they partnered jose to welcome fans with the free photos shoot. even visit fund by posting a video on social media. the city of santa clara honored beyonce with a silver key to the city and made her honorary mayor. her longtime publicist accepted the proclamation on her behalf. >> i have worked with beyonce for close to 27 years and it gives me great joy to see her still being recognized for her contribution to the arts and to society at large. >> i think it is specialty knowledges -- i think it special she acknowledges as many countries and cities as she can and the fact that she is coming to my own is a big thing for me. gloria: fans are very excited that she will be performing tonight.

before you had to see beyonce tonight and then you can join abc 7 news at 5:30 and 7:00 tonight for livestreaming coverage. we have abc 7 cruise as fans arrive for the concert and we will be tracking the weather and traffic. everything is on the abc 7 news livestream. reggie: the san francisco unified school district is facing a severe financial crisis. parents are worried school closures could be part of the plan to balance the budget. the district held a special meeting to discuss the problem. the board says the district lost 4000 students since 2012 and expect you -- expects to lose another 4600 in the next nine years. the plan is to form an advisory to address those issues. parents we talked to says it sounds like a recipe to close schools. >> we do not need to close any schools. what the speaker has been talking about is managerial incompetence. reggie: there are no current

plans of closing any schools. the school board will not vote on any plan until april of next year. hurricane idalia in florida around an hour ago. you can see the flooding in treasure island west of st. petersburg. it briefly became a category 4 before being downgraded to a category 3. we will take a live look at part of florida's gulf coast. there are more than 200,000 homes and businesses without power according to power outages u.s.. ginger zee was in treasure island a few hours ago just before the storm made landfall. ginger: as far south as us we are seeing major coastal flooding. this is a big intersection. if you ever been to these islands, gulf boulevard is a big one. will keeps in the push of water and impact from here through the

kumasi: we are sharing a new proposal that president biden says will lower the cost of some prescription drugs. jobina is that the live desk with more. it is about millions of americans who will start to see more affordable prescription medication thanks to new efforts from the government. jobina: the white house announced 10 prescription drugs will be up for medicare price negotiations. the new inflation reduction act is the main reason medicare price drops could happen for the first time ever. the biden administration's goal is to make medication more cost-efficient. >> or america prescription medication. nobody should face a choice between buying medications and putting food on the table. jobina: the reduction would

benefit more than 9 million seniors on medicare. agreed-upon new prices will be announced next fall and go into effect in 2026. kumasi: the former mayor francisco and current governor of california gavin newsom is taking issue with the court ruling that bands the city from clearing homeless encampments. he praised elon musk, who called for a boycott of the law firm representing a homeless nonprofit. he also indicated how much he says the state has spent to address homelessness and called for the court to be held accountable. all of this is stemming from a lawsuit claiming san francisco violated the rights of unhoused individuals. the city asked the appeals court to toss it out saying many people are refusing the help that is being offered. reggie: protesters gathered outside the google cloud

conference in san francisco taking issue with the company's ties to the israeli government. it is part of the campaign claiming google provides services for the country's military. the organizers are current and former google employees and they say the project signed by google and israel provides cloud services for their defense systems. the group claims israel is using the technology against palestinians. >> we have more reasons than ever to recommit ourselves to organizing to ensure that tech companies like google based right here in the bay and in the united states cannot continue profiting off of and israeli apartheid. reggie: google did not respond to request for comment. kumasi: a massive hacking network that defrauded people out of hundreds of millions of dollars has been taken down by u.s. and european agencies. the justice department

more than $9 million in cryptocurrency from the group quackbot. >> we are saving consumers a victims tens of millions of dollars of losses throughout the world. kumasi: authorities say quac kbot was used by russian ransomware agencies. the bust comes a few weeks after the city of oakland wrapped up its formal review of ransomware attack earlier this year. the city says the group dumped more than 600 gigabytes of sensitive information on the dark web, including people's home addresses and social security numbers. the town secured $10 million in funding to strengthen its information systems. reggie: a big surprise when west point military academy opened a 200-year-old time capsule. officials wore a face mask and goggles and opened the lead box and it was empty. they said moisture may have

forecast. it will be a warm one. drew: upper 80's and lower 90's in the south bank. we have concerns when it comes to the warm weather. we have a red flag warning in effect for parts of sonoma and napa county along with lake county because there will be a brief period of dry northerly winds. it will elevate fire concerns. thankfully it is a short-lived event. this is the first red flag warning since 2021. outside it is smoky. we have a spare the air date in effect. the smoke is from wildfires in oregon. that smoke has been transferred to northern california. today is the hottest day of the week. 80's and 90's away from the coast. a closer look at that air quality in a few minutes. reggie: we are tracking hurricane idalia as it makes

