expected to learn more about a shooting involving san francisco police that left a member of life threatening injuries. at happened before 10:30 between eddie and turk in the area you see on the map. when officers got here, they said they saw a man armed with a night threatening people. they shot the man and he was taken to the hospital. his condition is unknown. reggie: new information about the hundreds of teens that storm the sores -- stores in emeryville. the community working together to find -- prevent that. teens were alerted to link up and broke out in groups and got involved in multiple fights. a note to parents was sent to ask about talking to kids about resolving conflict peacefully. >> needing additional resources for parents and caregivers to understand how to navigate the mental and emotional health crisis a lot of our youth are experiencing. reggie: wilson says these kids

likely gone to a fight in their generation is dealing with things 80's -- with anxieties including pandemic and other things. kumasi: now to former president trump's legal troubles. a judge has set a 2024 date in the special election interference case. in georgia, others are ordered to appear next week. jobina: we learn the first trump codefendant waved his arraignment and pleaded not guilty. ray smith the third, a former attorney for trump, is charged with 12 counts in the indictment. according to legal documents, smith's team believed by filing the waiver, they are excused from appearing for the september sixth arraignment. transformer white house chief of staff, mark meadows, testified yesterday in court. meadows took the stand for more than three hours in hopes of trying to get his case moved to

federal court. the hearing ended without a ruling. meadows can now potentially appear alongside trump and the other 17 the co-defendants for arraignment next month. in washington, d.c., the u.s. district judge set marsh for those the trial date for the trump federal election case for super tuesday. trump's proposal to push the trial until 2026 was also rejected. the former president called check-in a biased trumpeting judge on social media. reggie: classes are canceled today at the university of north carolina chapel hill. police arrested a grad student after a shooting killed a faculty member. the incident prompted a campus locked on for hours yesterday. students got texts warning them about an armed and dangerous man and they were told to go inside and locked their windows and doors. here's with the university chancellor said. >> we are here for you. i am pleading with you to use any resources you may need and

we will come together as a community to ensure your safety. reggie: the shooting happened in a building that housed laboratories. the faculty member killed has not been named. kumasi: today is day number 241 of this year and so for the u.s. has seen nearly double that amount of shootings, mass shootings, in 2023. as of now, the gun violence archive recorded close to 500 mass shootings across the nation. a mass shooting is defined by the archive as a shooting that injured or kills four or more people, not including the shooter. they started tracking these and incidents -- incidences in 2013. reggie: we are learning more about the suspected gunman who officials say killed three people at a dollar general in florida over the weekend. according to the fbi, the suspected gunman had racist writings and rants that described a hatred toward african-americans and other groups before he went to the dollar general he tried to enter a new -- nearby college in hbcu.

reggie: we are hearing from a mother who said she was fired from her job area she says it all started when she raised concerns about sex education in her children's school. janet robberson lost her job after voicing her opposition to the district sex education curriculum. she said people are not gender fluid and it should not be taught in schools. she claims people called her a big it and transform it online and local media and she believes the backlash and letters written to her employer led her to being let go shortly after. >> has a mom, speaking at a school board meeting, you should be able to do that without losing your job. i think i'm trying to come out strong against this whole cancel culture. reggie: compass issued a

wind trying to make it into parts of lake county which could bring elevated fire concerns there, lower humidity levels, winds gusting 15 to 25 miles per hour. we do have a fire weather watch for lake county beginning tomorrow morning at 1:00 a.m. for those winds. thankfully the winds do not last that long. one comes to watches and warnings in our fire concerns, the fire weather watch is a lot lower than a red flag warning. this is something we will watch closely as the dry winds pick up a bit tomorrow morning in lake county. tomorrow it is about good to moderate air-quality, warm air temperatures, 70's and 80's along the bay shoreline, warm spots mid 90's. tonight, mainly clear skies and upper 50's to lower 60's. accuweather 7 they shows us when we peak tomorrow and then it is sharply colder by friday. relatively speaking, that will feel chilly compared to today and tomorrow, 60's and 70's by friday. we keep below average temperatures over the weekend. jobina?

here's how your day shapes up. our sun appears at 6:37, mild sunshine this morning, 70's, 80's away from the coast by lunchtime and then today is a warmer afternoon compared to yesterday. mid 90's inland, 80's around the bay shoreline for a lot of us near 70 along the coastline and the warming trend that we are under, this will continue into tomorrow as well. the heat is going to peak on wednesday but then it is a big roller coaster ride. by the end of the week, temperatures drop. noticeably cooler by then. we will take a look at the three day forecast and show you what to expect with the warming trend, the cooler weather moving in and a breeze this afternoon. let's check in with jobina for traffic. jobina: good morning. if you rely on mass transit, bart, unique, and ace all on time, no problems to report in that section. the san mateo bridge is filling in if you're traveling westbound direction. your speeds will be under the

