. morgan norwood has the details. morgan: this morning, we are learning more about the white man accused of gunning down three black people out of a dollar general store in jacksonville leaving a community stunned. >> they did not deserve this. we cannot have someone come from

another county and shoot up this community. it ain't no black on black crime. it is a hate crime. morgan: investigators say these videos showed the 21-year-old shooting one victim and a car outside the store then going inside and murdering two more people before turning the gun on himself. the fbi now investigating the dollar general rampage as a hate crime. investigators say the gunmen had writings on him that were racist along with a swastika painted on one of his weapons. >> the manifesto is quite frankly the diary of a madman. he knew what he was doing. morgan: police say he had no prior criminal history but in 2017 was held at a mental health facility. investigators not elaborating. officials say he bought the firearms legally. recent data shows hate crimes

rose nearly 12% between 2020 and 2021 reaching the highest level since tracking began in the early 1990's. back in jacksonville last night, mourners gathering to remember the three victims. 29-year-old. >> i'm just pray and ask god to give me the strength to sit here and have to tell her because she is so young and all she knew was her daddy. kumasi: have no information about a hit-and-run driver who killed a pedestrian in sonoma county. this happened yesterday morning. you can see on the map on river road near rio vista road in forestville. these are images of the vehicle that police believe was involved.

this dark-colored suv, possibly a buick, has front damage on the passenger side. the driver is described as a female adult. jobina: in san francisco, a chp helicopter injured -- transported an injured person. the patient was brought to the helipad at the fort miley va hospital. thankfully, that person is expected to survive. kumasi: attorneys for former white house chief of staff mark meadows will try to get there defendants k-smoove to federal court. he is one of more than a dozen people charged with trying to overturn the 2020 election in georgia. many of the other defendants will have a close eye on what happens today because it could be a sign of how other cases might proceed. his attorneys believed meadows actions came while acting as part of the government.

sometime wednesday the much of the state will feel the impacts as soon as tomorrow. drew: wins it right now 65 miles per hour. it is forecast to strengthen very quickly over the next 48 hours as she enters the warm waters of the gulf of mexico. by tuesday evening, likely a major category three storm. here is the cone of uncertainty. that is where we have hurricane watches up for the moment. these will likely get upgraded to warnings at some point today as the national hurricane center refines its forecast but we will likely find across the west coast of florida and parts of the panhandle some damaging storm surge, some very strong wind especially wednesday morning as the hurricane makes landfall. just know we are tracking the major hurricane in the gulf by tuesday. back here at home, it is all about hazy sunshine. warm temperature, 70's and 80's. our warmest spots going into the

behavior including a quadruple shooting in 2021 that left amanda. the bars manager says they added cover charges, increased drink prices. they added five security guard. they also plan to appeal the decision to force these early hours. jobina: nessie, the loch ness monster, are you out there because that is what hundred people in scotland try to figure out this weekend. the search has been going on for decades. it was fueled by a famous photo in 1934 which was later revealed to be a hoax. that did not stop these researchers and other volunteers from taking part in what organizers describe as the biggest search for the elusive nessie in more than 50 years. they brought out infrared drones, even a hydrophone to map sounds in the lake. i'm not even sure i know what that is. they did not find a thing. drew: i was imagining if you

let's see how we are doing a traffic this morning. sue: good morning. welcome back and we had to the san mateo bridge where we are looking at bumper-to-bumper traffic. i don't see any reports of stalls or accidents on this band. i am seeing some emergency lights about halfway through, mid span. we will keep our eye on it. you are slow and go at least towards the high rise. bumper-to-bumper at the bay bridge. we had metering lights on this morning. you are stacked up now with the biggest delay behind the metering lights from hercules all the way to the sea. a 15 minute delay at the toll plaza. jobina: a shopping center in emeryville leading to at least one person in the hospital with stab wounds. we have seen similar violence and retail thefts across the country. ryan curry joins us live in the newsroom with the latest.

ryan: police say it was a series of fights and different groups that started the fights. witnesses say some of the teenagers then stole from a nearby target. witnesses told abc7news that group started stampeding towards them hitting and knocking people over. others tell us some from the group went to a nearby target and ransacked of the store. the national retail foundation says retail theft accounted for $94.5 billion in losses in 2021. witnesses we spoke with a say they described the scene and others as chaotic. >> it was getting like -- like everybody was stealing everything. like everything was on the floor. >> there were these throngs of kids. things were fine, it was just a little strange and then all of a sudden they all started running towards us. we thought maybe there was gunfire or a knife or something happens. ryan: the amc theater announc