landfall in florida. the hurricane downgraded to a category 2 storm. jobina is at the live desk. jobina: idalia hit the coast a a category three storm. it was just downgraded to a category two storm. officials are warning of storm surge up to 16 feet could hit parts of the region. people in 30 counts -- in 30 counties were placed under evacuation orders. the weather service issued a tornado warning. there are more than 200,000 homes and businesses across the state without power. according to power outages u.s. governor ron desantis experienced a power outage himself as he spoke earlier today about the dangers of hurricane idalia. >> it will be a legitimate surge. it will be very dangerous. there we go with our power here. we are back.

jobina: about 55 hundred national guardsmen are on standby ready to respond. fema is calling for more disaster response and funding from congress. president biden says he has been in constant contact with state officials and he will receive a briefing. kumasi: san mateo c supervisor david canada is taking action to crack down on retail theft. data shows shoplifting in san mateo county spiked significantly in 2022. incidents nearly doubled compared with a decade ago and the current total is 60% higher than the pre-pandemic average. >> people are living in fear, people are scared. employers are running away. my hope is to make sure we take serious action and we take action to make sure this does not happen in san mateo county.

kumasi: the supervisor is planning to propose new legislation at the board of supervisors meeting october 3. he says a resolution will call for the sheriff and police chiefs to partner with the chamber of commerce to create a task force aimed at coming up with real solutions. drew: discerns as covid -- reggie: concerns as covid-19 infections are on the rise. local hospitals are seeing people affected by covid with symptoms like a cough and sore throat and congestion and as of august 19 371 people were reportedly hospitalized in all nine bay area counties plus santa cruz. in marin county, their numbers have double. >> at the end of june we started to see an increase in concentration. for the past two weeks we are starting to see more people into law hospital. we are seeing a doubling of people in the hospital with covid-19. reggie: a

new covid booster shot is not ready yet. the center for disease control will meet to discuss when the next booster will become available. kumasi: the santa clara county board of supervisors has signed a resolution supporting gender affirming care to show support for the lgbt plus community. it is a commitment to back health care for people who are transgender or gender diverse. according to the aclu they are nearly 500 laws across the country targeting the lgbtq+ community. reggie: new details about a shooting in san francisco's tenderloin district. four separate agencies are investigating after officers shot a man and sent him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. this happened monday night on jones street. police say officers responded to a man armed with a large knife who was threatening people. they say officers tried for 20 minutes to get the man to surrender. >> the officers made consistent

attempts to de-escalate the situation and engage the individual to appropriate peaceful resolution. i do not have the details on what the suspect did that precipitated the shooting, but at some point during their action officer thought it was necessary to use deadly force. kumasi: -- reggie: police only say more than one officer open fire. they are not releasing the man's name or condition. kumasi: new dna evidence in a cold case has prosecutors hoping for a new trial. it would be the third time john kevin woodward stood trial for the crime that happened in mountain view in 1992. a santa clara county judge dismissed the case because of double jeopardy. the first two times ended in mistrial. the judges issuing an order for woodward to stay under house arrest and at this point it is up to an appeals court to decide whether new evidence linking woodward to a piece of rope used to kill will learned -- will

lead to a third trial. >> if this happens to our cold case, these legal technicalities about double jeopardy, it could happen to any cold case that has previous trials with hung juries. kumasi: woodward was originally charged in 1996 and had been living in the netherlands before being arrested last year. reggie: this year's dream force conference could be the last one held in san francisco if the convention is affected by the city's homelessness and drug use challenges. that is coming directly from the ceo of salesforce, which is based here in san francisco. benioff says he has received complaints from attendees about the city's homeless problem. the convention returns on september 12 and will go until the 14th. kumasi: a nonprofit in san francisco is trying to lift up the midmarket neighborhood.

the plan would allow artist and entrepreneurs to fill vacant storefronts. the midmarket business association also plans on hosting street festivals, live music, and commission public art. it hopes to raise $50 million over two years of public and private funding. market street arts launches this fall. reggie: tonight beyonce is taking over levi's stadium. it is her only stop in the bay area on her renaissance tour and thousands are getting ready for this big night. gloria "renaissance" is live and now i see what you're talking about. i had a feeling it was going to be a hat. gloria: i had to put on this silver hat. i keep adding more and more silver throughout the morning. you have to for beyonce. if you're planning on coming out , maybe once in beyonce merchandise.
