tuesday. because it was before school hours only 30 students were inside. other families arrive frrg dropoff were turned away. >> to pull up this morning, have my son rush back to the car as if, you know, he was a target, it just -- it just -- it just made everything more magnified. >> parent tamila jackson said the threat started to roll in after the diversity and inclusion committee hosted a get together for black, brown and aapi social over the weekend. >> the social isn't to exclude any students at all. it's to bring the small minority of students that are of color together. reporter: one parent on the committee who did not want her name used ex-flaind much of the play date. >> it was meant to bridge communities between black and brown families. share resources. and also to make the kids feel comfortable. seeing other kids and playing with other kids that look like them in a predominantly white

especially out here in the east bay tomorrow. it's almost like a heat dome capping in some pollution here. here's what you can expect. spare the air alerts are fairly frequent in the course of bay area summers but the one forecast for tomorrow is worth paying attention to. >> we're seeing severe air pollution forecasts for tomorrow. it's a combination of high inland temperatures and a high pressure over the bay area. combined with wildfire smoke from the north. it's going to cause ozone to build up. reporter: that means ground level concentrations of ozone are expected to be in the unhealthy range especially for seniors and young children with hazy skies dominating in the east bay. the bay area is warned against exercising outdoor. polluted air is shortening life

man stowr render. >> officers made consistent attempts to de-escalate the situation and try engage the individual to try and broker a peaceful resolution. i don't have the exact details of what the suspect did that precipitated the shooting. but at some point during the interaction officers felt it was necessary to use deadly force. dan: for now police will only say more than one officer opened fire. they're not releasing the man's age, name or condition. ama: retail theft is a multibillion dollar problem nationwide and it's hitting one community in the bay area particularly hard. today a san mateo county supervisor says he's not taking it anymore. suzanne joins us live with what he plans todo. reporter: when it comes to cracking down on shoplifting, supervisor david cannabis said he's open to all solutions. he wants to create a regional task force.

we've seen the dramatic video. bold, brazen, brash shoplifters. snatching hundreds, thousands of dollars of items in stores across the air a bay area. it's happening all over the country. losses are staggering. >> $30 billion. in retail theft nationally is absolutely egregious. reporter: it's really getting to be a problem in san mateo county. bay area shoplifting numbers increased from 2021 to 2022 but sit around the prepandemic average in. san mateo county, the 2022 shoplifting numbers spiked significantly. 60% higher than the prepandemic average in. june at this lego store, hillsdale shopping cent eric thieves made off with more than $3,500 worth of toys. two days ago that the sephora store in the same mall, they store $4,500 worth of perfume. while arrest were made in both cateses, the supervisor says we

need a call to action. what we're doing right now is not working. prip at the next board of supervisors meeting he's calling for the creation of a regional task force to come up with solutions to the retail theft problem. >> this task force would be three group, sheriffs, it would be, since we have about 20 cities in san mateo county, the chiefs, and it would also be all the chambers of commerce. reporter: he hopes to eventually ex-neand task force. right now california has a c.h.p. organized retail crime task force that increases presence at shopping centers especially during holidays. that task force works with local law enforcement agencies to make arrests and heighten visibility. he said that's not enough. >> now it's reached the tipping point. reporter: shoppers say something needs to be done to curb shoplifting crime. >> i don't think more of the police presence is the answer. i think honestly i would love to see a study conducted on where

set tuesday for one of beyonce's biggest world tours yet. the renaissance tour makes its stop in santa clara wednesday. starting at:00 on wednesday amp the pki lots and box office open. v.i.p. gates open at 4:30, the show starts at 8:00 p.m. no opening act and queen b is known to be pungtule so get there on time. >> if it's too good to be true chances are it probably is. reporter: though the show is sold out, tickets can be found but buy with extreme caution and make an effort to avoid buying them on social media. >> rather than turning to social media, which can offer a good deal but can be fraud as well, look for ticketmaster or stubhub. reporter: levi's recommends buying a prepaid parking pass and will have dropoff zones. one main alternative is v.t.a. that provides service throughout the south bay and can be accessed by bart and call train.

of florida, expected to make landfall there the continuation of the strengthening is expected. it is a category 2 storm right now with 105-mile-per-hour winds. expected to become a cat 3 by 11:00 a.m. tomorrow morning as it approaches the gulf coast of florida. it will still maintain hurricane status as a one, crossing over the southeast and making its away across the atlantic. storm surge up to 15 feet. rainfall up to a foot. damaging winds. these are some of the biggest threats along with tornadoes. the accuweather seven-day forecast, hazy and warm to hot for your wednesday. heat easing thursday. it'll be a big drop in temperatures friday. windy, possibility of some showers. we're only in the 7 #-s -- 70's going into sampled below average and still a lingering chance of showers. we'll turn it around for the second half of the holiday weekend.