they were temporarily closed following the fights. police say someone fired a gun. it was one-shot that did not hit anyone. one of the teenagers is in the hospital recovering from a stab wound. their injuries are not life-threatening. jobina: new developments from maui where the search continues for hundreds of people missing since the devastating wildfires. lawsuits are starting to be fired and the biggest one of note, maui county putting in a claim against the hawaiian electric company. reporter jen sullivan has the latest. >> as first responders sifted through what remains in western maui, families are searching through this list of those still missing from a catastrophic wildfires. >> there is a part of you but just knows. >> a list of 388 names of peopl still unaccounted for was released thursday. >> once those names come out, it can and will cause pain for some

folks that are affected by this. >> at least 115 people perished in the flames that tore through the island earlier this month. the wildfires in maui are the deadliest u.s. wildfire in almost 100 years. estimates are the fire caused up to $6 billion in damage. for some, no amount of money can replace what they lost. >> i know the hurt, the loss, the deep void because losing lahaina, losing our family members is something so personal. >> many families now asking how something so devastating could have happened and what could have been done differently to limit the widespread damage. maui county filed a lawsuit against hawaiian electric company and its subsidiaries claiming the utility companies negligence caused the devastating wildfires by not shutting down their power lines. >> hawaiian electric should have had a public safety power shutdown. >> in a statement, hawaiian

electric says it remains focused on helping the victims and says it is very disappointed that county has chosen this path while it is still investigating. jobina: the company has acknowledged that some potentially vital evidence in determining the cause of the fire may have been compromised. hawaiian electric says third parties involved in the firefight would have been responsible, not the utility itself. kumasi: the urgent investigation now underway into what caused a united states marine corps aircraft to crash during a multinational training exercise. five people died. the osprey is a hybrid aircraft that takes off and lands in a helicopter but during flight, it can rotate it colors forward and cruise much faster like an airplane. >> a number of investigations will be triggered with an accident of this kind. the osprey is a very unique aircraft. kumasi: there have been 16 in similar clutch problems with the

marine ospreys in flight since 2012. there have been no problems since february. jobina: a 20-year-old college student at the university of south carolina was shot to death when he accidentally entered the wrong house. police say those inside took him -- mistook him for a burglar. the student just started his sophomore year last week. police say they found him in the street just outside that house and a few homes away from where he lived. police did not say if any charges will be filed. a similar shooting happened earlier this year in kansas city when a 17-year-old was shot entering the wrong home. kumasi: historic theater in the north bay is looking for a new owner again. the theater along the russian river is listed for $1.5 million. the listings suggest a new owner could preserve the theater that dates back to the 50's or even out on a restaurant or hotel.

the theater has changed hands a few times. abc 7 news profiled it a decade ago. the current revamp it but ran out of money. jobina: it is the end of an era in san francisco. the flagship downtown nordstrom is closed for good. sunday was the final day of business. nordstrom announced in may it was closing the store because of declining sales. abc7news was there when the store opened 35 years ago in 1988. we spoke with a woman who remembers it well. >> is just coming up escalator and just being excited about it. it is kind of upsetting. being a native of san francisco and just seeing how downtown is just kind of going away. jobina: the future of the san

francisco center mall where nordstrom was is unknown. the westfield sign was removed a month ago. the owner turned over the property to its lender in june after diminishing sales. kumasi: a new tour of san francisco is being offered to see the worst parts of the city. it was set for saturday but never happens. the doom loop tour was supposed to start but it did not. it was promoted to take people through midmarket, the tenderloin, union square. the contact information online indicated it was sold out. this is what we saw instead, a walking tour group focusing on the positive aspects. >> there is so much more in this neighborhood. i want to show that people live in this neighborhood. people who have worked all their lives live in this neighborhood. it is a community that is very diverse and there is a lot of care and loving that we really are a neighborhood and community. jobina: the tour guide lives in

the faa already ordered 60 pilots to stop flying. >> the shocking revelation from the faa. they ordered about 60 pilots who were also military veterans out of the cockpit amid an investigation into nearly 5000 pilots who the faa alleges falsified medical records. the probe has exposed long-standing issues and how the faa medically screens pilots. that probe beginning in 2019 when the ba inspector general's office became concerned that some pilots may be hiding mental health conditions or fraudulently receiving disability benefits. the faa says it has close about half the cases and the majority whose cases remain open can still fly while they investigate. a senior u.s. official telling the post 600 of the u.s. pilots under investigation have licenses to apply -- five passenger airlines.

95, the hyatt in antioch. limited fog just like this morning and we will have temperatures 50's and low 60's as we head into tuesday. this is idalia and it right now i'm 65 miles per hour. the problem is, it is forecast to rapidly strengthen when she goes to the gulf of mexico by tomorrow night as a major category three storm. the cone of uncertainty does include a big portion of the west coast and part of the panhandle of florida. hurricane watches are up for this area. we will keep you updated with the latest on the system but by tuesday night and wednesday, we do expect pretty damaging storm surge and high, gusty wind in this area. as the storm gets closer and we get more information, we will get that track a little bit more fine tuned here i accuweather 7 day. hazy and warmer today.