limit in that spot. we have a couple blocking issues but they are not really slowing you down. we will skip those and show you a pretty picture of the golden gate bridge instead wind advisories issued for the venetia bridge and ultima pass. reggie? reggie: cruise from santa rosa down to santa cruz busy trying to put out a few brush fires yesterday afternoon. this morning we are taking a close look at fire danger and what could be the first power shutoffs to prevent fires by pg&e this summer. reporter gloria rodriguez is in the newsroom with that. gloria: because of the weather conditions predicted for tomorrow, pg&e says there is a potential for a public safety power shut off. that could turn off power to a thousand customers and 7 -- in seven counties including napa. pg&e says the combination of dry conditions and breezy to gusty winds is of concern. several small vegetation fires broke out in the bay area monday. in the north bay, calfire and

the vacaville file -- fire district responded to a 10 acre fire off of cherry glen road. no structures were damaged and officials say the cause is under investigation. in the south bay, calfire and cz you contained a 1.4 acre fire in santa cruz county. one structure was lost and no one was hurt. the battalion chief says so far this season, fire personnel have been focus on the fires burning in the northern part of the state. he says even though it may seem like fire season for the bay area is off to a slower star, things can change quickly, signing up for local emerging -- emergency alerts will keep you informed. >> we urge people to be fire safe and be aware of surroundings and incidents going on. there are many different ways to gain information about ongoing incidents. gloria: fire officials say it is a time of year when fire season tends to ramp-up august, september, october typically the time a year when we see an

pay competitive wages that would attract and retain staff. our report found they engaged in needless short-term borrowing practices which have cost the district millions. increased central office spending on upper management positions exponentially, even as attendants remain consistent and enrollment declined. kumasi: the superintendent says the district is facing a lot of external factors like declining enrollment, aging facilities, and staffing shortages. he said the district needs to meet these challenges head-on. reggie: the california attorney general is challenging a controversial school district policy involving transgender students. >> let's call this policy what it is, it is enforced o policy. reggie: he is filing suit against chino valley unified against the policy requiring schools to notify parents when a student wants to use a name or pronoun or restroom that is not aligned with the gender on their birth certificate even if the

student does not grant the school permission to do so. he says it violates the california equal protections clause and students right to privacy. school board president says the change is intended to support parental rights. kumasi: now to an update from the abc7news i team. a fire delayed -- vallejo police officers association president mike micheline he confirms to the i team that chaired its haus's termination has been overturned. he shot and killed a man in 2020 in the backseat of an unmarked police vehicle through windshield. his attorney tells the team has termination was overturned at arbitration along with all allegations to his use of force. he was reinstated with a letter of reprimand for failing to timely activate his body worn camera. he also received full staff pay and benefits. the attorney for onto rosa's family said the decision is devastating. >> the idea this officer who is

now involved in his third shooting of an unarmed citizen would be reinstated with all of his benefits, no disciplinary action for the murder of someone who by all accounts was completely surrendered and unarmed besides a hammer found while he shot at him in the back of a moving police vehicle was unheard of. kumasi: the montero's a family is planning to hold a news conference thursday. reggie: tennessee lawmakers voted to temporarily silenced and oakland native and represented justin jones. the crowd erected in protest during an intense special hustler session. [crowd chanting] reggie: speaking for the rest of the day. after being ruled out of order twice during the session for allegedly not staying on topic. new rules allow for house members to be silenced for not sticking to the current bill debated. >> their attempt to silence me

was not about people, it is about the people of my district and they can silence one member and silence all of us but we are united against this extremist, antidemocratic behavior and the people have a right to be in the people's house. reggie: out of the house chambers to support jones, jones was one of two tennessee lawmakers expelled earlier this year for their role in a protest inside of the tennessee capitol. kumasi: in the north bay, there's a new effort to relocate voters illegally anchored in marin county, 50 people living on these boats. a maritime law prevents boats from anchoring in the bay longer than 70 two hours however, some people lived illegally on these boats for decades. marin county started a new effort to approve anchor outs from environmentally sensitive waters into secure housing on land. the county is offering a one to three year temporary housing voucher and other incentives. >> this program

they are destroying a beautiful community, and for what? three years of housing that just does not provide certainty to anybody. kumasi: officials say so far four people have accepted the housing assistance. you can add pirates to oakland's list of crime issues. boat owners at jaclyn square telling the chronicle thieves are arriving in small watercraft's and using bolt cutters to break into boats. they stole engines, tools, and life rafts and several sailboats have also been stolen. boat owners blame nearby homeless encampment. the oakland city council in march passed an ordinance that allows people to seize boats anchored illegally at city harbors. reggie: the most expensive commute in the country is right in the bay area. it is no surprise at his expense of to live here but it is also costly just to work here. san francisco is number one on the new list of costless commutes using u.s. census survey data. it finds most people in city travel an average of one hour

and spent almost $50 a day. number two is fremont, sunnyvale makes the list at eight. d.c., new jersey, new york city round out the top five. kumasi: developing news, hurricane idalia is expected to grow into category three storm by the time it makes landfall. people on the florida gulf coast are bracing with impact with a number of menu torry -- mandatory evacuations in place. jobina: idalia grew overnight from a tropical storm into a hurricane. damaging winds are forecast for florida's gulf coast in the next two days and experts are saying this major storm could shift at any point and change course at last check. hurricane idalia is forecast to make landfall tomorrow morning just north of tampa. residents along the coast are facing mandatory evacuations, college students in st. petersburg have been told to evacuate and prepare for six to nine inches of rain in the area surrounding their dorm rooms.
